Snorter here. Long-time poster since the days of Dungeon magazine, and mostly active on the tabletop side of the site.
I haven't picked a guild, or decided on what character to play, and I find that difficult, when I've yet to see the character builder, and what options are even possible.
I do realise I need to get some research done before the Early Enrolment goes live, so I need to check out those organisations listed above.
I'm looking for in-game action that differs from the traditional endless loot and pillage of existing MMOs, taking advantage of the settlement building options that will be new to PFO.
Anyone want to sell me on the benefits of their guild?
There's a LOT of unfamiliar faces here, so I guess GW achieved their goal of drawing in a lot of people from outside the traditional table-top community?

I'd say that's a pretty safe guess. I myself, while interested in it, have never been involved in tabletop gaming (Except for some Warhammer waaaay back in the day). My background is MMO's, mainly the PvP aspect.
What drew me to PFO is that the current trend of Themepark MMO's is incredibly dull. A place where we can build our own world and that our interactions within it, PvP or otherwise, have real meaning is just a dream come true. Plus the lore is pretty cool and all.

I had figured this was a measure of players actually on the Paizo forums or I might have said something in the big group message we sent out recently. I had just been figuring players who were truly active on the forums could find their own way here.
I just asked a couple people who I'd seen posts from recently, but who hadn't posted here yet (Sennajin was one). I didn't expect it to spread so much from there, but Sennajin/Rawn is the leader of Pax Gaming as a whole. A lot of folks just scan for blog announcements and updates to specific threads, but that's still visiting the forum and following the development of PFO, even if they aren't getting involved in arguments.
Anyway, I expect that other groups with their own forums or other means of communication will probably ask members to post here. I'll ask that no one do anything as dishonest as creating fakes (regardless of how dis/honest one's planned character may be, this thread is obviously OOC), but all I can do is hope they'll respect that.
Maybe calling people to make their first post will result in some of them sticking around, which should be good for the PFO community in general. I made this thread for the reasons I stated in the opening post, but I'm not opposed to it drawing in more activity or reviving voices that were fired up at the beginning of the year but have since gone dormant. I'd rather it not be hijacked as a thread to rehash debates or individual group recruitment, but if it makes the overall PFO community more active, I'd be happy with that.

Hi again, Snorter, I recognize you. ;)
Nihimon's compiled a list here that may be useful summary. It's a mix of what you are able to anticipate and with how much accuracy (much more at EE) for what your main char will be doing and which groups align with that and other practicalities, of course. At least those are my own conclusions.

Mm, well if PFO or mmorpgs in general don't work I'll probably take move more towards TT and PnP with a game club I used to frequent. It's a good way to socialize and spend an evening per week and the games and the players are all very good standards.
That said, I really hope to see the potential of sandbox mmorpgs as long-term games that can be enjoyed for a long time on a huge scale.

It's great to see so many "lurkers" popping by to say hi. :)

Andius,
Pax Gaming is all about integrity. I hope you are not referring to us. I passed by this post many a time and never thought to chime in. One person on our forums mentioned this thread and here we are.

The point is, you passed by the thread... meaning you were lurking on the forums... which was Keovar's intent. Get those lurking to post, make their affiliations (if any) known, and speak their mind about stuff.

You can understand why some are 'suspicious' of so many Pax members chiming in on this thread all of a sudden....
Not really. We made it clear on our forums we wanted only those that were interested and had read or interacted on the forums to post here.
If we had not, we could have had a lot more to post. A simple check on our forums would show anyone that we have above 1k members across divisions. Should not be too hard to believe a small fraction of those are interested but do not interact on the forums.

Sorry I am a little puzzled by this statement. What is their to be suspicious about? This thread is about encouraging people to post who normally just lurk and do not wish to get into the to and fro of forum debate.
The Pax people that have posted here is less than our current Pax roll call of those interested. It is less than half the number of Pax members actively following PfO on our forums. How do we know they are actively following PfO? Simple because when we have a teamspeak meeting about PfO they turn up for it and participate. Last one I believe we had somewhere in the vicinity of 75 attending.
It does not surprise me in the least that an nudge to post on our PfO board would spur people to come out of the woodwork and delurk on these boards. Indeed I hope some of them will continue to post rather than lurking.
So once again why do you see this as something to be suspicious of?
Ezekial Krows Goblin Squad Member |
Pax is a rather large organization; when a public post is made on our forums to our membership, it would make sense that a portion of that large organization would see the post, read and understand the context, and act in recognition of that post.
That is what happened here; it looks suspicious simply because we are many in number. Charlie George, ZenPagan and Areks are being honest and true when they state that we asked only those who meet Keovar's original requirements should post, and no one was forced to come here and post.
I think we can all agree that the number of lurkers who view these boards who never actually post anything far outweigh those of us who do.
To put it in context, I'm the High Thane of Pax Gaming, and I just now posted my own initial post in this thread; this isn't some secret push by Pax, merely a few of us looking to rectify oversight on this community initiative.
And I think we can all agree that anything that increases (constructive) activity within our PfO community is a win-win for us all.

I don't think there's anything "suspicious" or untoward about it at all.
Pax is making it clear that they're the Mega Guild, they've got hundreds (thousand+?) members, and will probably have hundreds of members join Early Enrollment. For the folks who want to be part of a Mega Guild, that's a good thing for them to know.
We all take the opportunities we can to show what our priorities are.

Thanks. I'll use that, and the other suggestions, to pick my future allies, rather than clog up this lurker rallying thread.

Hey, Qallz. You're the "avid PvPer" from the community questions thread, right? Welcome! You're in very good company around here. (Personally, I squeak in the face of danger, but that's just me.)
I was a lurker about six months ago before making my first few posts. We're a rowdy bunch but generally good-hearted.

No, I'm not an "avid PvPer", I'm an avid PvPer. :D But yes, that was me. Yea, I like the people around here, they seem nice. I guess the forum is small enough that people will notice a few random posts, heh.
Nice meeting you talk to you soon, and hopefully kill you on the field of battle.
