Björn will look at Areks, "I ain't seen them in a bit, might have taken on one of them bounties or something."

Björn grunts as a boot hits his jugular. With bloodshot eyes, he looks around the room from the vantage point of the floor. Seeing Kaðlin across the room, Björn grabs ahold of the table to stumble up. Seeing a drink on the table, and thinking it is more ale, he grabs the mug and downs it in one shot. Then the most peculiar expression goes over his face, "I don' know what dat was, but it wasn't ale." He quickly looks around and sees the bowl of water, grabbing it he takes a drink and swishes his mouth out trying to get the cloying taste out of his mouth. Spitting the mixture of water and horse manure back into bowl, Björn checks to see if all of his equipment is still with him. Seeing that it is, and noticing that Torag has stopped using his head as an anvil, he proceeds over to where Kaðlin is talking.

He will reach down and grab her shoulder, "What foul concoction did ye leave on dat table? It was vile, by Erastil!"

What is that you said? A Pax Gaming Annual Meeting? What is that?

Well you see, every year the leadership of Pax Gaming as a whole comes together to give a "State of the Community" address. We talk about the major accomplishments of the community, of the individual divisions, what has changed, etc.

This year we are doing something different. This year we are opening it up to the public and letting every one who wants to sit in do so! So we here at Pax Aeternum, and Pax Gaming as a whole, invite everyone of you, here at the Paizo community, to come join us at our Annual Meeting! It will be a great way to see how we as a community work and also it will provide every one an opportunity to see everything Pax Gaming is involved with.

It will be held on July the 13th, at 6 EDT, 5CDT. Our Teamspeak information can be found here: http://www.paxgaming.com/index.php?threads/teamspeak-3-information.1/

Once you have logged on, if the meeting is not in the Porch, feel free to message Krow, Björn, Kardiak, or Khas, to get you moved over to the proper channel.

I hope to see you all there! Have a Happy 4th of July Weekend, for you Americans! Have a Happy Weekend all the same to everyone else!

The Kingdom of Aeternum: Pax in Pathfinder Online
When it was announced that there was a Kickstarter for Pathfinder Online back in May 2012, it was not long before our community team announced it on our forums. Many of our members had been playing (and still play) pen and paper games under the Pathfinder ruleset. As our membership began reading Goblinwork's Kickstarter page, it began generating excitement from our sandbox gamers as well. From May to June 2012 the thread saw much activity as we donated, updated our thread, and talked about the vision for this game. It was amazing to watch the the project double, triple, and eventually hit six times its projected goal.

At the end of June 2012, Pax introduced ourselves to the forum community. While we are always looking for community members, we had no division for this game at that time. Instead we voiced our interest in the game, began meeting other "guilds" (for lack of a better term), and began interacting. During this time we were also building the foundation for a true presence in PfO. That in effect is the reason for a new thread, because that foundation is set.

In the Kickstarter, we had 3 guild groups just under Pax Gaming pledged. Our members looked and saw the rough diamond in the mud, and decided that it was going to be a place for Pax for a long time. We have laid down the foundation for a long lasting and powerful group, under the Pax banner.

So What are Pax's Goals?

Simply stated they are extensive. Many of our membership have been looking for a long time for an in depth sandbox of this nature. With some of the intricate workings of Eve with the "character avatar" and exploration elements of Star Wars Galaxies. We are hitting the ground in full sprint for this title. Pax will not be satisfied until we are a strong and recognizable force in the community. To be more specific we plan to establish:

A number of Chartered Companies, separated by economic, military, and exploratory interests
A beginning settlement when the mechanics allow, called Callambea.
The Kingdom of Aeternum to provide the highest level of content, resources, and defense.
A positive, on going influence on the community through seasonal festivities, events, and story development.

Our Chartered Companies
When the information about political systems showed up in developer blogs, many people were confused and disappointed that the traditional guild system they were familiar with would not be in Pathfinder Online. In its place were Chartered Companies, or social structures not tied to land holdings that averaged the size of an adventure party to a maximum of twenty or so members. Instead of disappointment, Pax Gaming was intrigued.

When Pax Imperius operated in SWG, they had a popular motto of "Many Guilds in One". This habit of creating smaller divisions inside of a larger body is a tradition many of our guilds still employ today. The advent of many smaller organizations working together just makes what we have employed in the past more literal.

Pax Aeternum will be a company filled with our political, military, and economic leadership. This organization will lead our efforts large and small. Our other companies will fall under Pax Aeternum, but to keep from overusing the Pax brand will have their own unique names. These are posted above, but to reiterate:
Aeternum Trade Alliance: A company for those interested in the purely economic and trade related vocations.
The Watch: Our scouts and watchers
Corpus Aeternum: Our formal military
Council of Lords: A company for our landowners and city officials, in charge of the day-to-day of our settlements
Bloodwolf Clan: A Clan of Bounty Hunters
Steel Legion: Our Mercenaries, working for guard duty for caravans, to helping protect mining operations.
Aeternum Consortium: The Consortium is our company dedicated to the promotion of lore, celebrations, and events within our kingdom. It is both a home for those that love roleplay as well as for those that enjoy planning events that bring hundreds of people together.

Putting Down Roots
When the game allows, our unified chartered companies will band together and button down. This effort will concentrate on our first settlement, Callambea. Callambea is a tribute to a pen and paper Pathfinder game that was in a home brewed continent brought to life by one of our members. This will be where our efforts from our chartered companies will come together inside of game mechanics. Our companies will become apart of the building and citizenry of this small town. While I am sure this will be a monumental moment, in the overall scope of things this is just a stepping stone.

Growing and Expanding
One of the last stairs in this process is of course a kingdom. The Kingdom of Aeternum, when the game allows, will be our expansion into the River Kingdoms. In addition to the highest dungeon content that PfO has stated this will provide, it will also provide us yet another station on which to prosper, protect, and interact in.

Festivals, Story, and Community (Oh My!)
While there is no single game element that we plan to enforce, roleplay has always been the cornerstone of all of our gaming divisions. When our Dak Thunderkeg and the leadership of Pax Gaming finalized preparations for a Pathfinder presence, the the first officer to join the team was for roleplay and story, Kard Warstein. Since then the story has evolved as the officer positions expanded, working on our origin story, possible codes of honor/chivalry, festivals, honorary titles, pre-launch events, and much more. When it comes to making our mark in this game, this is just as important as kingdoms, settlements, and companies. When our events are recognizable server wide, and when our titles are as common as ones the game itself provides, a major goal will be reached.

How Will You Accomplish All This?
If you have read this far, you are probably wondering how we are going to accomplish these goals. There is no one true answer. The strength of our community, our experiences, and our numbers are some factors. Our current and past experience in Eve and other sandbox games is educational on many different levels. As of this post we have over sixty current Pax members interested in this game, and that in house number will do nothing but grow as this game develops. Our ability to supply initial numbers has helped us build a foundation for many games in the past.

The largest factor is the recruitment of quality, like minded people. Our community and this division are not stagnant. Our success is anchored in growth, and we are always excited to meet new recruits. If you have liked what you have read so far, I urge you to read on. Our next post is about the Pax Gaming Community and will have all our recruitment information.

This game is a new adventure , and we are looking forward to meeting more to make the journey with us.

What is the Pax Gaming Community?
Pax Gaming is a collection of community minded members committed to enjoying games of all sorts together. The community has been around since 2001, and has been experiencing games together ever since. We are a community first, and a game aspect later. This means that we fully support all playstyles including PVE, PVP, and RP. Our interests are not focused on a single game, but includes many MMO's as well as tabletop, shooters, and more. Who a recruit is as a person weighs more heavily than any other consideration. We are a group of friends, family, and like minded geeks. Many of our members have met up in the world, and at conventions you can expect to see a table or two with Paxians. While our numbers steadily grow over the years, the quality of our family remains our single largest benefit.

Pax hosts our own server for teamspeak as well as our forums. We have an organized charter that outlines a very simple yet definitive set of rules to maintain the level of community we wish to provide. While we strongly encourage participation in roleplay, no single element of a game is enforced. Our concern is for our members to enjoy gaming together. That being said every division of Pax Gaming has origin stories, roleplay officers, and event planners. We also promote and support officers in charge of pve and pvp content as well.

In the end our name best describes who and what we are. Pax is a community, above everything else. It is a common phrase for us to state that we recruit the player, not the "toon".

Why join Pax Gaming?

Community
Many Pax Gaming members call Pax their second family. We cherish the members we have developed over the years and our cohesion quickly becomes apparent whenever we begin approaching content. Our drive is cemented in an environment where members can explore progression, role-play, and player versus player gaming competitively. Time and time again the Gaming Community has been able to achieve these goals while maintaining a community first mindset. A game is played to have fun, and this family provides opportunities for varying playstyles to flourish.

Longevity
Pax Gaming has been around since 2001. Since that date we have had successful guilds in many MMO's, Pax Gaming has never disbanded, and never has been without at least one MMO our members have been playing. We will stay in an MMO as long as it's members are there, we will not shut down a division just to move to another MMO. If you are looking for a guild that isn't just a rest stop to another goal, this is the home for you. If you like mature members that are socially active outside of raid nights, this is your guild. If you think achieving content progression does not require yelling and degradation, look no further.

This will NOT be a guild that folds. Our SWG Chapter of Pax Imperius stayed active and going strong since the servers first opened. We remained active through the game's turbulent history. Pax remained there until the game itself was shut down. For over a decade, Pax has remained strong and active.

Opportunities
Pax has always looked at each members contributions to their division and community fairly, irregardless of any veteran status. We have opportunities to move up in rank, even by members fresh out of recruitment, as long as they show the dedication and drive to earn such a post.

Family
Pax Gaming always recruits the individual. We're always looking for those who will fit well within our family. This means we are never looking for your chosen playstyle, "level", or gear. We are interested in growing our collection of high quality members. We are here to recruit you, not your "toon".
Above all Pax is a family and you will form friendships within our guild. Many of us have become RL friends, traveling to meet up with each other when we can and one of our members even hosts a New Years Eve party where all Pax members are invited.

All Play Styles
We support all play styles. Role-Play, Raiding, PVP, Crafting, you name it, all of our divisions support it. We have been doing it since the launch of Star Wars Galaxies we know what works and doesn't when it comes to all encompassing

Experience
Our members have years of experience in RP, PvP and PvE in a variety of games. Many of our members are held in respect on their servers. Pax members are always willing to give advice and a hand if you need it.

More than a Single Game
Pax Gaming is over a decade strong with hundreds of members spread through different gaming divisions:

Pax Imperius : Sith Faction - Star Wars: The Old Republic
Pax Dominus : Republic Faction - Star Wars: The Old Republic
Pax Infinitus : Star Trek Online
Pax Emunio : Eve Online
Pax Illuminatus : Rift
Pax Thalion : Lord of the Rings Online
Pax Agnitio : The Secret World
Pax Invictus: World of Warcraft: Alliance
Pax Draconis: Neverwinter Online
Dead Prezidents : A casual first person shooter clan for Pax Gaming members
Pen and Paper : Pax runs games on our Teamspeak server and on virtual tables in Shadowrun, Pathfinder, Dnd, Dark Heresy, and hybrid or home made rulesets. There has also been a few Play-By-Post games get started. New games are created and led all the time, with varying times and days as well as systems.

What is this Charter You Speak Of?
Our Charter is a ‘living document’ that out lines our guild structure, Chain of Command, Rules of Engagement, Codes of Conduct and general guild rules. You may view our charter here.

To supplement and support our work in the Pathfinder Online community and game, a Divisional Charter for the Kingdom of Aeternum have been created. Much like the Pax Gaming Charter, this document outlines the Kingdom of Aeternum's operating procedure and rules, but on a scale specific to Pathfinder Online. You can view it HERE on our wiki.

How do I join?

We are currently taking applications for Pathfinder Online. Once a Pax Member has been accepted, they are free to join any game we are playing without further applications.

First you will need to go www.paxgaming.com to register with the Pax Community.

Our application process is a two week application period, during this two week period you will interact with Pax Gaming members and make sure you are a good fit for our guild. This two week period is also here to help you determine if our guild is a good fit for you.

Full instructions on joining Pax Gaming can be located here

Thank you all. I have been requested to share my recruitment experience here and have struggled a bit on how best to accomplish. I have decided that a bit of history with respect to previous guilds for I have been associated will best illustrate why i chose to apply to Pax and what i got of the trial period.

Online gaming began for me a couple months after everquest released with a bunch of RL friends forming the guild Alliance of the Griffin. This name had represented our group for some years previous so was the logical choice. Initially the guild was effective and fun, but over time additional people were added and in the end, like so many guilds hence, it devolved into drama / decrees and an overall mess. Some left. Some ignored it. Some railed futilely against the injustice of it all.

Looking back, I see now that most of the issues were introduced by recent additions; friends of friends, group acquaintances and etc, and had they guild not wanted to expand (big is better you know.../sigh) and been more careful with whom they invited in, things may have gone far differently.

From that point on, i was very careful about guilds I joined, aiming for smaller guilds with an age range skewed to the higher end. I find older people are more tired of drama / conflict and more apt to discuss issues instead of ranting. I also kept some characters in game unguilded so that if the guild hit a rough patch or imploded I could log on anonymously and avoid the tension.

Reading that last paragraph, i see how it could be interpreted as selfish in some ways, avoiding an issue rather than facing it and trying to help. And I have no good argument against that claim. However, I dont logon to lotro, eve, eq, eq2, wow, and other over they years to experience the same level of frustration and angst that i can get for free at work...where at least my anxiety attacks are compensated twice a month via direct deposit.

And that is why I am so hopeful that Pax Aeternum, well Pax in general, will be a very...

Wow! Thank you Val on giving that testimonial! I am very glad that Pax Gaming was able to provide you with a place where you are almost drama free. I look forward to working with you in the future to better the Kingdom!

Okay, I have been watching this train wreck of a thread from the beginning. So I am not a "random person" wandering in, "read a fragment of what is said and then offer their opinions without understanding the full situation."

To start off I want to say to Bluddwolf, I am seriously impressed so far with what you have said and think you will do wonders for yourself and your company.

One thing I think everyone needs to realize is truly what this "Treaty" is. It is fear, plain and simple. People are afraid that some "evil" organisation is going to pop up and ruin everything and it will just be a nightmare. So what is their reaction? They are going to create a treaty that turns them into what they most despise, griefers. Once/if these griefers show up, they are going to go up to them and say, "You shall not play here!" and start griefing them.

Taking from Ryan Dancy's blog post, griefing is thus explained, "Loosely defined, griefing means taking actions within the game that are designed to harass another player to elicit bad feelings without any other reasonable purpose."

So these members of this Treaty are going to go out and try to harass these players so that they leave. It is essentially the same thing, it is only wrapped up in a prettier packaging with a nice title to it. Am I the only one who sees this?

Now then, to top it off I will have to agree with Tiran Kenja. You are all really just playing into their hands, I mean, if you want them to leave you alone, IGNORE THEM! Nobody likes being ignored, and they most certainly do not like it if the person they are trying to get a rise out of it, does not respond. It confuses them, they don't understand why you didn't put a $5k bounty on their head for killing your entire party, or killing your sheep for no reason.

Welcome to dealing with Jerks 101, I hoped you liked the seminar!

and the trials begin....

I chose Pax Aeternum for several reasons. First, i wanted to be part of a larger community so read the forums of the 4 largest chartered companies trying to assess their gaming style and expectations. TEO was a little to segregated, especially splitting the harvesting / from the crafting. TSV seemed pretty similar to Pax but lacked the historical stability / longevity. As I read the forums I got that "gut" feeling this was the best choice, especially since there is going to be a long time before PFO is up and running which i will likely fill with one or more other games.

I hope that the family aspect of Pax becomes something special to me and it grows to be an integral part of my life, a source of fellowship and comradery.

This is an awesome post! Definitely one of my favorites!

You mean a "Leader" picks a target?

Whatever you want to call him. Generally it's the tank. I guess I'd rather not see a feat required to do something that most games already have to make combat more user friendly.

/assist
Target of target

Most games have something like this as a UI option. Not a skill.

Well in a large battle situation, there is not going to be a base game mechanic that you have to move to X square to avoid Y effect. It will be much more fluid and realistic. So having a commander that has trained in the skills and can give his "squads" a bonus would make sense. Because he has been trained and is knowledgeable in war and tactics.

So commander X has trained skill A, which allows, if your squads are in position L, a boost to W/E.

This would be verse say newbie guy who just gets a group of people together that attack everyone. He and his soldiers would not get any bonuses to anything, because the commander is untrained.

Am I making sense?

My thought is that you can have two Lawful Good settlements/kingdoms at war with each other over resources and I do not see that as being a bad thing. They would both be doing what is good and right by their Settlement/Kingdoms, so why should their alignment suffer?

Goblin Squad Member

@Being when you create your character its alignment is set at True Neutral, it is your actions in game that cause it to change to whatever.

Also, THIS

Goblin Squad Member

Andius wrote:

If you only pay the cost once, then it is possible for a good aligned kingdom to drop a war declaration every time they have the spare points. Imagine a "good" organization that is large and filled with veterans doing this to all the other good organizations. That would allow them to act nearly identically to chaotic-evil factions while being "good" aligned.

With an upkeep the costs of wars are persistent. If you want to maintain three non-mutual aggressive wars with non-evil factions, you pay the cost of that every week.

The thing is, I am trying to find in a historical setting where this would have any precedence, and I am not finding it. In the Hundred Year's War I do not think either France or England changed from being a "Good" kingdoms to all of a sudden "Evil".

Now I can see where the actual cost of the war; i.e. Resources, money, and even maybe travel times for supply caravans. Would go up after X amount of time. That would make sense, I just do not see the alignment changing.

Because, and correct me if I am wrong, GW has said that the alignment of our Kingdoms/settlements would be a mean of what our character' alignments are. So in order for the kingdoms alignment to shift all our character's alignment would have to shift as well.
