Quite obviously is describing one group as reasonable and e other as unimaginative ...

Well, when you go in expecting to read that, you end up reading it regardless.

Now TOZ, haven't you learned yet that everything is always about him and everyone is always attacking him.

If it fits with the general theme of your other posts, why would I not assume it would share the same general thrust?

Grand Lodge

Something about assumptions.

Having your GI Joes play with your Star Wars guys worked really well, when it was just you.

When you were having friends over, not nearly so much.

"Flint shoots Darth Vader and blows his helmet off!"

"No he doesn't, Darth Vader blocks the laser bolt and electrocutes Flint!"

"No he doesn't! The T-Rex get's in the way! And all he did was tick off the T-Rex! RARRRR!"

"Aquaman summons up a giant squid to reach out of the puddle and jerk the T-Rex into it! So much for big and green!"

"Oh yeah? Well Optimus Prime blasts your stupid Squid!"

Stop trying to make Aquaman cool! Everyone knows he is suppose to be like this.

What about Aquaman?

Before we devolve further into the Aquaman Hater's Club, I'll try to drag this back closer to the original point with a question: are there any races (or I suppose other things like classes) that people deny from the start and if so, why?

I assume you mean, are there any 0HD races?

Everywhere : Driders (yep, not 0HD, but no spider connection with drow), Wayangs (something about the race just rubs me the wrong way, I think it's the artwork in the B3, they look too much like evil puppets).

Northern Continent : Core Races (unless everyone is shipwrecked), Eastern Races (Tengu, Vanara, Vishkanya, etc), Strix, Samsaran.

Southern Continent : Eastern Races, Samsaran.

Eastern Continent : Only allowing -> Humans, Elemental races, Eastern races, Orc (reskinned as Oniku, lesser Oni), Half-Orcs (reskinned as Oniku-kun, half-Oniku), Samsaran.

Kender.

Because, y'know, kender.

As a player of different races, I like delving into the race, pulling background and history from the race I find sometimes the race can become a character for me especially when I'm playing a character that is made to just fill a role for the party but haven't yet designed the character as who they are the race can help as a diving board, for various reasons but then I play races because I like them typically not because their stats work best with a character.

As a player there are races I am not all that into, like most of the plane-touched. As a GM, It would depend on story and if the character can make a compelling backstory for what he/she is playing.

As far as official Paizo 0HD races, I think I would only rule out Drow Noble and Svirneblin, since both races seem a bit overpowered for a playable race.

svirfneblin, because...seriously!?!

Shadow Lodge

If I can't pronounce it, probably ain't gonna allow it.

I was told by someone from Switzerland once that the f in fn was silent, and v was used as f. He could have been yanking my chain.

It's actually pronounced "svurf-n-turf".

Its Swiss for 'target acquired'!

Did someone say Smurf?

I don't like Smurfneblins.

Oh dear, i think i caused something

O smurf, wut?

Why don't we just call the things Underdark Gnomes because that us what they are?

we can call the Drow, Underdark Elves

and the Duergar, Underdark Dwarves

we don't need fancy names that most of us cannot pronounce or require massive debates on pronunciation.

Not to mention... it awakens the blue ones.

Swiss German is ...interesting.

the blue ones are such evil little fiends, worse than demons i tell you. they slaughter, they plunder, they pillage, and if you melt them, they become gold that is so filled with abyssal taint, that not even demons can withstand their greed, nor can the purest of angelic saints.

The Racial Heritage feat for humans is one more reason to hate humans and prefer more exotic races in my book. Yes, there's actually a min-max related feat that I hate with the burning rage of a thousand suns. It makes absolutely no sense that a half-orc cannot take an orc racial archetype, but a human with a feat can, especially when said feat's flavor is pretty much that said person has like a little bit of orc blood which is enough to qualify. How the hell does the guy who's HALF FREAKING ORC not qualify by that same logic?!

Wait, half-orcs don't qalify for orc racial archetypes? I thought they did because they do have the orc subtype.

Threeshades wrote:

Nope.

And no, nobody else understands the logic either. Oh, and it puts two different FAQs in conflict with each other.

Wasn't there a mention in the Core Rulebook that says the DM should use common sense when applicable?

NO.

Really? Maybe it was in the GM Guide then.

It doesn't exist, you hear!? GMs are not authorized to mess with or question the perfect wisdom of the rules as written!

Common sense?

Next thing you'll be demanding scientific explanations for dragons!

Or working metaphysics.

Common Sense? Migh as well consult Zordon. "It's Morphin Time."

Races I disallow? Anything but those in the core book. Works just fine.

Racial archetypes and feats are not effects.

except that's what the racial heritage feat does, and they already ruled archetypes are included. link

I thought that was the problem though. That, by default, racial archetypes and feats weren't and that the ruling on racial heritage specifically went against this saying they were?

Ah, the good old days of arguing what an "effect" is. Remember in 3.5 when people discussed if a monk could take improved natural weapon? Good times people, good times.

FAQ was updated today. Short answer is, Half-Orcs and Half-Elves can take racial archetypes now, officially.

Where are you seeing this? I click on either 'help/faq' icon and nothing shows up after August 2nd.

Edit: Nevermind. I'm used to seeing new things either being in red (this was not) or at the top of the list.
