Ultimate Campaign - best purchase in a long while

Silver Crusade

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Purely a praise post, but Ultimate Campaign is one of the best supplements I've invested in for quite a while. Has added a fresh dynamic to the gaming table.

Thank you! :)

My GM may or may not have slept with their copy on the bed. I gave them the UCamp poster from PaizoCon, and she freaked out in joy. She'd say the same thing as Touc!

I agree! Awesome add to the library!

Also agree! Nice to have majority of the traits in one book. Plus, rules for retraining!

I love this book.

Completely agree. This is spot on my favorite type of book. Fine work.

I'm gonna have to go through it again. It seems I'm the only person in Paizo-Land not gushing about it.. lol.

I'll join in. I liked the book so much I bought two. Excellent.

No complaints, except maybe the dance hall thing. :)

More praise for Ultimate Campaign! Now to find some good suggestions for Downtime.

Seems to be trying to add what D&D used to have form the TSR era into the game. I like the book but since I am actually playing TSR era D&D atm its not such a big deal.

I liked the book though.

Can anyone comment on whether it adds much if you play PFS only?

The PFS team tells me that when they update the Guide to Pathfinder Society in August, it'll say what parts of Ultimate Campaign will be used in PFS.

The background generator, imo, was worth the purchase price on its own. My only disappointment was the lack of 'legacy' weapons, which for some reason I was 100% sure were going to be in there.

I don't think legacy weapons were ever in the outline for Ultimate Campaign. We may have talked about it as a possibility for the book at a GenCon or PaizoCon panel, but I don't recall anything else (such as the book's description on the website) mentioning that.

Mythic Adventures, on the other hand, has rules for legendary weapons that improve as the wielder gains mythic power.

It's a really odd book, though I also like it a great deal.
It's a great many systems that don't REALLY work well or jibe with one another.

I really like the kingdom building and mass combat systems.
I'm not so hot on the downtime system (way too complex for what it does).
The haggling system is bunk.

The background generator is excellent, superb even, though I'm more likely to use it as a jumping off point than to generation a complete background. That said, it's also like nearly a third of the book which seems excessive.

My 2cp.

I do attend a lot of the GenCon panels so that could've been it. Or perhaps I saw it on the mythic stuff and transplanted it. However, based on the playtest material, mythic is not something I'll be using, so I may have to forego legendary weapons. Oh well.

Silver Crusade

Been playing since the days of Red and Blue Box D&D, refreshing to see something original and new whether I use it all or not. We've got an active society in our area and two of my table participate fairly often, interested to see what crosses over.

I'll add my voice to the love for this book. I certainly won't be using all of it at once, and I might not use all of it ever, but that's pretty much every gaming book I buy. This has a bunch of interesting additions, additions to kingdom building and mass combat that as a Kingmaker DM I wish I had at hand two years ago, and the background generator is a blast for NPCs or as an idea generator for PCs.

Great book!

I want to see this continue, and for that we need to see these items show up in future AP's and Modules so we can keep this growing, otherwise it makes it harder to adopt in game.

For example, I loved in the Elves book the various combinations of food/alchemy, yet nothing else ever shows up and that just kind of dries on the vine.

I want to see rewards that incorporate Influence and/or labor points. After sending you on several adventures the Scholar becomes a Companion, etc. Keep bringing in new items like this and giving out various rewards that further this type of material.
