Oh wow, just found out who is mapping out my side trek location - looking at their public shared work and their prior work in Wayfinder, I think you are in for a real treat!
Can't believe I was so lucky to get that artist for my map :)

Just finished going through the edits on my piece, and found a bunch more things to fix.
Any space in that corner, to collapse in?
Yeah, I found some mechanics bits on my archetype that need tweaking to bring the power levels down a bit. Any chance editor Tom McQueen is reading this? I don't have his email address or Facebook info, and I can't seem to find him here on Paizo.

Email the Wayfinder address and ask nicely, I am sure they can provide you with the contact info for your editor (if they haven't already), they are really good at things like this.

Yeah, we got together on it and hammered it out. Tom even seemed to make all his Will saves vs. my Power Word: Irritate (Sp) ability, but he probably had already scribed a magic circle against munchkinism as a precaution. :)

Small request for my editor...
If you are the person working through Pairi-Daêza’s Abode, please let me know of any edits you make as I would like to learn from even the smallest of changes so that I can continue to improve my writing style and submission quality - I suspect it's not perfect but haven't heard anything yet so I am curious.
Even a small PM on this site will be sufficient. Many Thanks in advance and I hope I'm not taxing you too much :D

I mean no offense to the awesome people behind Wayfinder or the awesome people who contribute to it but these "THEMES" that each Wayfinder issue seem to follow are kind a pain in the rear (at least for me). I've submitted material that's kinda mixed and so far it's pretty much been rejected due to not being in tune with the "THEME" of the current Wayfinder. It's kinda annoying me to be honest. Just felt like saying that. Sorry if it ruffled some feathers the wrong way.

Also (and again please don't take this the wrong way) but submitting single archetypes and/or sorcerer bloodlines is apparently hard to accomplish (again at least for me) due to the word count limitations. It's kind of hard to submit a single Sorcerer Bloodline that goes to a minimum of 750 words. Often I don't have more than one bloodline or archetype to submit and while I would bundle them together that would probably only make it even more likely to be rejected due to being "MIXED" and not fitting with the "THEMES" of the issue. Again, I'm sorry if this rubs people the wrong way. It's just I've have these problems with submitting material to this fine fanzine and I'm hoping there are some solutions to these dilemmas of mine.

Any particular reason you have submitted material that did not follow the theme? To follow a parallel train of thought, if you were contracted to do freelance work and it required you to generate content for a particular theme, would you turn in something that did not follow that theme? This is what it really boils down to. If you have expectations to be published outside of WF (let alone within WF), the solution is to figure out how to work within the "assignment".
As to the issue for the archetype, have you considered including an NPC stat block so folks would have a ready to use NPC of the bloodline or archetype? Ideally, you would want to have just a couple of bloodlines or archetypes (and 2 should hit 750 fairly easily), but if you can only come up with one, maybe use an NPC stat block as filler? Not sure how it will be received, mind you (Tim and Paris would be best to answer if this would be a good idea), but it is a possible solution that comes to mind.

Dain really hits the nail on the head, so to speak....
We try to produce Wayfinder based on our role-model...Paizo. The word counts and article subject targets are a real requirement in the RPG industry. When Wes, James, or Sean ask for a 1500 word piece on weird plants in the desert, that is exactly what they want.
By implementing word counts, it allows us to fill a page with the article, and an art piece. Giving us 400 words leaves empty space on the page that we must then find a way to fill. Plus, that's a heck of a short article!
By choosing a theme for the issue, it allows us to both narrow the topic enough that it is preparing fans for the industry assignment they might get. Themes also help bind the articles all together, and we often choose themes that closely tie in with older APs, attempting to let the fans breath new life and interest in those APs that everyone forgot about, but that new Pathfinder fans may not have picked up yet.
I would say this....I do try to pick up and use everyone's submission, if it is mechanically sound, and adheres to canon. I tend to combine articles when it is obvious that they don't have enough there to make up an article by themselves. I do that a lot with classes and archetypes, with magic items, and of course, the bestiary section most of all. That becomes harder to do, however, when a submission doesn't stick to the theme (which reiterates the point about using themes to bind the articles all together).
My advice is to stay on the theme, and come up with a concept based on that theme that would support two class components. So, for instance, caravans. Make 2 archetypes (ranger, rogue) that fit in with roles in a caravan. Or if spellcasters are your thing, make an archetype for a sorcerer, and 2-3 bloodlines, all related to the theme. So, not only does your article need to fit the issue's theme (and we really do make these themes pretty broad), but your article should have a sub-theme of its own.
That's the best advice I can offer. I know it's discouraging, but stick to the theme, follow the guidelines, and write a tight, compelling article.

Right now, Paris and I are experiencing high work loads at our day jobs, so we have been shoehorning in Wayfinder tasks when we can. I'm sure Dain is incredibly busy with his work as well. Many thanks to our team of editors to get those articles polished, and to our artists for some truly great work that has already been rolling in.
Currently, we have articles out for 2nd round edits, and art assignments are due back Dec 15, so by next weekend, we should be getting all the pieces returning for us to start the layout process.
I am optimistic that this issue will be released in January 2014.
As for the call for submissions for Wayfinder #11...I will be announcing that before the end of December 2013. The more lead time I give people on the theme for an issue, the better, IMHO. I've already been giving VERY strong hints. I'm DEVILISH that way. ;-)

I like the themes, because it makes it much easier to find an article later, when you're really in a rush to prep for a game.
Even if it just narrows it down to two possible issues (for those countries that have been revisited), it's a great help. This isn't just with Wayfinder, but goes for Pathfinder AP instalments, Dragon magazine, sci-fi mags, music mags, etc.
The ability to just go 'Badabing! Gotcha!' in a few minutes, instead of wasting the night going through a whole shelf (or pdf library).
"Aw, man, do you remember there were some non-LG paladin variants? Which magazine were they in?"
"Dragon 310, the Martial PCs issue."
"Gee, thanks."

Not working with the theme is one of the best ways to get passed over, not because there's anything wrong with the article, but simply because there are always more submissions than could fit in an issue.
The editors have difficult choices to make, to cut submissions that are all good work. If they have to choose between an article that is on-topic, and one that's off-topic, you just made their choice easier.
I'd second the suggestion of trying to put two ideas into an article if possible. If you can't think of two bloodlines within the given theme, then try to consider how the same flavour would manifest as a witch patron (with associated hexes), or an oracle mystery (with associated revelations)?
Failing that, a related statblock can run to 350-400 words (longer for higher-level NPCs), and it doesn't have to be an NPC. It could be a new companion/familiar/riding beast adopted by that organisation, and still be on-topic as well as useful.

And since I'm here...
1) Any ETA when us proof-readers will need to be available?
2) I know it's a bit early for an official announcement, but could you confirm the theme/location for the next issue? I know I can definitely use all the lead time I can get, and some of the other submitters might too.
Thanks!

Or you could just chuckle devilishly to confirm current hypothesis.

Everything just went to layout this weekend. That could take 2-3 weeks, being that we are a volunteer effort.
I have always put the release date towards the end of January, and I am still hopeful that the end of January will BE the release date.
That's the plan, folks. We'll let you know how things look as we keep moving forward.

STOP THE PRESS!
(always wanted to be able to say that)
Second rewrite of the you-know-what* has been confirmed received by Paris.
Save a double-page spread, and a hot artist who loves drawing fire, ice, wind and rocks. And a guy in the middle looking like a cross between Christopher Lee and Super-Skrull.
*Son of The Kit That Would Not Die!
*The Archetype That Got Too Big For Its Boots.
*Attack Of The Fifty-Foot Alternate Class.
