War of the Burning Sky AP - Radiance RPG

Recruitment

While once news reached the Free Citystate of Gate Pass by weekly teleporting courier, that channel has gone silent, and now news travels by the old routes of rumor — travelers from the outside world. You might be one of those travelers, or a concerned native of the city, but you have heard the rumors. Emperor Drakus Coaltongue, ruler of the
mighty Ragesian Empire which lies to the west of Gate Pass, has been slain in a distant nation, or so the rumors say. Of course, the rumors once said that Coaltongue was immortal. However, no one doubts
the tales of armies mustering in Ragesia, with orders to secure the borders of the empire at this time of weakness and uncertainty. And from Shahalesti, the elvish nation east of Gate Pass, the rumors say its ruler seeks to claim the vulnerable Ragesia for his
people.

Gate Pass sits alone in its mountain pass, one of the few safe routes between these two nations — Ragesia and Shahalesti. For weeks people have been saying war would come to Gate Pass, and now the rumors are true.

In War of the Burning Sky, you will have the chance to fight in a war of mythic proportions, and determine the fate of many nations in its aftermath. Ever-escalating conflicts, powered by mighty magic
and fervent faith, threaten your freedom and lives, and even the world itself.

Driven by the dogs of war, you will head for a distant safe haven, a mages’ school named Lyceum, which has sent up a rallying cry for those who wish to resist the warmongers. You will have a chance
to form alliances, to build an army, and to uncover the strange secrets that underlie the conflict. As the war reaches a climax, powerful magic will threaten to scorch nations, or sunder them into nothing but
nightmares. It will be up to you to bring the war to an end before only embers and ruins remain.

I wish to run a PbP game here on the Forum for Radiance RPG. A free RPG you can find online that is great modular system that still has the good old Dungeons and Dragons feel.

I would like to keep a Radiance game running having just finished 3 campaigns (2 as a GM, 1 as a player) and I'd wish to publicize it as much as I can.

It can be found here: Radiance RPG

I shall be running it in a converted AP from Enworld called "War of the Burning sky", there is a players guide here on Paizo's site for more information.

Found here: Player's guide

We won't be using the extra pathfinder rules found in that document however information about the power groups, myths and general info will still be the same. I will be creating one faction ability per faction that you can trade in one of your racial abilities for if you choose.

The game will begin at Level 2 for Radiance Characters, you may pick any theme, class or race found in the base Radiance book.

On the Facebook Radiance page there are several other classes currently in playtesting phase, if you wish to play one of those run it by me first.

A Few house rules:

  • All variations of craft magic item are banned.
  • Multiclassing is an optional rule and we aren't using it.
  • You may not gain abilities from Invoker unless you are an invoker.
  • Wounds do not cause you to be dazed.
  • You may not use the same swift action ability more than once per turn.

If any of the rules of the game feel unclear or hard to interpret you can ask for clarifications during the application process.

I will leave applications open for one week or until I feel I have too many.

I am looking for 4-7 players of any good mix of race/class variety.

Edit: Thanks for catching that Gobo, link updated.

Sounds quite intresting. I am trying to get into one more PbP and I like the sound of this one :)
I will have to read up on the rules above first so consider this me dotting it.
Btw you linked the gms guide, not the players guide :)

Hmmm sounds interesting...i'll grab the guide and take a looksee

I'll get the radiance rules and give them a gander this weekend.

Dark Archive

It took me 2 years to complete War of the Burning Sky over table top. It is a beast to run. But it made for some epic moments.

I don't know how you plan on running this while running 2 other games and involved in a few others as a player, but good luck.

It should be alright, Radiance combats and checks are far quicker than D&D/pathfinder thankfully. Even into late levels, I will probably go for one of the alternate paths so we don't go all the way to max level as in Radiance just like 3.5 you get really powerful.

Dark Archive

Marking my interest. I will look into the system when able.

Hmm, some initial interest but no-one's come back, oh well. If people do still want to try I'm open to running it, if not I'll try again another time. :)

I'm going through the pdf's now, waiting for my hardcover. I like the Atlan race, but still going through the classes. Let's keep this one on the main page, and hopefully some others will download the FREE pdf, and become as intrigued with it as I have.

If you have questions about the rules or anything about the game I'm happy to help, you can send off a PM if you want.

Thanks, but it's more a case of having time to read all the classes first, since the class...race...etc abilities are all so different. Just taking some time to go through the material. Should be able to come up with a concept by the end of the weekend, as I'm on holiday, and might actually have some free time...:-)

Dark Archive

My time is rather limited, but I will look into the system.

Bump. This take on OGL is actually pretty good...and the rules are FREE! That's right FREE! (Well the PDF anyway)

Still accepting characters? Ah, I see now.

Looking at the Radiance rules now.

Well at this point if I get 4 completed characters I will run it but let's see if I can get that many first :P

*Bump*

Man there are a lot of classes to read. I'm leaning towards Atlan, and either invoker or psion, but got to keep reading.

Every class is only 2 pages though. That's the whole class level 1-20 and all their abilities.

Oh I'm enjoying reading it. It's one of those RPG books that I'm enjoying reading, so it's taking me a while.

I'm enjoying it too. How should we generate ability scores? A point buy?

Comeliness
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

Go with Method 2 in the book, 8s to start and 30 points. Try not to have too many dump stats this way, you can have three 18s and 8s by this method. Try not to be too minmaxed like that as it will hurt you in the long run.

That's the method I used. After racial (Drack) stats.

Str 12, Con 11, Dex 10, Int 18, Wis 18, Cha 13.

Hopefully that's not too Minmaxed. He's a Drack Sage (Arcanist)

3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6) = 13
5d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 3, 1) = 7

Do we roll for wealth, take average?

Sounds like we need a warrior, and a thief...or a full healer then we'll be ready to go. I just need to make my character which I should get to this weekend, not what my hardcover books have arrived!!!!

I think I"m going for the Atlan Psion.

Yeah, so after reading the rules, it feels a little like 4th edition, but made simpler and more story-based. Cool so far.

Drack Sage. (Support)
Atlan Psion. (Damage)

Warrior and Full Healer would probably be best. I can heal a little bit, but it would take quite a bit out of me to keep doing it.

Just a note, there is no such thing as a full healer. Wounds are quite easy to heal for anyone not dedicated to it, first aid on its own can give wis mod to heal wounds. Vitality recovery on the other hand is very difficult, there are no healers that recover it more than once a day. That is part of the good thing about radiance there is no real healbot, a class like that ends up being support based and not really a "healer" as you'd think.

Also starting wealth is the WBL for a level 2, found on the first page of the equipment section.

Ah, okay, thanks.

Here is Yersil.

The profile isn't completely formatted to be aesthetically pleasing, but all the information is there.

Cool, so if I get two more people. I can run this!

One bit of build advice, invest in some calfrass if you have such a low con. You recover vitality at level*con mod (min 1 for con.) So if your con is 0-1 modifier you only get your levels worth of vitality each day, two times if you take a short rest. Calfrass doubles your long rest recovering of vitality at the cost of being in a deeper sleep. (Basically more prone to being ambushed)

I should be able to get my character up this weekend. Might have to start a new recruitment thread...don't know if people are still looking at this one due to it's age and number of replies...or we can try to recruit from other games.

*BUMP*

More Players! More Players!

I'll complete my character if we get a few more on board.

I think I'll repost another thread if you two are still on board for this, I'll do it when I have time tomorrow GMT. I'll see if I can drum up more interest.

That might help attract some new players. I'm in.

I'm in. A new thread could be helpful.
