Damn they are just out in bestiary 4, how can you be disappointed at a lack of Kaiju...
I agree there should be new kaiju in every new bestiary (3 or 4 new each book as they take up a lot of space) but they are new, they can't be lacking.
The only thing that really lacks is Protean, they are around since Bestiary 2 and there are only very few of them.

So imagine a giant spider. but instead of a spider's face it has the massive mouth and hanging lantern of an angler fish. Give it two or more giant pail eyes. Then it also has fin like ears and a scaled abdomen. I want it to live in deep caves in the mountains.
Give it some of these traits.
-amphibious
-large or giant
-evil alignment
-some elusion magic like abilities

I already use the Inuit Amarok which is also a huge wolf.
I never felt anything for Fenrir being a group of creatures, I like it as unique Amarok.
Fenrir = (Mythic Magical Beast or Outsider) (CR 29) (Gargantuan or Colossal) (Chaotic Evil I guess) (Fenrir is a Mythic wolf creature probably the first Amarok to have ever walk the earth.) (Many Gods and deities fear the Fenrir, even Demon Lords rather see the beast dead, too bad the creature is immortal and can't be killed by any known means.) (Fenrir is chained inside a immense cave with chains created by the crafty Dactyl, it is said some non-insane Dactyls are working together with the most crafty of cyclops to create a weapon that can finally lay the beast to rest.) (Amarok, Winter Wolves and other canine creatures hear the beast talk to them with telepathy and through these creatures the beast can act like it is free, giving them grizzly tasks.)
FENRIR VS. TARASQUE! WHO WOULD WIN?
Both are indestructible and have close to limitless strength! The Evil Queen |
I like you Iron Paint, you know your mythology/folklore :-)
Wolpertinger is in a AP, but I would like it to be one of the creatures that get into bestiary 5 + new artwork.
Dwarven Golem can be the Dactyl, Duergar that got insane with replacing their own flesh with magical metal and became golems in the end.

Fey creatures like the ones from the movie "Don't be afraid of the dark"(2011).
Fey, monstrous humanoids, and magical beast that can spawn other creatures to serve them.
Metamorph, small magical beast that change into anything around it's own size(tiny to medium) even objects.
A flying pig with magical powers.
More magical beast that are a combination of two animals like the Owlbear.
More powerful shapechanger creatures in general, can keep there immunities, resistances, fast healing and other abilities in any the forms they take.
Flying fish magical beast that "swims' through the air and can be used as a mount.

It was obviously missed, but that post needed a *sarcasm*. There are plenty of Kaiju (4 I believe, 3 in B4 and 1 in an AP), and a 0HD Kaiju defeats the point of Kaiju. How many campaign big bad monsters does one really need?
I can't agree more about the proteans! A whole race of outsiders written up in B2 and we only have 4 of them with stat blocks? I've said it before in this thread, but the law vs. chaos spectrum is lacking, especially when you look at LN and CN outsiders.
I'd like to see more oozes, though I realize how hard it is to come up with distinct "blob of bad stuff" creatures. After awhile, they all sort of run together and look the same.
EDIT: smurf me!

Any monsters that are immune to magic is fine really. Like an anti-mage monster race that heals everytime they are being effected by a harmful spell equal to the amount of damage or DC which ever the highest while not taking the effect by those spells. However, spells that are not affecting them, or with no saves, are still effective.

Just because I don't want to leave a thread sitting with a final post dated Friday the 13th (no, not really)...
Do we even know if there will be a Bestiary 5 this year? I suppose there's still time; my most recent catalog includes the Bestiary 4 at October 2013... but I haven't seen a Bestiary 5 come up for preorder on the website yet, and this makes me sad. :'-(
An official response to this would be awesome, but I'll happily settle for speculation. :-)
Dragon78 |
I am sure we will get a Bestiary 5...eventually:)
There might be a chance of another 64 page bestiary as well like MMCJawa said. I am still hoping for a Distant World Bestiary or one focusing on one of the other continents like Tian Xia or Arcadia.
Well can never have too many fey though elementals are still way behind. Heck there are less(maybe not even half) creatures with the elemental subtypes then there ones with the demon subtype.

In the interest of adding more creatures to this thread:
Several recent threads pointed out a problematic discrepancy: There are a lot of attractive "female" creatures whose gimmick is seducing men (and yes...sometimes women), but very few creatures that represent attractive "male" with the same gimmick.
People argued that their absence is largely driven by their absence in mythology. which is somewhat true. However, there are some creatures that Paizo hasn't worked on that fill this niche. Note that I am deliberately avoiding the more Satyr-like creatures, which may inspire lust in women but might be considered less attractive. Also this list is far from comprehensive...I am sure a lot of good creatures are still missing, as my sampling of critters for my notes tends to be random and opportunistic.
Seductive and romantic monsters
Amorini = Cupid like spirits of love
Baiste-na-scoghaigh = Shape-shifting lumbering monoceros like beast from the Isle of Skye; propagates race by taking the form of a man and mating with female humans; may kill and mimic different men
Couril = Cornwall/France; tiny fairies with webbed feet and malignant disposition; inhabit ruins and stone circles; can teleport between different standing stones; enjoy dancing, and can force people to join this, which results in death by exhaustion for mortals; often leave maidens pregnant, with the offspring always resembling a village lad.
Encantado = Amazon; Shapeshifting Fairy folk who can take the form of river dolphins. Come from a magical underwater realm called encante. excellent musicians who enjoy parties which they infilitrate to seduce women; crave the pleasures and hardships of mortal life. Can be distinguished in human form by the presence of a blowhole. Can control storms, ensorcel humans to do their will, inflict insanity and illness. Most powerful at twilight; often kidnap people for company.
Gancanagh = Irish Love Talker; male Fey whose touch would completely enthrall a women with lust, to the point that if denied they will pine away and die
Glashtin/Glashtyn = Manx water horse or goblin; appears as a handsome youth with curly hair and pointed ears; attracts victims than shapeshifts into true form to drag them underwater and eat them; only active at night and must return to watery haunts at dawn
Katsura-otoko = Japanese/Chinese; Man in the moon, who spends every night pruning the lunar grove of katsura trees. Incomparably beautiful; beckons to moongazers, and with each beckon shortens their life.
Kishi = Angolan; two-faced demon, with an attractive man’s face in the front and a hyena’s face in the back. Use there human side to attract prey, usually young woman, then devour with the hyena side; incredibly powerful bite
Moon-gazer = Guyana; tall muscular appearing man who appears on nights of the full moon along roads; if disturbed sucks out brains through hands
Nibanabas = Ojibwa/Ottawa; male nymph godlings, which aid people in war and can merge with them to lend them their powers; afraid of loud noises
Perelesnyk = Ukranian; Incubus-like spirit, flies through the air in the form of a fiery dragon; shapeshifter; seduces women by appearing as a deceased lover or husband.
Zmeu = giant warrior, with a magical gem in forehead, who comes from the sky or underworld and can spit fire, fly, and shapeshift; kidnaps young girls to marry them; can take flame form
Not necessarily seductive, but at least related to the topic at hand:
Alastor = Greek; male vengeance demon, avenged wrongs done to women by men
less about sexy times, more about smiting rapists. I will note that Alastor originally started as an epithet for Zeus, and was also derogatory slang for "scoundrel", so could altered to more fit this niche
Glashan = Manx boggart; helps farmers in rounding up sheep or threshing corn, but constantly pesters women and steals bits of their clothing
less seductive and more pervy...but hey a fey that specializes in stealing clothing items (from maybe both genders) would be interesting

I would love to have more kaiju, but not if they all need to be CR26+. What I like to do is take an existing monster, raise its HD until it becomes colossal, increase it's space and reach to at least 50, then apply the kaiju subtype to it to make my own since there is technically no CR minimum for kaiju (unlike demon lords and Empyreal lords).
Sauce987654321 |
Does the Bestiary 4 have a Zaratan yet? It always bothered me that there was no Zaratan. I know the Zaratan from the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monstrous Manual. It is a giant sea turtle that is also an island. It appears to be a CR 20 magical beast.
Then you might like this monster from pathfinder 27 what lies in dust
Sauce987654321 |
All Kaiju are in CR26-30 range, but if you want to apply the Kaiju subtype to a weaker creature then go ahead.
I know the ones currently statted are, and the future ones probably will be too. I was just saying that unlike other monsters in the same CR range it doesn't state that all kaiju necessarily need to be that high. I think kaiju should cover a wider range of CRs instead of the way it currently is.

I am curious why you would want lower CR kaiju, especially when there are a fair number of lower CR colossal vermin running around. Deadly Mantis is only CR 11.

Because I don't like the idea that any monster over 100-ft. tall must be CR 26+. It doesn't make much sense to me.
If I want my party to fight a colossal T-Rex, I could just apply the giant template for a CR 10 challenge. Now if I want my party to fight one that's over 100-ft. tall, I have to jump all the way to CR 26 and above?
Sauce987654321 |
Well not all monsters that big are CR26+ but Kaiju are. There is nothing in the rules that says every creature that is 100+ft has to be a Kaiju.
True, but the only ones that exist are all 26+. I could just increase a monster's space and reach more and call it a day, though it would be nice to have monsters in the book like that which aren't super epic monsters.
Dragon78 |
Well it isn't that hard to modify creatures that are already colossal size though anything smaller will take some work. Just remember to give them the massive monster trait that is listed under the Kaiju subtype. Also could give a weaker monster the Kaiju subtype(minus the massive trait) and say it is a baby Kaiju.

If I read the size table correctly, colossal says average height is 64 ft. or taller, so a giant-template T Rex could be 100 ft tall without problem.
Currently kaiju are "special snowflakes" (I mean that in the best sense of the phrase), and each kaiju is distinct, so there are no "generic" kaiju running around. It is sort of like, if the only stats for demons you had were from demon lords, you would think that all demons were super epic.
While I have the impression that there aren't any plans for "generic" kaiju, Inner Sea Gods has a description of "generic" Spawn of Rovangag. While they weren't super epic, they were still pretty epic, so I would not get my hopes up for CR 10 kaiju.

I believe that the size table was from 3.5, as pathfinder size charts makes no mention on height.

Dude, I really wish I knew all your monster sources. Every time you post there's always several more I've never heard of. Never heard the Zmeu described like that before, sounds pretty cool actually. Considering that I don't have NEARLY enough in my fictional world, might I suggest all things arthropod next?

Arthropods might be good...might throw that in tonight depending on time. Although Arthropods don't in general seem that well represented. I don't think they were generally considered that huge of a threat, outside the occasional locust swarm or spider. I really think the focus on them being monsters worthy of revulsion probably only picked up with the rise of natural history and the frequent use of microscopes.
Generally everything I find is via google wormhole (and the occasional in hand book). I look up something one person refers to, which sometimes leads me to another page which lists a bunch of stuff, which in turn leads me to some new creature that I google search, and so forth.
Sincubus has posted some of links I do regularly check. Although I found a good article on Australian fey on Karl Shuker's cryptozoology blog today, which is often good for obscure beasties. It might be worthwhile to take a look at that site if you haven't already.

Cool list of vermin, but I miss the Lou Carcolh, Sazae-Oni and Anansi in the list.
I know snails aren't really insects, but spiders/scorpions aren't as well, I always thought snails fit the insect group :-p Also a lot of worm-monsters like the Indus Worm, Lambton Worm, Black Amazone Armored Worm monster and the Iceland Worm.
Thanks for the Muhnochwa, I didn't know about that one, the others i've heard off and already use.
BTW, Awa-Hon-Do's aren't Assassin Bugs, I made that up because I wanted a Assassin Bug monster in my mythology game. But there is very little information about this creature, and it doesn't say what type of insect is it, only that it bites people, well Assassin Bugs are known to bite very hard. Another option could be the Earwig.

Regardless of the CR of the Kaiju, the Kaiju subtype provides all the resistances, DR, fast healing, and immunities to the monster. So even at CR 17 they still are going to be very hard to damage with most attacks. Bumping its CR to 26-30 is just inflating its numbers, really.
Not all Kaiju have many powerful abilities. The Kaiju from Pacific Rim, for example, don't have many abilities, and some of them actually have no abilities to speak of. I have a hard time seeing these particular creatures being more powerful than anything the game has to offer. That's why they can be represented as a mid to high CR monster with the Kaiju subtype. The entry about Kaiju in Bestiary 4 never even mentions that they must be CR 26 and above (unlike Empyreal Lords who must start out at 21, or Demon Lords that must start at 26).
1998 Godzilla can be represented as a colossal dinosaur, such as a colossal advanced T-rex.
