Gaymer X is the first gaming and geek lifestyle convention with a focus on LGBTQ culture. Gaymer X is open to all, whether you’re bisexual, transgender, gay, asexual or an ally and we hope to make an experience that will be meaningful as well as educational and fascinating.

I’m working to organize Pathfinder Society play at GaymerX in San Francisco this summer. My hope is to introduce new players to Pathfinder, old hands to Pathfinder to Society play, and create a space for LGBTQ members of the Society to play together as part of the convention. Because this is a new convention and there are a lot of unknowns, currently I have only proposed a single slot of formal Society play. Based on preregistration and demand, this could expand further before the convention (or just become some pick-up games in open gaming areas, depending on space requirements).

GaymerX is doing Panels/Events/Gaming on an Upvote/Downvote system for their inaugural year. This means that all proposed events are voted for on their website as part of the approval process, to see what people do and don’t want to see. If you’re going to GaymerX or interested in going for Pathfinder Society, register on their website here and vote for panels here.

The deadline for panel voting is April 30th. Should Pathfinder Society be approved, this post will receive a heavy duty edit into a more formal call for players and volunteers, as well as updates on pre-registering for games.

Big props to Brian for creating the Pathfinder Society Event that is up for vote.

The Bay Area Pathfinder Society is excited about this con and is planning to provide support. Hopefully, by partnering with Brian in his event. However, even if the Pathfinder Society Event is not chosen, we'll try to still provide PFS gameplay in open gaming.

I would ask that folks only vote for the PFS event if they intend to come. We do not want to abuse GaymerX's voting mechanism. This is a young convention, which should be allowed to thrive based on the nerdy passions of its attendees. The last thing the Pathfinder Society needs is to be viewed as a group of cyber bullies.

Grand Lodge 5/5

Voted. I'm looking forward to it, one way or the other.

Sweet! Another convention to my list! Always did want to game in San Francisco Proper for a convention so now I get a chance!

Now all I need is something to do in January, June, and December and then I would have a convention every month for an entire year! That would be pretty darn cool!

Sczarni 4/5 5/5 ****

Voted. What an interesting line-up of panel discussions they offer.

Looking forward to gaming there.

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

Just voted. I really hope this takes off.

I had an idea for a panel, maybe discussing the inclusive nature of the Golarion world, but perhaps that would be better for another year. For now I'll just hope there's room for Society!

Dark Archive 3/5 **

If we have serious interest I think it'd be great do a panel on inclusiveness in tabletop game settings!

A reminder: Panel voting ends tonight at 11:59 PST. If you are planning to attend GaymerX and want to get some Pathfinder Society play in, please up vote it in the Panels section!

We've made it! Pathfinder Society is on the schedule to have the entire Tabletop Gaming room 3 PM-7 PM on Saturday August 3rd. I'm going to also give some support to anyone wanting to do scenarios as part of the open tabletop hours.

GM/Volunteer Signups Are Open!

If you have any questions, you can email me at gaymerxpfs@gmail.com.

Dark Archive 3/5 **

Hey Folks,

As a heads up, as of this post I have zero GMs signed up to run a game at GaymerX. Zilch. None. Nada.

While I'd be happy to run an intro scenario of some sort that I might be able to get two tables through in two hours, that will limit me to only being able to provide Pathfinder Society play to 6-12 people. Given we've been given the Open Tabletop room for a time block, I'd really like to be able to meet any demand as much as possible.

So if you're interested in GM'ing PFS for a single game at GaymerX, know someone who is, have a group mailing list you'd be willing to let me hit up that might have people who'd want to help out drop me a line at gaymerxpfs@gmail.com

Brian, I'm so sorry. I missed the previous post. I'll fire up the email chain. Out of curiosity, does volunteering for the PFS shift qualify volunteers for a free badge?

4/5 ****

"At this time, there are unfortunately no free or discounted badges for GMs"

From the link.

Grand Lodge 5/5

Oops, Sorry Brian. I was meaning to get back onto that after Kubla was over. I'll shoot you an email.

Grand Lodge 5/5

There is a post on the GaymerX that says the regular badges ($45) are sold out. The next level is $135, and a little out of my price range.

Sczarni 4/5 5/5 ****

Oh-oh. The site would not take my credit card, so I could not prereg either.

Dark Archive 3/5 **

I have asked for badges for GMs, but have not had much luck in that area unfortunately. Volunteers for the Con itself are only getting badges for next year's GaymerX. I intend to try to get some sort of incentives for GMs, but can't promise anything until I've secured them.

This is unfortunately an issue with GaymerX being completely new and running on a limited, kickstarter based budget and needing to keep their attendance level in check with the space they can afford.

If, at this time, it is not possible to get GMs in for PFS without badges I will make it clear to the organizers that the event will have issues. Unfortunately, this process until now has involved a lot of education about the nature of organized play so there may be a lack of understanding on how organizing an event like this works.

Grand Lodge 5/5

Brian, on the website where it says they are out of the $45 dollar badges, they do say that they will be available at the door for $60. Do you know if that's a for sure thing? I can do $60 at the door, but would rather not get there only to find out they are sold out there as well.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm in the same boat as Andi. It was my intent to drive the three hours from Fresno to San Fran in order to run a game during the four hour slot, grab dinner, and then drive to Stockton to stay the night in order to support Stockton-Con the next day.

I'm already going to be out of pocket a couple hundred dollars for the weekend. I personally wouldn't mind spending $60 in order to judge a game and support this convention, but I simply can't justify spending $135.

I also know that we can get several good San Fran GM's to show up and run a game if doing so doesn't cost them anything. I'm not so sure we could convince them to pay money in order to do so.

...and I totally understand that it's not you calling the shots on this. It's simply a bit frustrating that we cannot partner with this con in the way we do for Dundra-, Kubla-, and PacifiCon.

Silver Crusade 4/5

Hi there Brian!

I'm counted in! I am open to do whatever is needed. I will only be there on Saturday, but I will be sending out the message in our area to get more people to SF on that weekend. I know for a fact that you guys are located in Japantown, which will be a huge sell for my friends who have anime and gaming loves at the same time.

Looking forward to this convention! It's going to be loads of fun!

P.S: Negative to that 135 plan. But if they do $60, then we're good. So hopefully there will be a go-to plan to help out. :D

I will be contacting the organizers later today to break down the difficulties we're running into and try to get some concrete answers. Thank you for your patience in all of this and for your excitement!

Dark Archive 3/5 **

Good News Everyone!

Pathfinder Society Volunteers will receive the same perks at the same time rates as any other GaymerX Volunteer! So, if you agree to help judge a game during the four hour event slot, you get a badge at half the preregistration cost (So a weekend badge for $22.50). And these badges will be held/available to you at the door.

And if you're willing to volunteer another 2 hours on generic GaymerX things, your badge is free. That's right. Free. F-R-E-E. Feeling really helpful? At a total of 12 hours (4 with PFS, 8 w/ GaymerX General Labor) you get a free VIP badge. How's them apples?

You Just Need to Do Two Things:

1) GM Signup: http://tinyurl.com/gaymerxpfsgm
2) Volunteer Application: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GaymerX
*You MUST, on Question 10, state you are volunteering as a PFS Judge.

My current official cutoff for GM signups is Friday July 5th, 11:59 PST. I will aim to have the Warhorn open for pre-reg by the 8th.

As always, I can be reached here, on GaymerConnect as Psyche, or via email at gaymerxpfs@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.

Dark Archive 3/5 **

A note: The volunteer training is mandatory for all volunteers, including PFS Judges. It can be undertaken on either Friday afternoon (August 2nd) or Saturday morning (August 3rd, also the day we'll be doing PFS). I will have more specific times when they are set by the organizers. The training will likely be about 1 hour.

The training itself has to do with preparing GaymerX's volunteers to make sure the convention is an inclusive and safe space. I assure you, it is worth your time.

Dark Archive 3/5 **

Diplomacy rolls get you everywhere.

If you simply cannot make the training and are only going to be present to judge Pathfinder Society for the time slot, I can arrange an Exhibitor Badge for you at no cost.

Dark Archive 3/5 **

The GaymerX PFS Warhorn is now up and running. You can sign up to preregister for a game here:

As usual, email gaymerxpfs@gmail.com with any questions, concerns, etc.

Thanks bdk86 for all your work pulling this together this weekend! We had a great time, I loved hanging out with my new/but not new players.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

I had an absolute blast. My players were fantastic and the mood of the entire convention was so positive and energizing that it really elevated the experience!

I'd love to have Paizo and the Pathfinder Society have a stronger presence there next year. If we had dedicated tables for the entire weekend, I think we could have supported 8-12 tables per session all weekend.

This was a terrific first year for the convention. I have a feeling that next year will be much bigger.

Dark Archive 3/5 **

GaymerX was a blast. The energy of everyone involved was amazing and despite being in its first year, ranks among my favorite con going experiences ever.

Thank you so much to Andrea Brandt, Will Johnson, John Brandt, and David Li for their support and assistance. Every single one of our players said they had a great time and were excited to find more Society play in their community.

A few debrief items:

1) We had to turn away at least 15 people.

Five people makes a solid table; this means had the demand been there at the start and we'd been given the space, I could have put together at least five more tables. This isn't even counting the number of people who wanted to play and asked me if we'd be doing it at any other time in the con, meaning there could have been multiple time slots/rounds. We also realized that we should have setup a Beginner Box table for teaching the game that would have allowed groups of 4 to play quick one hour sessions. I'm sorry that we were not able to get more people seated to play, but this is important data that I can pass on to GaymerX organizers about Pathfinder Society event needs in the future.

2) Space for tabletop gaming of any kind was hard to find; I'm going to push pretty hard to address this next year.

Word in the halls was that there had been an underestimation of just how much tabletop/card/board gamers and electronic gamers overlap community-wise. As a piece of scheduled programming, Pathfinder Society played an important role in illustrating this both in our inability to meet demand and demonstrating the impact of even that small space being unavailable.
Thank you all for not only your participation, but your patience.

3) Reporting Items
Reporting is mostly done, but there are a few tidbits I want to see if I can't address first before I declare it "complete".

  • I do not have a PFS # for the character "Pips Riverclaw" who played The Midnight Mauler with David Li. Please contact me if this is your character with either your PFS number or if you need a new one to register the character with. I cannot report/give credit to your character in Paizo's system without a PFS number to assign.

  • A person with the confirmation code "GA6QWX" listed this instead of their PFS # at my table, The Night March of Kalkamedes. Please contact me directly if you think this was yourself (if you filled the sheet out in a circle, I believe this would have been Merisiel/The Rogue). If you have your proper PFS number still, I can enter that in or I can get you a new one for reporting purposes.

  • The player of Merisiel/The Rogue at the same table never got a Chronicle sheet from me before leaving. If you would still like one, please contact me directly.

I can be reached on GaymerConnect, in private message on these boards, and at gaymerxpfs@gmail.com. If you have any Pathfinder Society specific feedback from the event, please feel free to drop me a line. If you have feedback about the convention itself, I strongly encourage you to reach out to GaymerX's staff. They are very open to comments, suggestions, and so forth. You can reach them here: http://www.gaymerconnect.com/info/contact

I can help with one of these: The number for GA6QWX is from my sheet of numbers, and the PFS ID # that goes with it is: 97473.
