Decided to post it tonight! What a relief.
Weird how we all did it at the same time like that.
Yeah, it was time for me to move on to the monster round. I have a one already developed and I'm hoping to use it. But then there is always a a twist... isn't there.
Good night Paizo community!

Just submitted. Dang, I hate pushing that word count to the limit, but after reading it in the submission box I saw something that needed a few words to make clear. Oh, well. As long as I'm within the limit, right?
I can't wait to see them. I hope mine is unique, but hats off to any of you who might have done something similar. Good luck to everyone. But especially me. HAHA

And here we go, it's in.
Something I've learned over the past few days is that being top 32 is not the same as wanting to be top 32. I feel a lot of pressure to not f$&& it up.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Yes, especially because of the encouragement of the Paizo community. They want you to succeed.

Kind of.
I'm fairly sure that I didn't make something bad, but I just don't know if it's sufficiently good. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around why the Hound Master was so overwhelmingly popular 2 years ago, because it just didn't wow me.
But on the other hand, I just got a contract in my email yesterday from a magazine that wants to buy one of my short stories. So even if this doesn't go well, I've got that going for me. If I keep it up, I could earn a solid $50-100 per year doing that!

So the site being up and down and up and down made submitting very exciting this morning. I think I spored, stunning screeched, and did a dance of ruin on my laptop. It was not pretty.
Oh there is definitely pressure each round. Time crunch, second guessing, agonizing over wording, if its broken, if its too gonzo, if its clear enough. I just say bang it out and throw it against the wall to see if it sticks. It's up to the voters really and the mob is fickle!

The die is cast and the archetype is submitted!
I'm feeling less nervous than I did five minutes ago; I had it ready to go and kept looking at it, making sure I didn't accidentally press 'submit'.
I completely agree with Maurice - I really, really don't want to screw this up. It does feel like people are watching...
Good luck to everyone :)

I submitted just before the outage, felt lucky and wondered what would happen if it persisted......
Other question: when you guys submitted, did the site take you back to RPG SS immediately? My browser 'hung' a bit so I clicked submit again, then it took me back to RPG SS central.
Maybe it's just a website 'feature'...

reading all these stress posts brings back so many memories from last year. i'm bummed not to be stressed alongside such fine competitors (but part of me can't help but wonder if that doesn't mean that there's something seriously wrong with me, lol).
good luck to all of you, i'm really looking forward to seeing what you've come up with!

I see 29 archetypes in the submission folder, a little over 2 hours to the deadline, some of you kids are cutting it close... :)
Cutting it Close (Ex): At 1st level, RPG Superstar contestants sometimes take advantage of every possible moment to refine their submissions. They gain a +2 bonus to Craft (mojo) checks on any day that they push the deadline. However, using this ability is risky due to the increased stress of pushing deadlines and the possibility that random circumstance will prevent submission. A natural 1 on the Craft (mojo) check results in automatic failure, exclusion from the contest, and a happy day for an alternate. This ability replaces sleep and sanity.
Hope no one finds themselves in that situation today! 3 minutes left...

Focused Mind (Su): At 1st level, a RPG Superstar contestant becomes obsessed and has a hard time focusing on tasks that do not involve game design. He gets a +2 insight bonus to Concentration checks made to follow the round's assignment. He suffers a -4 penalty to any other checks. This abilty replaces working.
Sad, but true. :P

No doubt. I've hardly done any work for weeks because of this contest and I expect it to get worse now that I'm in the top 32. Of course it could all end a week from Tuesday.
Ah, who am I kidding? When I failed to make top 32 the other five years, I spent the next couple weeks working on my entry for the coming year. Of course I do have several other items I didn't submit this year that could make it.

Jacob Trier RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 , Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8 |

Oh yeah, that first submission deadline...Hope everyone made it.
Cutting it too close to the deadline really can't be recommended. It will only earn you comments like these:
Additionally, you've got some typos in your text...e.g., "10 minuts"..."it's" vs. "its"..."Intelligence-based" vs. "Intelligence based"...etc. You need to proofread/spellcheck better. I believe your entry was one of the last to be submitted, so you were obviously working on it right up until the end. These are the kinds of errors that slip through when you do that.
Not fun.
But of course, none of you guys will get comments like that, right....right?
:-)
Best of luck - can't wait to read your archetypes.

Chris's Journal. January 25th, 2013:
Spelling error in the flavor text this morning, dropped extraneous adjective. This contest is afraid of me. I have seen it's true face. The paragraphs are extraordinary abilities and the abilities are full of moxy and when the dice finally stop rolling, all the GMs will weep. The accumulated power creep of all their alternate racial traits and archetypes will fill the message boards and all the designers and publishers will look up and shout "Save us!"...
...and I'll point to the Dawnflower Dervish, and whisper "no."
OK, really, I committed to one last night. Got it all worked out, tweaked it a bit this morning in the hotel and wanted to put it up on the submission form so I could get a Paizo-official word count and see how the formatting looked. Great, just a few more tweaks. Edit, preview, edit, preview, edit, preview.... preview... preview... SITE IS OFFLINE!? GAHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Fortunately, when the first click took a while to come back with a reply, I block-copied what I had and pasted it into the Google doc I'd intially been working from. Saved me a little work later on, but I had to check out of the hotel and catch a train back to Maryland. Fortunately, there was wi-fi on the train (or what Amtrak laughably calls wi-fi), so after many panicked previews, I managed to submit a few hours before the deadline.
Finally back home and duly relaxed after a juicy ribeye steak and an episode of Being Human. My wife is proud of me. That's all that really matters.
