However, voting is closed for R1, so the competitors are free to comment about their items or reply to comments on their items. Just be good sports about it, you've done well, and don't take any criticism personally.

Of course, you should be finishing up your archetype... :)

I was up pretty much until 4 AM working on my archetype last night. Glad being a zombie at work today might actually pay off. XD

Okay newbies! Grab a chalice, mug, or flask of your choice and fill either fill it with wine or say a command word! It's party time! Don't worry, they don't spill. And you can use them as holy symbols when you're praying to the Porcelain God.

(sighs).... This has been a long journey. Its good to be here. (looks around) What is the deal with all this filigree? And why is it so cold? At least I remembered to pack my magic kindling....

I had heard tales of this hall, never thought I would ever step inside. Despite the overdone gold filigree this place seems so comfortable and warm - huh? what's this? tears are slowly falling from my eyes - I must be tired.

Now, is there a good chair to rest my bones?, and would you guys mind if i make it shine silver for an hour? (I've been itching to cast this prestidigitation spell all day!).

I wish the best of luck to all of you! It is an honor to be among you in this shiny hall!.

I'm surprised I made it this far. Congratulations Top 32!

I order a sweet ale and enjoy it peacefully in the corner, looking forward to reading everyone's entries.

So happens that today is also my first adventure (I've been GMing every PFRPG game up until today). Gods be with me.

Congratulations 2013 Top 32!

If you get a chance, can you give us quick shout out as to where you hail from?

Updating your profile also lets us know a bit more about you.

Feel free to briefly enjoy the luxuries of the Guildhall, but we understand that you must be itching to work on and polish your archetypes.

Good luck in the competition.

Wow, I'm really honored to be here, as someone who is relatively new to Pathfinder! I was excited about my idea but when I saw how many submissions there were I figured my actual chances were pretty slim. Congratulations to all the other Top 32! I just got an e-mail from Paizo!

Now, i have a question for the veterans in the hall?, The e-mail says I am to submit my archetype normally through the submit tool in round 2 rules... But I can't find the tool anywhere. (My archetype still needs work, and polishing, but, I got nervous and all, not finding the tool anywhere).

Giorgios,

I think it's a form letter sent to the Top 32 that didn't get modified enough for the alternates. We won't need to submit one unless we're moved into the Top 32 because one or more of the contestants can't continue for one reason or another.

I finally have to comment on these.

Dude, your Vrock puns have been utterly hilarious for years. Maybe I'm a sucker for a good pun, but I snicker every time I see one.

You got an unspoken tribute in my Savage Tide game about three years back when I threw a trio at my party named Vrock Star, Vrock Band, and Vrock Music. Everyone at the table groaned and clapped and laughed.

That's why I'm thinking as alternates we don't submit, because the only thing I see above the schedule is a message saying: Come back January 29 to view this round's entries and cast your vote!

I'll skip the attunement phase and start posting in the Guildhall right away. First, congratulations to everyone that made it to the Top 32, and let me say I'm honored to be in your company! Many of you featured in my own personal Top 32 list.

Now, as per Matt's request, a little bit about myself. That huge name before my forum tag is really my full name, though I normally go by "Pedro Coelho" only (it is kind of common to have a bunch of surnames in Brazil). I graduated in advertising and I work developing live graphics for a TV station in São Paulo, the largest and liveliest city in the country (though definetely not the prettiest).

My first contact with RPGs was in my early teens, around '94, when a toy company in Brazil released the Dragon Quest box. I played it a lot with my cousins for a few months and was instantly hooked. After that, however, I never got the chance to play much, since nobody I knew was really into it. After a long hiatus, I made a lot of friends in college that shared my interest for the game; 3rd Edition had just come out and we decided to try it. They've been my gaming group since then, and we've been playing regularly for the past 11 years or so, playing D&D, PF and some Old WoD (which I'd guess are the most popular games around here). We switched to Pathfinder when I started looking for alternatives to the 4th edition, and I'm the GM in our ongoing homebrew campaign.

I first heard about the contest in 2011, and have been following it closely since then. This was my third attempt and it seems it's true, after all - third time is the charm.

This guildhall looks nice. I think I'll come in. And start me off with a hot chocolate. My item is making me cold (not to mention the fact that it snowed today here in St. Louis, MO).

I'm pretty happy to be here on my second submission. I didn't really know what I was doing last year, but I studied hard and here I am! I only discovered this contest when last year's started, after my group switched to PF so we could play Carrion Crown. But I've been playing D&D in some form since about 1990.

I guess I should put some of that in my profile now...

So with Pedro in the contest this year, who's going to start his usual informal tally threads/awesome spreadsheet?

And Jeff, I'm pretty sure you (and other other alternates) need to submit for Round 2. If someone doesn't go on/submit/is DQ'd for some reason, they'll just go to the alternates. That's what happened last year with *muttermutter can't remember*.

Psh. I finished my archetype about two weeks ago. I wanted to save plenty of time for glory-basking!

Anyway, I'm originally from the Springfield, Missouri area, but currently live in Kingsport, Tennessee. I'm relatively new to Pathfinder (I only started playing a year and a half ago), but I've spent the last several years writing regular prose fiction, so I've certainly paid my dues. I put more details on my profile.

I look forward to seeing where everyone else is from, too!

A soft breeze carries through the guildhall, carrying with it first one, then two, then a handful and even more multicolored leaves of varying autumn hues. They hang suspended in the air, drifting and swirling as they eventually come together and form an all too familiar face. The proxy's lips soon move with precision and purpose, a rustling voice issuing forth upon the wind.

"I regret I haven't been able to be as involved with RPG Superstar this year as I would have liked. But I've been watching all of you come together with your innovative creations for this year's competition. Some of you are familiar, both from prior contests and the various feedback threads. Meanwhile, some of you are new and show just as much promise as those who proceeded you in these hallowed halls. While current obligations will likely keep me from commenting as often or thoroughly as I usually do, know that I wish you good luck and great success. Make the most of this opportunity and cherish the experience."

The leaves shudder as the face loses definition and they return to a swirling, amorphous mass. Then, the wind grows stronger, sweeping them through a complete circuit of the chamber before dispersing and exiting just as suddenly as they appeared.

Hi all, and congratulations to everyone in the top 32! It's really fantastic to have been picked, especially given all the amazing (wondrous, even) items folks cooked up.

Thanks to the judges and everyone who voted - I'm excited and grateful to have been given the shot at Round 2, so I'll do my best with it. Just the very quick "about me" -- I'm from Morgantown, WV, and living now in Chicago. This is the second time I've submitted an item for RPG Superstar, and I've been playing some form of D&D/Pathfinder since a friend of mine took me through a Dungeon adventure featuring a giant talking trout back in 1993 or so.

I'll be around a bit more later, update my profile and all, and one of the things I'm most looking forward to is getting to know some of the folks that make up this great community at Paizo, but for now, as the wise man said, time to polish up that archetype!

Yeah, but the lack of a submit button anywhere on the page nixes that idea. I sent off a PM to one of the judges to clarify the situation.

Good luck to the other 31 contestants that made it here to this grand hall (and the alternates if need be). And good luck to those who haven't made it here yet, but will try again next year. And the year after that. And the year after that. And the year after that.

Ah, lovely place you have here. Thank you for letting me in. Is that filigree brass? Gold? Truly? You know a lot of people think gold is too ostentatious these days, but I think it's making a real comeback. Silver is too understated and mithral is simply soo 4705, am I right?

Finishing? The secret ingredient of "River Kingdoms" sent me back to the drawing board. I had a great idea for a Bard archetype that always had "freedom of movement" active and never cast any paralyzing spells. I called him the No-Holds Bard. But I can't really fit it into the River Kingdoms, so it's back to basics for me.

Congratulations to my fellow repeat offenders. And a big congratulations to the new blood this year. Be prepared for the next few days to not have enough hours for writing, sleep, writing, work, writing, food, and writing.

And try not to get too fidgety after they reveal our Round 2 entries next week. I understand wanting to defend your reasoning or clarifying misconceptions about your work but don't faceplant into that pitfall. Getting a DQ is not a tasty dairy treat with delicious toppings in RPG Superstar, it is the opposite of that (so probably like insanity wings rolled in the crushed dreams of ghost chilis and smothered with the boiling blood of a thousand and one hellhounds.)

I feel honored as an alternate.

I only started tabletop RPGs April 2012, but I've been into designing games all my life as I moved all over the east coast of USA. I'm currently working on several game projects, including a tabletop RPG based on a setting I wrote, a tabletop card game, and a computer game engine. My goal is to create a game that sees a Steam release.

But with Pathfinder and me finishing up my computer science degree, it's amazing I find time to create a wondrous item worthy enough to make it this far. I'm glad so many voters enjoyed my work. I'm very curious about what kind of feedback there is of it.

Alternates, remember! There is a statistical likelihood that somebody's going to submit late, so you'd better be just as psyched and prepared as everyone else. In fact, the underdog, dark horse thing could be an advantage in the long run.

So hop to it! Archetypes! Go go go!
