I think I have a decent shot of getting in this year - much more than in previous years, but if not, I'm really looking foreward to cheering on my favorites. I wont feel the stress until tomorrow when I am unable to log on due to server traffic or have to wait until after work to see if I'm in.

I wasn't expecting to qualify last year, and I honestly think I have a better entry this year. We shall see. I saw it twice pre-cut, and none post-cut. But there were a lot of truly lousy items I saw multiple times post-cut (sometimes in successive pairings!), so that's no indicator.

Ah, well, can only wait! best of luck to everyone!

I finish work at 5:30 PM EST. Should I:

A) Check the site on my cellphone as soon as possible, get all flustered, attempt unsuccessfully to carry on with my day, and anger clients, coworkers, and bosses

B) Drive like a mad man as soon as I punch out, as if getting home earlier would improve my chances

C) Go to the gym (right next to my office) to work off nerves first, then return home, take a shower, eat and relax a bit, then calmly check the site

I'll probably check my email and the forums tomorrow like everyone else but after five years I know better than to get my hopes up. I still wish everyone that does make it the best of luck and good job. There were a lot of very interesting items this year, a lot of potential, and a lot of things that made me think--while I wouldn't use it as was in my games I certainly liked the ideas behind them enough to do some tweaking. So thank you all for that as well.

I'm having this weird feeling all of a sudden.... For some reason I want to write an adventure proposal to add paladin levels to a tarrasque and give him an awakened tyrannosaurus fighter as a cohort. The followers of the tarrasque would be awakened deinonychus ninjas. The adventure would be a journey to the Abyss to visit a certain demon lord. Hmmm.... wonder where that came from....

While that's mostly true, if your formatting error was the only thing preventing you from going over 300 words (i.e. leaving out a word from the template or no space between the price/cost and "gp"), it could get you disqualified.

I reported quite a few where spacing or leaving out template bits brought the count over 300. Didn't see a single one I reported afterwords.

BB, don't worry. Since you are a marathon voter and, based on my prior post that marathon voters are either surprisingly well represented or surprisingly poorly represented, then there is a strong likelihood you are either in or you are out. See?

Even I have to agree with that.

I know I'm a little late into this thread. I'm very nervous. I ended up being very busy after the first week or so of voting, so I don't have a particularly strong frame-of-reference for how my item stacks up. I saw many items that were worse than mine...but I now don't feel that my item has alot of that "pow WHAM SHAZZAAAAM" that a contest-oriented submission should have.

It is weird. I've never done anything like this before. I've had close friends have great success with RPG Superstar...indeed who quote it as a turning point in their lives. I guess this leaves me feeling like I'm about to make a jump off a precipice, looking to land on the classic "rpg life-saving getaway ship", but I think I'm bad at jumping, at least in this god-awful metaphor.

I did not expect it at all in my first year and was caught off guard. I thought I would make it last year and didn't quite make it. I am somewhere between those places this year, acknowledging that my item was slightly hasty in its creation, and competition was quite stiff. I did create an archetype to be prepared - but am in no expectation that I will be there, and will be happy to be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. I've entered all six years now and, though I feel this year was by best entry yet, I'm not getting my hopes up. Each year of disappointment was less difficult than previous letdown and this one should be even easier. Except this year I've already sunk a ton of time into an entry for the second round, creating 5 archetypes (only two of which I'm really considering now), when in previous years I had only done some note taking and brainstorming. That might make it harder this year. Of course, if I don't make the top 32 I will post all five of them on the "What I would have entered" thread.

Good luck, everyone. Don't get too stressed out about it. There is always next year.

I can honestly say I feel calm. There is a little bit of excitement for the race begiining tomorrow & excitment of the top 32's great work. But after 6 entries & dozens of practice items I feel calm about my personal chances.

Not many six timers left, but lots of practice at eating humble pie. So I'm calm, let's have fun :)

I had gone back to Zen-Contestant mode... ...Until Clark started taunting us again. *fist shake*

Though, to be quite honest, I'm getting more and more of a sinking feeling that I won't be breaking the Top 32 this year, so right now I'm mostly curious how many of items that made it are ones I saw during voting.

Though, the results go up at 4PM tomorrow, here...so work is gonna draaaaaaaaaaaaaag...

Listen, this year was really good. Will it, in the end, yield a Neil or a Boomer or Jason or any of the many others who have gone on to finish high (not even necessarily win) and parley that into more freelance work, that remains to be seen. But I have to admit I am impressed with the field this year from top to bottom. So if you don't make the cut, don't hang your head. Keep at it. And those of you who just missed, submit your item for discussion and as you know we will all help.

My first introduction to the Paizo Boards was the first RPGSS and because of the encouragement, the suggestions, the advice, and the dedication from the likes of Clark, Neil, SKR, and the community as a whole over the years, I keep coming back. It is wonderful to see that the people behind the industry of the game are so dedicated to the core of what RPG's are...a creative outlet to share with friends. The fact that they want to encourage all of us to be creative and succeed at the dream of being "in the business" only shows they know that the game is more than just business.

OK, fine...I'll post. I am excited and trepid. Not unusually so. I think and hope my design skills are chosen. Although I saw some things I would correct, one or two trifling and idiotic errors.

Edit...

Also, I succeed on my will save against Clark's Marathon voter comment. I am determined not to let it get me more excited or depressed.

It makes me feel a little sad for not entering each time it becomes time for the top 32 reveal. I had a lot of fun the one year I did enter waiting for the announcement even though I don't have a lot of faith in my item designing. I am looking forward to seeing the top 32 more than usual this time though, it'll be fun to see if I remember voting on any of the items that make it. :)

The contest comes at just the worst time of year for me though, or at least has for the last few years. It's the busiest time of year at my work and I don't want to enter knowing that I couldn't actually put the necessary time in if I progressed.
