Is it just me, or is the site slowing waaaay down today? Every link I click takes like 20 seconds to load.
Seems like the goblins are up to their old tricks again ...

This seems to be the slowest site on the internet. I have a very fast connection and this is the only site that is always slow. I bet you can't find a slower site. Even back when I had just a 56k modem sites loaded faster than Paizo today. They really need to do something about it. Downloads have a good speed but pages load very slowly.

I suspect that secretly, of course, it's Rasputin's vile curse, as part of a long-term plan to destroy Paizo, before it's too late for him!
I guess that might save him.
Sadly for him, it won't.
We know now. We know.
Paizo's site tends to be slow. I've noticed it for years now. Could be poor coding or poor web hosting.

Kick the server goblins, and get them working! With the last push for the PFO KS over these next 3 days, having the site running crispy would be good.
It seems to bog down over time. For example, it's running quite quickly right now. I suspect there's a memory leak or some such somewhere in the backend code that slowly spirals out of control until something needs to be restarted.
Very very slow right now. Leaving site or I will die of old age waiting for a page to load.
+1 concern
This has been an intermittent but increasing issue over the past few months. Catastrophic success, code, or capacity – whatever the root cause is, I hope it is resolved soon.

Please resolve. I want the web page to load before I start collecting Social Security.

I'm no more impatient than the next guy, but I've noticed this for quite some time. The Paizo/Pathfinder experience has always been a enjoyable one for me, save this consistent (if not super-important) little annoyance. Has anyone from the staff ever discussed why this might be, and if there are any plans to work on it?
This is all said understanding that the site serves so many people in so many ways. I do wonder how the addition of the Game Space (which I can't wait for!) might overburden a site that already seems burdened based on load speed.

Frankly, our current ISP sucks. We're getting a new one.
Yay! (If it works!)
Whyyy! (If it doesn't work.)
Thanks for the update Vic. Hope all goes well with the change.
Vic Wertz wrote: Frankly, our current ISP sucks. We're getting a new one. I hope this works. It seems to be slow more often than not.
But I still try because I love the content. ;-)
It's usually quite snappy in the office, where we don't rely on our ISP...

Vic Wertz wrote: It's usually quite snappy in the office, where we don't rely on our ISP... Yikes. For me (decidedly outside your office) it's consistently the slowest site of any I visit.
But I just can't quit you, Paizo! :D
Vic Wertz wrote: It's usually quite snappy in the office, where we don't rely on our ISP... LOL - well played Sir, well played.
I look forward to your move to a new ISP.
Have you guys considered virtualizing your servers and hosting them in the cloud? I actually work for a large vCloud provider, and you might very well want to evaluate the TCO on routinely buying/maintaining servers as well as the speed/security of having your servers in the office vs. a dedicated datacenter.
Good luck regardless! :)
Hey Vic, has the ISP change happened? Site keeps crashing on me, which is inconvenient for updating PbP games during lunch breaks.
Sigh... I haven't been able to schedule the downtime. We've always had some event going on, like RPG Superstar, PaizoCon event registration, or subscription shipments and new product PDF releases (which ensures there are at least two weeks out of each month when I can't schedule it). And with PaizoCon coming up, I'm now looking at late July at the earliest....
Yeah, the site has been pretty much grinding to a slow halt for me all afternoon.
If was fine this morning though ...

This afternoon has definetely been signifcantly slower than usual.
Yes, the last 3.5 hours or so have been a lot slower than normal; the site was working fine earlier (as it does most days, in my experience, with only the occasional 30m-1hour "slowness").
So we can't blame this one on the ISP... it was definitely our servers. We're investigating.
I blame the new software developer. Because.

Thanks for getting back to us Vic, and thanks for your work to keep everything running. I do not envy you.
The site seems to be slow now. Is it just me?
No, it's you and me both. And perhaps others as well.
Just want to say while I know Vic is on it, I need to vent.
I hate when it take 1-2 minutes to move from page to page. Makes being active on the forum very hard.
Ok, end of vent.
Hope you can make the change Vic.

Me too. Does it have anything to do with the GameSpace Beta traffic?
Unable to ping paizo.com before timing out. Taking several minutes to load a page. Something is definitely wrong. Seems odd that it almost always happens during the business day.
Yeah, I've noticed since yesterday that the website seems to be slower than ever. It's been slow in the past but, for me, the last two days are the worst it's ever been. It takes over a minute to load the messageboards or to open a forum thread page.
I've had slowing issue (much more slow than normal) for the last 3 hours....that is, all the time i managed to put into the site today :(

Earlier today I discovered a bottleneck displaying the players page for some play-by-post campaigns that would cause a site slowdown. This bug has been fixed. I'm sure there will be more but at least that's one more cause of slowdowns fixed....
3.25 hours after that post, I'm still seeing very long page load times.
15-20 seconds for me. Much faster than this morning.
Edit. Loading the page right after this post took about 2 min. Hmm.

Loading times are not really great, but at least manageable, compared to the impossibility of yesterday.
Load balancing...look into it. ;-)
I'm on the East Coast and the site is always fast and responsive in the morning. If the site is going to drop into super slooooooowwwwwwwwww mode, it always happens sometime after lunch. I really wonder if at least some of the issue is caused when the West Coast folks get online?

I would think the same thing except I was seeing real slow times in the evening, like 8pm-11pm Pacific Time. And I can't imagine there were that many East Coasters still on.
I'm on the East Coast and I'm usually on that late (post-midnight our time) but I'm only one person so I don't think it's my fault. Maybe it is, sorry guys.
Anyway, it's gotten a lot better for me the last two days so something has changed.
Even at its quickest the site is still the slowest on the internet.
I've had this issue pretty much since I started visiting this website, just accepted it as part of life.
I find that it's usually slower the later in the evening it is - I'm based in western Europe so I always assumed it was connected to the US users logging on.
