So I've been kidnapping items via copy paste that I like for my campaign. I am most certainly rooting for those items but if they don't make the top 32 as a creator would you be annoyed or happy people are using your item?
Personally I'd be flattered win or lose but I admit a bit of reluctance to use someone's item without permission.

There's 2-3 items that had enough in common yet were different enough to create a theme that is actually inspiring a subplot in my game. The items are going to help this group become a power player. I'll share that after item round is done, but it has made voting more exciting for me.
Its no longer voting its idea window shopping!

Ok, so a technical question. Are all the seen entries Open Content under OGL? Many of them specifically refer to materials released as Open Content under OGL.
** spoiler omitted **
I interpret what Sean wrote above as "use them in your game all you want, just don't put them in anything you publish."

I would be really happy to have my item being used.
While we wouldn't want to have people critiquing items without the creator's request, would it be wrong to post something about what items you want to use in your campaign once the round is over?
Like, for example with fictional names, I post:
I like the Goggles of Kobold Sight so much that I want to use them. Thank you whoever created them!
Would that be considered bad?

Come to think of it - if you actually use any of my stuff in your game, please drop me a PM. I'd love to know.
What Jacob 3 said. (Though I didn't get the impression that my item last year was all that popular with the general populace.)
I know I stole Jerry Keyes' item from last year, which didn't make the Top 32 cut, for one of my games. I really liked it (though I reskinned it for flavor purposes as the dawnflower diadem.)

I will later disclose my usage of current items, but for past year items I'm using in my rollicking kingmaker game:
Using the Feywhisper Crown on a Blodeuwedd Queen in a planes hex just past Fort Delev (she has minions and guards a fey circle.) One of her minions will also have a Verdant Vine from 2011's contest, partly because I'm sick of my players entangle spell shenanigans.
Next Assassination event the assassin will have a snapleaf to escape with should he be in danger of capture.
The Steadfast Gut-Stone is going to add a little challenge to Baron Delev if they attack him.
I also have a grandmotherly herbalist shop that sellls specialty teas which include my own creation Alertness tea (which the PCs like to supply for guardsmen) and Augury Tea which they have yet to purchase or use.
There's 4 items I've already used from this year. 2 added a subplot to my game as a church makes and distributes them as of tonight's kingdom building session and 1 was a gift from Magnar Varn.

Oops, apparently I reskinned it even less than I thought other than the name. I thought I'd at least changed the shape of the gems into flowers, but apparently not. : )
She hands you a daedal headband set with six small amber gemstones, fashioned to resemble winged insects.
Mechanics:
Adapted from a Superstar item
A simple command word transforms the six gems into tiny flecks of light that randomly whirl and dance about the wearer's head.
The flittering lights fade away harmlessly at a rate of one per round, dissipating entirely after six rounds. During this time, if an opponent within 100 feet attempts to cast a spell, all remaining flecks immediately streak forward and burst like tiny fireworks in the caster's face. The enemy caster must make a concentration check (DC 10 + spell level + number of lights) or lose the spell.
Once discharged, a gemstone magically reforms in the headband every hour until the headband is whole again. The headband may not be reactivated until all six gems have reformed.
They haven't had a chance to use it yet, but hopefully will at some point.

Remember: As part of the contest rules, all submissions belong to Paizo.
And because Paizo is showing you these items as part of the voting process, you have permission to view them, and thus to use them in your campaign.
Are items considered OGL as well? If not selected could I still use my item in something else I do in the future?

I was psyched to read people post in my items thread that they wanted to use in in their games. It was nice to see that others saw a use for it, and that my idea was cool, not just for the judges but for the gamers too.

Vic weighs in on RPGSS and the OGL last year:
Sean K Reynolds wrote:So, if you wanted to quote your own submitted item under the OGL and attribute it to Paizo, I think that's allowed.Actually, that's kind of unclear. The Top 32 are, by necessity, published under the OGL, but the other entries haven't necessarily been published at all. Unless, that is, Wizards would consider the actual act of submission as publication, but I don't think we'll ever know the answer to that.
Since the items have been made public this time around, maybe that qualifies as "being published"?

The general consensus appears to be that if you use someone's submission drop them a PM.
AFTER the voting is over, we can open up a thread for what items people are using in their games.
Here's my analysis:
The OGL generally requires you to cite an author.
The anonymous nature of the voting means you can't cite authors for these items.
Therefore, they're not officially Open.
Is there any chance we can get a PFS approved list from RPGSS entries?
A low cost/free .pdf version of the winning RPGSS entries that advanced each round would end up in 'My Downloads' fast on my account. It is great seeing what we come up with year after year. Maybe Paizo can even do it as a reward for pledging a donation to a charity drive.
Personally, I entered this contest for fun. I will worry about remuneration if I get first place. If Paizo does publish the RPGSS material, just seeing my name in print or even an illustration would be nice prize in and of itself.

Heck, if I won the dang thing, I'd totally just take seeing my name in print on my module as all the pay I needed!

I think seeing how someone used an item I designed in a game (or would like to introduce it into a game) would not only be very flattering, but also very instructive/informative. I mean, when you design for something like RPGSS, it's as much about utility as it is about "check out mah sweet writing chopz."
It's one thing for me to sit down and think about how the item might be used, or get some feedback from my friends, but the perspective of someone from a totally different gaming circle can be really illuminating. They might tweak something and then implement it in a way you never would have thought of.
Then again, people tend to get butthurt over the weirdest stuff...

If we can be built up by words, we can be torn down by them too.
I think the critique my item string is a good place to get both sides for those of us with thick skins wanting a little masochism in their coffee. A string devoted to "I'm using this because I thought it rocked the casba" would be for the ego.
Hmm... I think I might like the ego side this go round.
