Unbelievable. Massive funding struggle specifically to unite the books into a hardcover and we're not going to leave it softcover? Scandal.

I know, I know, a} it never hurts to ask a question and b} Louis probably just wasn't up on the history of the KS and it's raison d'etre. Doesn't stop me from shaking my head and chuckling though.

My apologies if this has been asked:
Any idea when the Psionic Bestiary will be released, and how many monsters? Hardcover and or PDF?
I will be putting down the preorder for the Ultimate Psionics book as soon as I get my latest school-related financial bundling is sorted out.
It's next up after Ultimate Psionics is done and our goal is ~100 pages. It will be a softcover - both color and B&W - as well as PDF.
I believe right now we have over 60 pages of it fully done, but I'd have to double-check that to be sure.
Jeremy Smith Publisher, Dreamscarred Press |
So this week, I've been putting together the standalone book with all the new material.
It's currently over 60 pages and we still have to add two legendary items, several pieces of artwork, and the GM section... so it's very likely to be closer to 80 pages.
Depending on how artwork works out (if I have to get more made to fill in or not), it will likely be ready to go early October.
That will give us the opportunity to have time to have LOTS of people checking that out (since all backers will get it) to make sure we didn't miss anything before going to print for the hardcover.

The listed price is probably the most amount of money I've ever been asked to spend on a single book. It really makes me think several times about whether to get it or not. :(
By "single book" you mean "two books, and then an extra 80 pages of stuff, crammed into a mega-book"? Hopefully if I put it that way it'll ease the decision.

Believe me, if we could do the volume of books that Paizo does, we'd drop that price, but we don't, so we can't. Hardcover in color is expensive when you're not doing huge runs overseas.
Jeremy Smith Publisher, Dreamscarred Press |
So one of the things remaining that we missed was filling in the Alternate Favored Class bonuses, similar to what Paizo did in the ARG.
Here's the discussion with all the combos we're looking to fill in
Feel free to chime in with your thoughts. :)

it is a single book that contains the complete text of 2 other books. its still only 1 book just the same as paizos core rulebook. A higher price for such a tome is expected just as paizos is more expensive than a single DMG or PH from WotC, but this is a bit higher than I hoped. Still well worth it though. Put me down for 2 copies, 1 to play with and 1 to keep under my pillow

If we could print the volume Paizo does and actually sell all of those copies, we could meet them on price. But we can't. :)

Its quite understandable. Like I said, it still seems like a reasonable price to me for what will likely be my favorite book

So, progress report:
I've parsed all of the feedback on all 30 of the racial archetypes and incorporated changes. I have a change log I'll be including when I send out the revised PDF to project backers.
Now I'm working through the psionic classes, then the non-psionic classes.
At this rate, I should have them all done this week.
Andreas is working on parsing the playtest feedback on the feats and items.

I've posted the revised Psychic Mage archetype for playtesting and review because it got pretty hefty revisions from the original Beta.
Now I'm finishing up the two remaining psionic class archetypes and then archetypes are done!
AinvarG |
Arcane Power: A psychic mage can convert spell slots into power points as a free action. When he does so, he gains a number of power points equal to the minimum required to manifest a power one level lower then the spell slot sacrificed. For example, if the psychic mage sacrificed a 4th level power, he would get 5 power points, the minimum required to manifest a 3rd level power. 1st level powers may not be sacrficed in this manner. These power points must be used within one minute or are lost.
Should that say 4th-level spell slot?

Aaaaannnndddd...
Just posted the Feral Heart changes.
That's the last archetype! The other ones were fairly modest feedback that didn't require another round of review.
Andreas is finishing up the feedback from the new items and I'm finishing up the remaining Legendary Items.
We are actually AHEAD of schedule for our projected timeline.
And since I didn't post it here, here's the updated timeline.
Here is the (currently) projected timeline. Please keep in mind that there are several moving pieces in here, so this is all projections and is not set in stone.
October 7th - All new content finalized and put into stand-alone book. This is the 40+ new archetypes, the 40+ new feats, the 10+ pages of psionic items, etc. All things told, about 80 pages of new material. I've got 10 archetypes left to review playtest feedback, Andreas is working on the item playtest feedback and finished the feats playtest feedback.
October 14th - Psionics Augmented (the 80+ pages of new material) released. Extra time is given from having the content done for layout + additional graphics.
October 14th - November 3rd: Time allotted for feedback on the new material in case anything was missed. Layout on Ultimate Psionics progresses, incorporating all of the new material.
November 4th - Layout for Ultimate Psionics completed and PDF released. PDF submitted to printer to start the proofing process.
November 4th - November 18th: Time allotted for feedback on Ultimate Psionics layout to make sure nothing was missed. Psionic Bestiary and Psionics Embodied work progresses, with Psionic Bestiary the top priority.
From past experience, proofing can take 2-4 weeks, after which, we order the full print run.
This isn't a comprehensive timeline, just for the part of the project folks are most concerned over - the hardcover.

I thought I read a comment where Jeremy didn't even wanna think about mythic psionics, but dreamscarred just mentioned something about mythic psionics on Facebook lol. Shweeet
It's amazing what finishing seventy pages of new material will do.
I'm hoping to have an alpha document later this month.

When's the hardcover set for again? I'd like to get the pre-order, but things are tight right now, so holding off if I can. :) Prefer to get the pdf with it but may have to buy separately.
Excellent, so when's the cutoff for doing the pre-order and still getting both?

Sorry for missing this.
Basically, the cut-off is whenever the PDF is released.
And with that being said, I'm currently working on the 6th of 8 chapters in layout. 5 done, 3 to go, and the one I'm working on now is well more than halfway done.
We're a bit behind our updated timeline, as layout has taken far longer than expected, but the good news is that progress is going at a rapid pace. When I did our November 1st Kickstarter update, none of the chapters were done. Now, more than half are done.
By next week, layout should be completed... then I have to go through the errata and typo / bug hunt (I have several documents from several folks with things like incorrect capitalization, bolding, and the like... that will probably take a day or two). Then the PDF gets released and I send the files to the printer!
Jeremy Smith Publisher, Dreamscarred Press |
Question: what is the benefit to per ordering? Cheaper or something?
You get the PDF at no additional charge.
Once the book is out, the print + PDF will be higher than just the printed book.
Same thing that Paizo does with their preorders.
Jeremy,
Will the backers in the Psionics Miniatures whose pledges include a copy of the UP and Bestiary get access to the PDF versions when they are ready? I don't recall seeing that question come up in that KS previously.....
Yes - and I'll put that into the next update.

Here's this week's project update from Kickstarter:
Greetings for this week's project status on Ultimate Psionics!
What a difference a week makes!
Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 are done! I'm currently working on Chapters 5 (Powers), 6 (Advanced Options), and 8 (Items).
Chapter 5 - Powers is mostly done. We had initially thought we were going to need more artwork for Chapter 5, but we realized (both from feedback and from reviewing other books), that the Powers chapter doesn't need a huge amount of art. It will have some, we were just trying to put in far more than needed.
Chapter 6 may need some more art - and that's something I'm evaluating and have artists on deck ready to turn around some pieces relatively quickly - but only if the chapter is under-illustrated.
From a layout perspective, 5 is about 75% complete, 6 is about 50% complete, and 8 is about 90% complete.
For Chapter 5, I still have to standardize and double-check all the power lists to make sure everything is in there. All of the powers themselves are alphabetized and standardized. With 130 pages for just the powers, that took quite a bit of time - I'm glad it's done! The whole chapter should be done next week.
For Chapter 6, all the new material is in there, I'm still going through and standardizing and organizing it all and putting graphics to page. The majority of the remaining work is in this chapter.
For Chapter 8 (Items), I'm working on the tables and graphic placement. All of the text is in there, has been standardized, formatted, alphabetized, etc. Now it's making sure all the tables have been updated with all the new stuff, getting graphics in the right spot, and making sure things flow properly from page to page. That should be done next week.
There is still the "bug hunt" that I'll be going through and doing. I have quite a bit of feedback of things that need to be fixed - things capitalized that shouldn't be, inconsistency in entries, etc. The nice thing is someone went through and did all the work of finding all those little glitches, now I just have to find and replace.
On the Bestiary front, I'm going to try to have a 6-monster mini-release ready for next week. The new monsters that were turned over need a little bit of work, but should be done quickly.
Finally, posters! I've had literally dozens of posters packed up and ready to go for some time now. I finally got them taken down to the post office, as their online system won't let me buy the standard postage from my computer, and their self-service kiosk told me I couldn't get the postage there, either. Given that the line at the counter was over a half-hour wait, I left and went back during a less busy time. One of the postal workers told me I can buy the postage through the kiosk and just drop off the addressed and labeled tubes at the counter without having to wait in line. I just can't drop them off in the self-service station (makes sense, they wouldn't fit anyway.) Posters (and dice/tokens) will be shipping out to the highest backers first. Some of you may get them in two shipments - I can only fit a small quantity of dice and/or tokens in the tube with the poster without potentially damaging the poster.
That's it for this week! Ideally, next week I will have the PDF ready for review. Something to enjoy as the holiday season approaches?

I've sent off the final chapter, Advanced Options, for content review to our backers to make sure I didn't miss anything. I did - two paragraphs of introductory text which I've since filled in.
I've also finished formatting the Appendix and Glossary. Andreas is finishing up the Introduction and now I'm working on the bookmarks.
I'm also incorporating all the little tweaks that were found through additional playtesting and trying to minimize any impact to layout from them.
I'm hoping we can have the PDF out by the end of the week!
Guy Ladouceur |
I can't wait for the PDF of Ultimate Psionics to come out either, but I'm with Endzeitgeist about getting this right the first time, like he stated in his review of Psionics Augmented. So if it's going to take an extra week or two (in my opinion) go for it, I have waited this long. So please take the time needed and get this product as close to perfect as possible, for it will be one of the jewels in my shelf in due time.

Sorry, not a preorder, but I do have a question I'll be cheeky enough to slip in here and see if anything comes of it!
In the 3.5 ExPHB, augmenting powers was an inclusive deal.
If a power had;
For every 2pp spent augmenting this power, get +1X.
and
Spend 6pp to augment this power, receive Benefit Y.
Then spending 6pp would get you +3X and Y.
Is this still the case, or are they individual costs now (so 3X + Y would cost 12pp)? It wasn't mentioned one way or the other in my copy of Unleashed, and while coming from 3.5 I assumed it still worked the same way, I know some people who never played that and assumed that wasn't the case, so it's not as obvious as it might seem.
Or we're just a dumb group.

I'm pretty sure it just gets you Y, the +3X would be a separate 6 PPs for a total of 12 to get both. The only Freebies I can think of is how the save DC on some powers goes up the more Dice of damage hey do.
then again It's been a while since I used Psionics in our games so I'm not that reliable a source
Jeremy Smith Publisher, Dreamscarred Press |
It depends on the particular power and the wording.
Here are two examples:
Time Hop
"Augment You can augment this power in one or both of the following ways.
1. For every 2 additional power points you spend, you can affect a creature of one size category larger, or double the weight of an object to be affected.
2. For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power can affect an additional target. Any additional target cannot be more than 15 feet from another target of the power."
The power points spent augmenting only go toward the augment option you pick. You can get both (2 pp for a category larger, and 2 pp for a second creature), but that costs 4 power points, not just 2.
The same rule applies on Concussion Blast.
But with Mind Control (and other powers), the Augment option has a "in addition" clause.
"Augment You can augment this power in one or more of the following ways.
1. If you spend 2 additional power points, this power can also affect an animal, fey, magical beast, or monstrous humanoid.
2. If you spend 4 additional power points, this power can also affect an aberration, dragon, elemental, or outsider in addition to the creature types mentioned above.
3. For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power can affect an additional target. Any additional target cannot be more than 15 feet from another target of the power.
In addition, for every 2 additional power points you spend to achieve any of these effects, this power’s save DC increases by 1."
That means that whatever you spent on option 1, option 2, or option 3 also applies to the "for every 2 additional power points" part. You still have to pay separately for options 1, 2, and 3, but then you get the benefit of the "In addition" clause.
Note that this is the same way it worked in 3.5.
