Where did the submission form go?

The form (and contest schedule) used to be visible at http://paizo.com/rpgsuperstar (it's even in Google's Cache), but it's not there anymore!

I think it's supposed to be open for just over two more hours, any ideas on what happened?

Thought it was just me. I would hate to miss out on submitting because of this.

It's still there, it just got temporarily shuffled to the bottom of the page. I've put it back where it belongs. Sorry about any temporary panic attacks.

Ah, the waiting to submit until time has almost run out and something goes wrong freakout. A time honored tradition in RPG Superstar...

Every year I am completely amazed at people who would wait until this late to submit. What if the site goes down? What if there's a power outage? What if your browser crashes? What if you lose internet? Are you really editing your item at the last minute? You'll put your eye out!

I can't speak for everyone, but for me it comes down to the fact that you only get one chance to submit.

I have had a submittable entry for a couple of days now, but given a bit of extra time, I'm happily polishing the submission a bit more.

I've worked with other systems that permit multiple submissions, with only the last submission being used. I realize the system is probably setup the way it is for some technical reason that is ultimately beyond the control of anyone listening, so it's not big deal.

I just end up panicking when the button moves around on the page!

Just remeber, if you keep polishing your entry, you'll go blind and never be able to submit.

(Aside, I had an item pop in my head in the shower. Maybe Donna's Dozens will have another entry.)

careful not to over polish it, you'll take the shine away.

I was polishing my entry in the shower, the paper came apart and the letters all went down the drain.

I'm sure there's a moral in there somewhere.

All the advice from all of the judges has been "zomg don't submit yet, wait wait wait, it has to be perfect!" It's not that surprising to see people following it.

All this talk of polish reminds me of the episode of Mythbusters where they polished turds.

Actually I thought the advice was generally... there is "no benefit or advantage to be had from entering early" which is not quite the same as "wait until the last moment you possibly can to submit."

In the creation of all items (and really all written works) there comes a time when it is as '*perfect' as it is going to be, and any further tinkering with runs the risk of diminishing it, despite your intentions. Part of being a good writer is knowing when that point is reached, but we tend to be our own worst critics, so realizing when it is time to stop fiddling with something can be hard.

*There is no such thing as a 'perfect' magic item, just as there is no such thing as a perfect anything.

Well they were writing that advice three weeks ago, and I'm reasonably confident that none of the judges or previous winners suggested waiting until the last 90 minutes.

I believe the saying goes 'don't let perfection get in the way of getting something done'

Or, if you're a freelance writer, you shouldn't get in the habit of making an official turnover, then revising it with another turnover, then revising it with another, and so on. You gotta know when to say it's done.

In my case, it was a matter of listening to feedback that told you that your item had serious flaws, then starting over from scratch and using every bit of available time to work on the replacement item.

Mind you, I still submitted with a comfortable margin to the deadline. Well, as comfortable as you can get with less than 12 hours to go.

Nicely done, you didnit wait for the last 43 minutes :P

Me? I have chilled the choccies, run the steaming bath and am going to retire to a wet but safe distance - archetypes books in hand and forget that the servers are gonna blow :P

No more posts from me or any aliases till after submission closure, give the servers and submitters a tad more breathing room :)

See you all in 44 minutes :P

I think the sweet spot to submit is about two days before deadline. Late enough you've had time to refine, edit and proof-read, but not so late that you risk missing deadline due to unforeseen computer issues.

I will say this...I should have taken a little longer to polish my item. This is only the 2nd time I've entered, and like the last time I didn't agonize over it, but once I submitted I realized I had forgotten a word...

Yeah power went out for much of town for 12 hours. An hour before I planned to submit. I am glad that my personal deadline and the contest deadline were not at the same time. 0:)
