Which vision Bestiary 3 or ARG version of the Catfolk is the offical look for them? On one hand we have a more humanoid/feral look from B3, on the other we have Kzin-looking folks from ARG.

Which one is really what they look like?

The Exchange

Could both be correct? There are a lot of human variations in the real world.

Personelly I like the one from the Bestiary 3 but it is up to you to decide. If you are the DM let the players decide what they want there character to look like. If you are a player character I hope your DM is open minded.

For what it's worth, the only one that has actually appeared in explicitly Golarion-canon artwork cleaves closer to the Bestiar 3 version.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. There's a catfolk in one of the recent publications in-setting whose artwork looks more like B3.

(I was so glad to see it, I much prefer the artwork in B3 to ARG.)

Isn't it obvious? The females are very lithe, humanoid, and unbelievably sexy.

The males are big, tough, action-packed man-muscle with a bestial flair.

It's all about what the target audience wants.

Of course it does, you can only cleave with a melee weapon.

Nope, you see this picture in the book?

Every member of that race looks exactly like that, no matter what.

You are not going to ruin my game with this "flavor" thing.

James has said he prefers the B3 look for Golarion, and he is in charge of that sort of thing. Dunno why they dont send artists a copy of the B3 art for reference. This issue happened back when they were trying to get all the artists to draw elves right too.

I'd figure it depends on racial subtypes, like the Khajit/Mrrshan/Charr lookalikes would have the climber, claws, etc abilities and the more Nekomimi lookalikes would have curious cat/sprinter/etc.

Catfolk can be anything from the Khajit from the elder scrolls franchise, to puss in boots from shrek, a japanese Nekomimi derived from some anime, to a Gothloli Vampire Nekomimi sorceress named Sabrina Nicoletti that happens to have an army of minions, a taste for blood, and a bonded plush doll 'phylactery' that transforms into a pair of swords with the command word "Fratello". Damn it, now i want to play Sabrina in a PBP.

That's terrifying.

Anyway... I definitely agree with SKR. Not all cats look the same, not all people look the same, so why can't BOTH versions of Catfolk be viable for how the race looks?

The Bestiary 3 look is indeed the version I prefer. And it's the version I try to reccomnend is sent for reference.

But I'm no the one who actually sends the reference. AKA: It can be complicated getting a look settled for a creature. Sometimes it happens perfectly, like with goblins. Other times it can be tricky, like with trolls or proteans or catfolk.

what the

The only thing that would have made SKR's series of pictures better (or worse) (or better) would have been if the last one was just of Rick Astley.

As the great and powerful Bender once said..."they're both fine choices, whatever floats your boat."

I personally prefer the Khajit look, if only because I like the Khajit a lot, and playing one in D&D sounds fun, but I can see a good argument for the whole super-humanoid cats too. Honestly, I care little, cause I don't like playing catfolk enough to actually have to bother with this. Not like I can draw my characters anyway...

That's all I was asking. Which was the prime refernce. Thanks James.

I hate the artwork for the Catfolk in the Bestiary 3. For my games the race looks more like the cat people from Magic the Gathering.

It's your game, they look the way you want. Have fun.

James as said he prefers the b3, hey hes one of the bosses.

but you know what,
should they ever make a furballs of golarion book

they might include both, so in reality both can be preffernce...
