doctor_wu wrote: I feel like I need a hug but played a pathfinder game in a skirt yesterday. I always feel bad that American dudes are excluded by societal expectation from wearing skirts. They're the best. (Same with purses. Seriously, awesome.)
Also, along the theme of needing a hug, I felt pretty crappy last week, so I went and bought a pile of yarn to crochet my way through and get my mind off things. Guess who has a new, super-ridiculously-bright rainbow-striped throw blanket and hat now? :D
And, congrats on your major step in figuring yourself out, Jen. “This above all: to thine own self be true."

I know that this is probably a weird thing, but there's a book coming out this spring called Queer Game Studies and I'm like real anxious to get a hold of it, as it directly relates to my research. I needs it.

Felicitous fortune favor thee, Iammars.
(Rennaivx, purses are entirely awesome. These days I just use a backpack for day to day, but for going out in non-gaming pursuits is better suited to a purse.)

Please share your thoughts when the boom is in your hands. Definitely! There's a really interesting article - What Kink Can Do for Boardgaming - that I'm definitely looking forward to reading. The whole book is edited by a scholar whose work I've been following for a while; he work has to do deal with identity and gaming.

And tomorrow I'm out to my students, and then I'm really out to everyone. Hopefully I'll be able to post in this thread now that I don't have to worry about them cyber-stalking me and finding out before I tell them. (I wish this was theoretical, but some of them found my 3PP work last year after much sleuthing, which was pretty impressive.)
Thanks for all the congrats!

Jen,
PM was sent to you, hope it wasn't too obnoxious.
Congrats on taking one of the hardest steps on such a journey, and remember even if things get dark there's a buncha folks here pulling for you!

I saw the PM, I started typing a response, then realized that I don't have one of my lesson plans for tomorrow. That's kinda taking priority. :p

All good!
Focus on that! Your students are kind of important. They are the future!
Keep us informed. I'm genuinely curious to see how much support they give.

I feel like we need to make Rysky clones so that we can multiply the amount of hugs in the world. Physics knows, it needs them.

I have to admit that I can provide more than enough mass...
doesn't help with the cloning though...

My favorites from them are Fire Fire, Honeybee, Turn Back the Clock, and The Stars. The Stars is the only feel good one out of it though >_>

Yeah. The rest of those are pretty dang dark. Hatchworth's little diatribe in the middle of the Stars was absolutely adorable, though!

But yeah, those songs are sad. Fire Fire in fact really gels with Dead Space even.

I'll definitely take a Rysky hug today - work's been ghastly and I don't feel good. :(
I could use a hug as well. It's been a long day, I accidentally got into the imgur section that's all about making fun of nonbinary people and I'm making an appearance one of our local PFS nights. I just know I'm going to get misgendered all night long and there's not much I can do about it.

Not a huggy sort, but will accept and offer in return. Weekend off is suckething mightily because the weather is not so great, and every idea or plan turns into 'not logistically feasible'. Hopefully gaming tonight will fix...

I just wanted to share some good news on my end with everyone:
I just got accepted into one of the top pharmacy schools in the country! :D
For the past two years I've been in the midst of a career change, leaving behind a ten year career as a cell biologist and going for my PharmD. So back to school to finish some prerequisite classes for different programs, take the PCAT (and got 99th percentile!) and then working in retail for the first time in my life as a pharmacy tech.
Despite crushing self-doubt on my end through it all, I ended up getting accepted by every program that I applied to. I'll start school next summer. Wish me luck!
Good things can and do happen, even if the road has been somewhere between rocky and a total train wreck at points prior through it all.
Understandably, my freelancing will go down to a minimum for the next four years, with the amount being adjusted based on how difficult I find the class load and what things get offered for me to write. :D
I'm still giddy over finding out the other day from my top choice.
