I'm in.

Now for an early dinner and most likely some sleep...

Also, good luck everyone!

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 8

Oh my goodness. That was maybe the most stressful evening of my life. I've been away for work all week but I thought I had enough time this evening to get everything sorted. However, when my laptop crashed with 5 minutes to go, leaving me with no choice but to get a different PC out, scan the map again, and get it all attached to a new e-mail, I almost cried. Somehow I managed to get it all in, but at what cost to my sanity, I don't know.

All I know is, I'm not allowing my actual job to get in the way of gaming ever again.

Oh, and good luck everyone!

Good luck everyone!

Congratulations to those who continued, and I hope you all blow us away in the remaining rounds! You've earned this. :-)

It was a great experience just getting as far as I did, and I'm grateful to those who supported me (especially my old Dicefreaks compatriot Kain Darkwind). Don't worry--this will not be the last you hear from me. ;-)

Phew, Daniel! I'm glad that you got everything in.
Seriously, just reading that stressed me out!

Thanks Chris. A couple of hours and a couple of whiskeys later and I feel a lttle better.

Good luck Top 8!

Yikes!

I missed submitting my item one year because my computer crashed on the day it was due.

Good luck everyone!

I'm still reading through the entries, but at a quick glance, I think you guys really knocked the maps out of the ballpark. Some really beautiful entries at the very least.

I had a long day yesterday and am only just now getting to make my first pass through and I must say over all this looks round looks very promising!

And Jacob's right the map turnovers are out of the ballpark.

I'm sure all the encounters are great, but I'm going to abstain from looking at them until I run through them with Jacob M. Exciting!

Hurrah! All round 3 reviews done. At this rate I might get Round 4 reviewed before voting actually closes!
The end of another year's contest is coming into sight...

Half of my reviews are done and posted, and I hope to get to the rest of you tonight or tomorrow. Congratulations everyone, there is some real talent and hard work shining through in this round.

Just a friendly note to all those in the Top 32 that haven't advanced....even though you didn't get a chance to show everyone what you've got in the later rounds, you can always submit something to Wayfinder #7. You have until the end of March....

I would really like to see many of you send something that fits our theme.

Aaaand all the Round 4 Ask A RPGSupersuccubus reviews are up, this time before voting closes. Thanks to the top 8 for posting such entries, and apologies regarding the 'financial' question, given the rules seem to state regular (cash) treasure should not be detailed.

I'm hoping for 32. Or at least 3, I suppose. : )

To those who don't advance, just a reminder to not be TOO disappointed. Personally I know I took not advancing pretty hard, but you've done amazing stuff so far. You're Top 8 in the WORLD in this contest and we've seen plenty of people from previous years go on to make their mark in the gaming world even if they didn't win.

Really looking forward to seeing the adventure pitches.

I'm going for number 1 in Europe, or maybe number 1 outside North America. It's easier than number 1 in North Carolina.

Like you say, it's been a blast either way and there's no reason it should stop here. With Wayfinder, PFS and 3pp there's plenty of opportunity to do more. I've got a website half up and running with a friend of mine. The possibilities from here are endless. Well, there's a lot anyway.

Liberty's Edge Contributor, RPG Superstar 2012 , Star Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 9

While I'd like to make the Top 4 and get a chance at winning this year's competition, I think you all had very strong entries this round, so I won't be terribly disappointed if I don't make it. At any rate, I'm looking forward to seeing those adventure proposals.

Good luck, everyone!

Congrats Steve, James, Tom and Mike. You really earned it. Can't wait to see what you cook up next.

Commiserations to Adam, Sam and Russell. You did great work and would have deserved your spot in the last four if you'd made it. Now we can relax while the Top 4 sweat it out for the next ten days. Poor fellas.

You're looking at this situation through the wrong lens. Since you're the only competitor remaining who isn't from NC, you've just found one more means to stand out to the voters this round. Of course, a better means of standing out is to be awesome. ;-)

Don't worry, Tom - there are a lot more of us, who are NOT from NC. And Steve, James and Mike have to split the NC votes three-way.

But yeah - as Neil said, just keep bringing that awesome, if you want to stand out.

Good luck Tom, Steve, James, and Mike.

I've stuck a short amount of advice in each of your Top 8 threads.

Three last thoughts:

  • Watch the scope of your adventure, if your adventure is too big or too small for the wordcount, then this will put it out of contention. (See previous years for proof of this.)

  • Don't do something that is too close to something already in a Paizo product already.

  • Have a compelling title for your adventure.

I'm looking forward to seeing your best work, hope the advice helps.

Matt

Congrats gentlemen! Very good adventures. It was a shame I only ran 2 of them. There was 3 more I really wanted to GM. Keep up the good work for next round.

Tomorrow's blog is a lengthy one full of advice on adventure design, and specifically on designing something within the constraints of the Pathfinder Module format. All 4 remaining contestants should make sure they read it. Everyone is encouraged to read it, because it's all very valuable advice that will help you, if not in this year's competition, but in your game design career down the road, wherever you may find yourself working.

My advice blog is now live. Be sure you read it and use the extra time designing this round to apply the advice given.

Man, now I'm even more bummed about not still being alive, as I'd totally take the upset of Lehigh (from Bethlehem) over Duke as a great omen. Oh well. : )

Hope you're all coming up with something great instead of watching March Madness.

Just as long as no one is coming up with an adventure proposal while watching March Madness...

"Pharast Madness is an adventure for thirty-two teams of 9th-level characters organized into a single-elimination bracket structure..."

"Angazhan's Madness": Across Golarion, heeding a call no humanoid can discern, packs of animal companions drift toward the Mwangi Expanse. Disobeying the pleas and orders of their druids and rangers, they crawl, slither, and fly away, at once and without warning.

At the center of four rough-hewn arenas, eight groups of eight creatures shun their masters to gather. Wolverines, wildcats, cardinals, lions, bulldogs, wolves--But for what purpose? Only the demonic Gorilla King of Usaro knows, and he'll reveal it only to the beast that best proves its worth on the fields of battle.

I'm reminded of an adventure I once ran where everyone's character was dragged off and imprisoned, so I had everyone play the party's familiars and animal companions on a rescue mission to free their masters.

Glad to hear it, Tom. I was spending all last night and day trying to get on the site unsuccessfully and was hoping the final four were giving themselves a cushion in case a similar situation came up in a couple days. Cant wait to see your submissions, though then we've got nine months before the contest starts up again. : (
