Sure, there are buttons on the pdf's that remove the secret doors and such and another button that removes all the room tags/numbers. So you can print the maps with or without the room numbers and symbols. :]
Sidenote:
0one Games has been doing it for years on their pdf's. Which is a reason I buy them.

Note that the Player View button doesn't just remove the secret door symbol—it also camouflages the secret room itself.

I Apologize if I'm being dense, but which product, exactly, have these interactive maps?
This is included with the Jade Regent: The Brinewall Legacy PDF.

Zaranorth |
Intriguing, can't wait to see these maps. I'm already formulating possibilities.
And now begins my compulsive checking to see if the PDF is in My Downloads. The charge hit my bank account last night, so I know it'll ship soon, but gaaah! The wait, the wait!
It's like standing in line at the theater waiting for the usher to unhook the rope and let you in. Tickets bought, popcorn in hand, and minutes become hours. I'm going to be worthless at work today.

Where is the player view button? I see that the maps are interactive where you can click the room number and be taken to that section of the adventure, but I'm not seeing the player view option. (this is in the one file per chapter version.)
It's actually a separate document that's in the zip file called "PZO9049-InteractiveMaps.pdf."
Will Paizo go back and add this feature (or offer a new pdf) for past adventure paths?
This feature is still in its infancy, so right now that's an unknown. There are a few things we'd like to see feedback on and possible other interactive options to add.

I'm liking it. There is another map I wish had been included in the doc.

Wow, this is a very cool idea. One question/request though: I order all of my Paizo material through my FLGS. This way, I support you, them and I get Pathfinder material on their shelf. Anyway, this means that I don't have access to the PDFs. So now my request, is it possible to release a collection of these interactive maps in a single download for purchase? Kind of like the old style AP map packs? Thanks!

It's an interesting notion...
So how many other people who *aren't* getting the PDFs would be interested in a collection of all of the interactive maps after we've published all six volumes of an AP?

I would definitely buy such a product.
And if you go back and do some of the recent APs (esp. Kingmaker), I'd be thrilled.

Thanks - I completely missed the extra file compared to previous volumes. And I have to agree that this is a super cool feature.

On a related point, I would also happily buy interactive versions of the maps from previous APs. They are not only very useful for printing out, but can be very useful in online games as well.

...and after browsing the pdf I have to say that the artwork of the maps (especially that of the Sandpoint Hinterlands on p. 65) totally blew me away!
I also like the layout of page 6 with the advancement track matching the chapters!
I really hope, we get more of those maps, and maybe a more high-res version of the Sandpoint Hinterlands on the blog :)
Awesome first part!!!

Other Interactive Options might be
toggle on/off
- the Grit
- before and after "the fire"/"the flood"/"the cave-in"/"the avalanche" (etc.) and such things, which change the environments
- starting points of npcs and monsters
- locations of items
- tactics stuff (like when an enemy is using caltrops in a certain, defined area
- hm... have to think of more...

yes please! scanning + photoshopping takes a lot of work, so an interactive map doc would serve me great!
I'd even buy the PDFs for the AP's I'm not running, since a GM never has enough high quality maps. so yes, please!

One of the best parts about the interactive maps, from my viewpoint, is that they don't involve any work from the editorial side of things.
Including things like starting points for NPCs and monsters and items, on the other hand, would require the adventure's developer to be more involved in the creation of these maps. And that's not something I want to see happen as long as our adventure developers are already working long hours in order to keep things on schedule.
Furthermore... since the way that the PCs approach an encounter can impact the starting positions of the monsters and NPCs, I've never been a fan of placing starting positions for such on maps. Monsters and NPCs do things other than wait patiently for their fights to start.
Indicating tactics on a map is even more problematic, since that requires specific interaction with stat blocks and the like. We generally get final maps in for an adventure relatively late in the production cycle, and that would not leave us much time to do yet another level of stat block tinkering.
And super extensive changes, like ones that might be "before the flood" or "after the avalanche" are probably beyond the scope of simple layer change stuff we can do in-house; those types of maps would have to be ordered as separate maps from our cartographers due to the large amount of additional artwork and changes that would require.

There are a number of possibilities with the interactive maps, so please let us know what you'd like to see :)
First let me say these are an awesome addition to the AP pdfs. I've been trying to come up with a easier way to get the maps from book to table and these might just be the answer.
Now I don't know if this is even remotely possible as I don't know how these files are constructed.
Is the square map grid tied directly to the art?
If not would it be possible to add a switch like the existing buttons that could flip between hex and squares? I know some groups (like my eternally complaining players) like the increased options that a hex grid presents in combat.

I would love for an easy way to print them to 1" scale. I know most will be way bigger than 8"x10", so a note about what scale to print to or good "bite-sized chunk" advice on how to make a printed battlemat from these would be great.
In fact, many of our maps printed out at that scale would be difficult to put on the floor of your standard living room. Or a parking space. They're bigger than you might think once they're printed out like that—if they weren't we'd probably be doing this for you already. :-)

I open them in Paint, cut out a 10-square by 8-square chunk, and print it stretched to fit an 8x10 page.

I just wanted to add my own "HOLY _______ THIS IS AWESOME" to the interactive maps idea. As a guy who has a couple times had to make some crude adjustments to use your maps on a virtual tabletop, I love that you can switch to player view and have all of the hidden doors just go away.
So - 'athankye.

This is rather absolutely awesome, and one more reason I'm glad I stumbled across Paizo and Pathfinder. Also, really like the layout design in the book. I enjoyed it nearly as much as I enjoyed the layout for The Inner Sea World Guide, which I thought was the most beautiful book so far.

I already do something like this now, I was just hoping to get the interactive angle to make it easier.
We play on a 4'x 8' table, and I know the maps can be epic. I cut the rooms out and lay them down as they enter them, and clear the table if they move up or down a floor/level. So far, they love it!

If you don't mind black and white you can get a 36"x48" (IIRC) map printed for about $10. The same size in color was over $100 I think. I decided to build a scale version of the Crimson Fleet base when I ran the Savage Tide AP. I had the ground level printed at Fed Ex Kinkos for about $10 IIRC.
I also had the interior of a church printed that was about the same size for an important battle in a D20 Modern campaign I ran recently.
I think the interactive maps are sweet! They will work great with the projector I use to display the playing surface.

Well, I just printed the Kobold Lair of Crown of the Kobold King in 1".
True, it's HUGE, but I normally cut the rooms, and lay them on the table as the party progresses through the dungeon.I normally take the maps from the pdf, but the resolution isn't high enough, so the image gets blurred. But it works.

Am I being dumb in that I can't see these using goodreader on an Ipad? Or is the interactive map thing only possible with a beefier reader? All I get is a sprinkling of A1, A2, A3, etcetera...
In fact, now I notice, the whole AP is pictureless. :(
I get the same error with iAnnotatePDF on the iPad.
The pdfs work fine on my desktop, though.Such things happen often with Paizos pdfs, but I am sure it's an issue that Apple has to take care of!
