Hard cover, PFRPG, edition of ROTRL

Rise of the Runelords

Silver Crusade

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Any one else think this is in order? I would buy one right away.

I'd buy one, but I think most of us already have the books here, so I am not so confident this would sell all so well.

Also, it'd need some reediting and extra content.

Overall, I'd prefer new products set in Varisia with ties-ins, and more Kaer Maga, than a reprint.

I could see a RotRL hardcover PFRPG version with added Varisia content. Possibly Kaer Maga and Janderhoff (as the other three main population centers were laid out in the first three APs). That would be a hell of a selling point for me.

I'm all about a new consolidated, updated and expanded hardcover version as well and I think it would be a big seller - I've been asked by several friends and game store acquaintances if I was interested in selling (one at above cover cost) my first 3 issues of Pathfinder.

Yes.

Paizo has said a few times that this won't happen. As much as I would want a product like that, I'll have to defer to Paizo's business expertise on this one.

Actually...

Vic Wertz wrote:

I mentioned it in the Why We Don't Reprint Thread, but I may as well repeat it here:

"The 'no reprints' rule doesn't apply to everything... and 'reinvention' is also possible. So long as it's done in a way that is as appealing as a completely new product, and doesn't train people to always wait for the reinvention."

So an anniversary edition that updates the out-of-print Rise of the Runelords to PFRPG rules is interesting. The ruleset update satisfies the requirements of reinvention to at least some degree; then, so long as we made it clear that this was a one-time exception, and that waiting for, say, a complete Kingmaker compilation would probably be fruitless, that could satisfy the "not training people to wait" rule.

Edit: Found the quote I was ACTUALLY looking for.

Glad to see I'm wrong, Makes sense to redo these, especially pre-Pathfinder rules ones.

I'm gonna keep giving positive feedback until this actually happens: Release a revised compilation of Runelords!

This AP is a modern classic of fantasy roleplaying. A bound hardback copy would look beautiful on anyone's shelf. It would also tie in nicely with Jade Regent!

+1! I already own the first printing of this AP (in fact, I'm running it now, and just hit the 1/2 way point!), but I would gladly pay for a new copy, nicely updated for Pathfinder. Making it a Jade Regent promotional tie-in would be a great way to spin this as a new product, rather than just a re-issue.

Dark Archive

I can't imagine a Paizo product I would want more than this, updated to Pathfinder I would drop any campaign to run this again :)

Put me down for a minimum of two copies WHEN it comes!

Grand Lodge

I would totally pick this up too! Love this AP, even if I wandered so far away from the original intent with this one! :p

I'll chime in with a "not interested." I already have the individual issues, so there would have to be significant new material to make it worthwhile. That would probably mean added page count, a bigger book, and more work for the folks. honestly, I'd rather see them crank out something completely new instead of re-hashes of things they've already done. The whole point of PF was to stay close enough to 3.5 that you can convert adventures on the fly, so I really don't see how an update to the PF rules is warranted (replace Spot/Listen with Perception; add CMB/CMD to statblock).

That said, I wouldn't complain if they put this out. Unless it was added to a subscription, which would be highly annoying. If it weren't part of a sub, I would simply ignore it.

Received the full RotR ap due to having enough credit with Paizo when Dungeon/Dragon fell away. So even though I have them all, I'd still drop the money on buying a hardcover that updated it to Pathfinder. Hell, I'd probably buy two.

Sovereign Court

I would be all over a Hardbound, PFRPG version of Rise of the Runelords AND Curse of the Crimson Throne.

Conversion is either tedious and easy, or infuriating blase. Eitherway, I would pay to have the adventure path all in one book. Savage Tide also would appeal to myself and my players.

Grand Lodge

I own the originals, have never played through it, and would buy an updated hardcover without a second thought.

Just realized I didn't put my own 2 cents in when I posted the quote *lol*

I am completely for this. I only have pdfs of RotRL, and would love print editions, but I am not willing to go to an online auction to pay $70+ for a used copy of the first issue!

Want.

I started collecting from Curse of the Crimson Throne onwards. A Rise of the Runelords collectors edition updated to PFRPG would be the bee's knees and cat's pajamas.

I'd buy it. : )

If it isn't part of a subscription (which does make sense), free access to the pdf for Adventure Path subscribers would still be appreciated.

Having said that, I imagine that the Rise of the Runelords messageboard will be awash with support for this book in any case. Not exactly an unbiased sample. ; )

Presumably, there are no further "Ultimate Class" books before this theoretical exercise after Ultimate Combat, it would be a PRIME AP when retooled to showcase the entire PRPG line of goodies. Core Book, Bestiaries 1, 2 and/or 3, the Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic and Ultimate Combat materials, all between one lovely set of hardcovers and referencing all the "classic fantasy campaign spun to PRPG" goodies that could be shoehorned into the tome.

I would definitely buy any AP's that Paizo decided to sell in collected hardcover form. Totally loved the Shackled City hardcover and would really like to see more AP's (both PF and pre-PF) compiled into hardcover.

I would by this one also. For me it do not have to be hardcover but a revised version for PFRPG in the used way APs are done would be really enough.

+1 to a ROTR hardcover.

Awesome idea.

Just a note that we can't produce pre-Pathfinder AP products as WotC owns all the rights to those. Runelords is the first we could do.

I like the idea, kind of, but I think its too early right now.

There are extensive RotR stat conversions on www.pfsrd.com, and with .pdf RotR IS available very much right now.

So, to PLAY, no one would need the HC RotR. To OWN, and put into ones shelve, okay that would be nice.

But I think just now there are so much things in PF and Golarion left to explore that the people at paizo really shouldn't direct their efforts at reworking RotR.

I am aware of that from another post. Quite unfortunate, would really love Age of Worms and Savage Tide hardcover. Just a wish, and maybe a hope, if not a realistic one.

Silver Crusade

I think if they did it like they did the shackled city, with the separate books of maps in the back and changes like that it would sell well.

I just placed a bid on ebay for the ROTRL AP, I think there a lot of people who do not own this product because they did not here about it till it was out of print. This would add to the people buying the hardcover edition.

And introducing it in pathfinders birthday, it would sell even better.

Maybe this would be the time to introduce new iconic characters. Like a male paladin and a new female fighter.

I would certainly buy it, though looking at the softcovers on my shelf I've gotta say that would be a thick book! Regardless, I'd buy the thing, and not just because it would allow me to dump out a binder full of conversion stuff:)

Add me to the "will buy" list. RotR and KM are my two all time favorite APs.
I would also buy CotCT but I'd settle for Runelords for now ;) .

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Since I started PF with KM coming up, I have a hard time acquiring the missing issues #1, #3, #5. sigh

So count me in! RotRL hardcover - wouldn't be the first time for a $50 shipping fee.

Ruyan.

I love the idea of that, and I'd definitely buy it!

I didn't realize what pure gold RotRL is when it first came out so I don't own a copy of Burnt Offerings which, here in Germany, is sold at ridiculously high prices (around 100$). Even though I am currently playing in a RotRL campaign I would buy a reprint or anthology the moment it came out. I'd only hesitate to spend 50 bucks on shipping for a hardcover but should it become available at amazon or in my FLGS a major gap in my collection would be filled in a heartbeat.

70€ / 100$ is the amazon marketplace price, these prices are almost always completely ridiculous.

BTW:
Was the number of printed copies of RotR ever disclosed by paizo?

Don't think so, I don't think Paizo has ever released numbers for anything they have sold.

True and true but if you look for Burnt Offerings on ebay you won't find anything significantly cheaper as most of the auctions (which are rare enough by themselves) are from the US ebay and shipping is a factor.
