Glad you are back, we had to sacrifice several of our unused aliases to keep the campfire burning. Now if I could only get those old aliases to stop showing up on the list every time I post something I would be much happier.

Welcome back. Try to find some minions for the unpacking and hurry with the updates as I am still expecting to be offline for much of the next week ;-)

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

I finally quit dragging a$$ and finished up the last course I had an 'Incomplete' in, should just barely be getting an A. Now to enjoy the rest of my summer :)

Well done Bree!

Despite my 'enjoyment' of learning TESOL, I am signing up for my next four units of study - aiming to complete my Grad Dip Mgmt. If I manage to get that done it means I'll have done 2/3 of my Masters.

I miss University... I had a 5 day weekend in my last year of study...

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Thanks guys :) Major kudos to you, Shifty.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Yeah I'm an addict of lifelong learning, reckon you must be the same Bree :)

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

I am though I am kind of feeling that I could use a break. I got a late start on it all, but I really do enjoy the challenge and the rewards that come with the effort and hard work.

I would go back to school if I could. But my family seems to like things like heat in the winter and food on the table. Bah.

If I were ever to go back to school... it would be for something like this.

Utterly useless for work, but completely interesting to me :)

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Actually, I did some semesters of medieval history, before I decided to become a teacher - not a good thing to earn money though :)

VC - Sydney, Australia

Yeah personal interest is the best rationale for learning :)

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Agreed :)

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

Perhaps one could make a (humble) living with medieval history/archeology in Münster. At least it seems every time somebody digs a hole there, an archeologist with knowledge of medieval history is needed before whatever work can be completed...

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Isn't that always the same guy they call then?

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

That guy is making a living. His mooks (and as soon as there is more then one construction site he needs his mooks) are making the humble living. ;-)

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

So if this guy gets attacked his mooks are gonna die first? In Münster? That's horrible - and who could attack them? Jan Josef Liefers in his Porsche?...

By the way, anyone interested iN Confrontation IV pre paint minis?

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

Axel Prahl is in Münster more often than his 'colleague' and I am sure he is as dangerous on his bicicle than Jan Josef Liefers in his Porsche...
I wouldn't worry too much, though- Münsters crime rate might be high, but most of those crimes are bicicle-thefts.

Albeit, if they are going to dig too deep one day I am sure the mooks will be the first to perish. You better stay a teacher ;-)

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

I was just interested in the Porsche, not so much in the less than glorious death!

I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed that Bilbo and Kessan are still not back - sigh.

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

I see, I, too would take a Porsche over a less than glorious death any time...

I would have loved to do archaeology in Europe. So much history compacted in a small space.

I am a trained archaeologist here in the US. But it is indeed a job for the young. Very few good jobs to grow into. Mostly the colleges are spitting out young diggers. You do it for a number of years before finding another profession with a little more stability. I saw many parts of the US, in particular every corner of the US southwest, ate many interesting local cuisines, drank lots of local brewed beer (and other spirits), BUT was living on the road way too much, sleeping in strange places, eating bad local food, and always on the hunt for the next project (I had worked for probably 20 different companies in that span).

I burned out after 15 years. I had fun and met my wife, but am glad to leave it all behind. I used my field mapping experience to get into GIS mapping and remote sensing.

My wife went the whole way and got her Ph.D. But trying to get an academic job involves almost as transient life as a digger. It would involve many 1-year temp positions all the while hunting for the very few actual positions that might open up each year (with fewer opening each year as universities start to rely on fewer and fewer tenured professors). We decided neither of us wanted to keep moving around the country, so she got out too and is now an environmental lawyer.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

I am sure I am going to regret this, but here is the Temple of Elemental Evil Recruitment thread - have fun.

Temple of Elemental Evil Recruitment.

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

When I started back at school it was with the idea of personal enrichment that I could also turn into a job. I'm the type of person that if I'm not interested in something, sadly I just cannot stick with it for long at all. Even though some parts of the classes I'm taking for Sociology can get boring, all in all I'm really enjoying the classes. Hopefully when all is said and done, they'll help me to get a real life job too :P

Tirion--trying to decide if I (Vaughn/Bofus) am ready/willing to participate in another campaign. If I am, I'll post in the recruitment thread!

Good on you for living the dream for a while at least Meowzebub... I did my four year tour of duty getting my Bachelor of Engineering then ploughed straight into the workforce. Job is interesting enough in parts... but is hardly anything I'll miss when I retire years from now.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

does anyone know if you can use touch of destiny:

At 1st level, you can touch a creature as a standard action, giving it an insight bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws equal to 1/2 your sorcerer level (minimum 1) for 1 round. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

to manipulate caster level checks?

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

By RAW, no, but as a GM I would allow to houserule it (Caster Level checks are only used for overcoming SR as far as I recall, so it wouldn't come close to breaking anything)

VC - Sydney, Australia

I say newp. It doesnt say CL check there.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

In this case the CL check is made to see if the knock spell overcomes an arcane lock.

VC - Sydney, Australia

By RAW it doesn't explicitly say so, however I concur with Feytharns point :)

Dungeon Master

Ultimately I would decide whether it fits the story or not. Perhaps my approach is too much in the way of letting the story override the rules.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

The creator of modern role playing, Gary Gygax, stated in the first AD&D DM Guide - the rules are guidelines, the goal is to have fun. Or something to that extent.

Male Orc Expert 5

By raw no. No it does not.

And caster lvl checks are used for more things than spell resistance.

Dungeon Master

Folks, we have been missing Bilbo, our healer, in Heroes of Elsir Vale. It is a combination homebrew mixed in with James Jacob's Red Hand of Doom. This campaign is a great game that has been going on for about a year and a half and you are all familiar with the players, (Vaughn Elliot, Tirion, Flofer, and even Zyren played in it for a while). However, I think the time has come in this game when we need to replace Bilbo. Are any of you interested in playing a cleric, or a healing oracle in this campaign?

Puts hand up and smiles... I've had a chat with Tirion, and have a half-elf witch concept that might plug the gap?

you konw, I have UMD jacked up, it's almost high enough to use wands reliably. Maybe Bofus can be the healer too! :-)

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Witches are good healers as well. No Channeling, but with the healing hex, he will be able to heal everyone 2d8+6 every day.

I'd probably take Hedge Witch as an archetype too - which allows for spontaneous cures... plus Cauldron hex for potions, etc :)

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Every time that I submit a witch, I consider Hedge Witch and have not chosen it yet. It is the balance between losing a hex and being able to spontaneously cast. I have yet to be able to justify it, but many people love it, especially for a healer focused witch.

The hex I really want is Cook People - it is just too cool (and REALLY evil). I submitted an evil Witch to the WoW campaign but did not make it into yours (you were choosing new people for that campaign) or Xzaral's campaign.

Dungeon Master

Mark, you would be most welcome. Come on over and we can chat.

Heroes of Elsir Vale OOC Discussion

This gives us:

Halfling Rogue
Gnome Sorcerer
Dwarven Ranger
Human Paladin

and now a Half Elf Witch.

If anyone else wants to play another character in our game, please come over and I'll consider your proposal. Thanks!

Excellent good - I'll check in shortly :)

Thanks for having me.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

We also need players! :)

Actually we need someone for Heart of Light and Heart of Runes - I guess you all know all of the players already, cool people, you always wanted to game with :)

Male Pale Master

what roles do you need filled for each of those?

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

For HOL we have:

Wizard
Paladin
Bard
Witch

so we need Kabal....:)

In HOR we have:

Rogue/Cavalier
Paladin
Bard
Cleric

I guess they would like a support character at their side.
