Nope, starting guns are Pistol, Musket or Blunderbuss.
Well, hold on a minute.
We've got the generic cut-and-paste-from-playtest-one full page sidebar, detailing the Pistol, the Musket, and basic firearms rules - basically what appears in the Inner Sea Guide. This full page sidebar does not mention "blunderbuss", and so is clearly not what we are supposed to be referencing for Gunslinger Starting Gun.
We've also got an expanded weapon table that's probably more or less what we'll see in the final book. This table does not mention either a "Pistol" or am "Axe Musket"; it mentions multiple kinds of pistols and a kind of musket, but neither of the generic versions are presented, so, again, it's clearly not what we are supposed to be referencing.
Since this is a playtest and things have to be grabbed from multiple places, the separate layouts are understandable, so I'm not trying to nit-pick. But it does make the definition of "pistol" or "musket" rather vague.
Given that a Gunslinger can start with a Blunderbuss (2,000) gold, I so no harm in letting her choose instead to start with an Axe Musket (1600) or a Musket (1500) or a Double Pistol (1750) or a Dragon Pistol (1500) or a Pistol (1000) or a Coat Pistol (500). As long as she only gets one, and as long as it's subject to the "only 4d10 gold value" rule, I see no harm in letting any of these weapons in, nor do I think the final version of the Gunslinger should restrict these options.

can a Gunslinger choose an Ax musket as his starting gun?
The Playtst 2 document says "blunderbuss, musket, or pistol".
1) Logically, you can extend this basic statement to include any firearm with "pistol" or "musket" in its name. Of course, it's up to final DM arburation. i'd allow it.
2) Because it is a playtest, I would suspect that the gunslinger will end up getting to choose any early firearm as her first gun. Aside from cost, they all function pretty much the same. Even a pepperbox, which, with the rules as written now, still only allows the same rate of fire as any other gun, it just has a higher capacity. That would be one really good change since the gunslinger has such a narrow focus as it is. I say let the player choose any early firearm she/he wants to create a build of their choice.

Its in the actual document in the first class feature listed after weapon and armor proficiency. That being said I think you make a good point and would probably allow any firearm the character wanted.
