And on top of it all they expected 4 people to blow off 44 two or three car garage driveways by ourselves. I told them no and went back to the shop.
So, now I'm home, my back is sore, and I'm pretty pissed off.
On the plus side, everyone on my crew did an awesome job despite the near constant breakage and b%!@!@+%.
The kids keep talking about moving somewhere it snows. I say, "Then you'd have to shovel it."
"We wouldn't mind!"
"After the fifth or sixth snowfall? Yes, yes you would..."
And the magic of new snow wears off pretty quick, as it gets muddy, slushy, and yellow.
Got a friend in Canada or the northeast? Send the kids on a 'winter wonderland' vacation, with explicit instructions to the friend that they're to do all the shoveling. :D

I finally got to look through the last book of Agents of Edgewatch, it's definitely going on my list of least favorite APs (it's not bad per se, just not my thing).
Edit: Great, now my thing is showing! Life became Cyberpunk 2077 so quickly I hardly noticed.
Agents of Edgewatch doesnt excite me at all.
Fly free or die however............

So John le Carré has died. Yes, he had a long life, but he was still writing and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold is one of my favorite books of all time.
Can this year just be over already?

"The Dragon And The Mouse, Pre-Christmas Time story"
Mouse suddenly stopped in its tracks.
"Batteries" thought the dragon, and pulled a spare pack from the desk's drawer bought the first time the computer arrived with its wireless logitech keyboard and mouse...
"For f**k's sake!" exclaimed dragon after opening the mouse, though, for the mouse used different batteries than the keyboard...
"Great, now I will have to go to shop not far in the future..." grumbled the dragon while temporarily borrowing the laptop's mouse.

Ah. I so need to get my 2021 plans together.
You want an idea for evil? Go to Drejk's apartment and ensure that all of his battery-operated devices use different batteries. This may be tricky, you might have to custom build some things to use non-standard batteries, but it would certainly be evil.

There wouldn't be a lot of work to finish it.
Laptop uses its own proprietary battery/accumulator.
Phone and tablet have built-in batteries.
Keyboard uses AAA
Mouse uses AA
...
Wall clock uses... I don't really remember, probably AA but it's been dead for years now.
And that's it. I don't think there are any other working battery-operated devices around here.

No flashlight? Smoke / Carbon Monoxide detectors? Remote control for TV/radio? I bet we could fix that clock and make it run off a 6 volt lantern battery.

Nope*. Nope. Nope.
*I use eithe the phone, or occassionally, a hand-held, solar-charged usb powerbank.
There could be some long forgotten flashlight somewhere in the house, or more likely in the cellar.

I don't know if I'll be teaching my classes this morning, or not. Most Google apps are down due to a "known server issue", and everything my school does runs from the G-Suite platform.
I can only imagine the mess your having to deal with. For a place of education it's amazing how schools never learn how to adapt.

Yeah I think they tend to have a back-up battery for if the power goes out. I didn't even think they made them now a days without that.

I'm hoping it stays down for a few hours and we get the technological equivalent of a snow day.

Life finds a way.
Is it even necessary to have formal classes meeting everyday? Couldn't they just be assigned reading and test to make sure they are doing the reading. Then allow them to message you with questions?
Ok so maybe some math and science I could see needing explanations beyond the book though.

Nope. Those are not common around here, at least not in housing buildings that were not built in the last few years.
They might occur more often in public and buisness buildings.

So do you not have a smoke detector, or do you have the 10 year sealed one?

She teaches *little* kids. There's no way they can be turned loose for an independent study day. They're either in class or they aren't.

Grumpy Old Man Peeve of the Week: Video announcements
Both Global Megacorporation and Albany High School send out their announcements in the form of "cute, enthusiastic" videos where two overly-excited people gush about how wonderful everything is, and here are the announcements for the week. The videos range from 3-5 minutes long.
For a handful of announcements that would take half of a single sheet of paper in bullet point form.
Sorry, I have better things to do than watch your hyped up, chipper video. If you have important announcements for me, put them in text form so I don't have to waste minutes of my life watching horrifically cheerful people read the news to me. That's my own personal little Hell.

That, and I work for a private school, so parents expect content in exchange for their tuition dollars.
This morning, I put on a stuffed fuzzy Bullwinkle Moose hat for my online phonics lesson, because one of our letters this week is M.
It was either that or stage a murder in my living room.

One person's hopeful, cheer-up attempt of "sounds like someone's got a case of the MON-DAYS!" is another person's sarcastic meme. The hyped video-announcements are trying to take minor info but put a smiley face on it. That's not for you. Got it.
Some folks want that cheer. Some folks respond positively to the saccharine updates. You're not one of those folks.
