If you need a loan, don't expect a mathematician to cosine it.

Edit: Don't expect him to wear pants either.

Why did the mathematician work from home? He could only function in his own domain.

A man goes to a costume party with a naked woman on his back. The host asks "What are you supposed to be?" The man says "I'm a turtle." The host says angrily "What a load of rubbish! How can you be a turtle when all you have is a naked lady on your back?" The man smiles and says "That's Michelle."

MS08th Team and Iron Blood Orphans are also good. Although, I've only watched the first season of Iron Blood Orphans, so it's possible it went downhill.

Not sure what the UC Gundam is. Frankly, all the Gundam I've seen is Wing, 08th Team, Iron Blood Orphans, and a little of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. And I only watched a little of the original series because I didn't care for it.

I'm including Endless Waltz in Wing, of course. And I do have a Gundam live action movie, G-Saviour, but I haven't watched it in forever so I don't recall my feelings towards it. Probably didn't like it that much if I haven't watched it in 10 years or more despite it sitting on my shelf.

I assumed I wasn't on the list for several reasons already. Such as my feelings of warmth towards Joss Whedon and Alton Brown.

The world is in mourning today as the news has reported that Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer has died. He was flying over Barcelona when he was involved in a mid-air collision with a flock of seagulls and a Boeing 747. Authorities have stated that the Reindeer in Spain was hit mainly by the plane.

I half caught the reference. What was the original thing like? Something about the rain in Spain maybe?

The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plains. From My Fair Lady? I think.

I feel like I unlocked a real life achievement yesterday. "A/C Repairman". I got home yesterday morning and my house was very warm. After fiddling with the thermostat for a while, I determined it was borked. So I bought a new one, installed it, and it has been working nicely for almost 24 hours now. Yay me!

So, something happened a couple of months ago, and I just realized it this morning.
Back in April, I took my kids to Silicon Valley Comic Con, mostly so my daughter could meet Dr. Crusher and my son could see Buzz Aldrin. And they cosplayed and we looked at lots of artists booths and I got to meet almost *everyone* I loved from Sesame Street when I was a kid, and Mister McFeeley from Mister Rogers Neighborhood to boot, and it was awesome.

But while we were standing at the row of Sesame Street booths, a man started talking to me. Middle aged, shortish, a bit roundish, pleasant-faced... you know, kind of like the love child of Nobody's Home and Jerry Mathers. And he asked me why the kids and I were at Comic Con, what we enjoyed about it, what the big draws were for us. And we chatted a bit.
Then he casually mentioned, "Ya know, Adam West and Burt Ward are here, too."
"Yeah, I know," I said. "That's so cool. I liked the show. But, to be honest, I probably wouldn't know the guys if I bumped into them on the street."
He said, "Yeah, me too, I guess," and chuckled, and changed the subject.

So Netflix just added the entire Batman series and I was looking it up this morning because we're thinking about introducing the kids to it, and I remembered this conversation, and did some googling, and that guy?
He was Burt Ward.

Embarrassed.

Then I'm pretty sure you'll have to leave me a card. I don't think I've received a card in years. I might get one from my mom, but I've slowly trained her to not send me cards for any holidays. I just throw them away after reading them. And it's really a waste of postage since we see each other at least once every few weeks anyways. So, if I get 0 cards, and you steal 1, that leaves me at -1 cards, so you would have to leave me a card. BOOM MATH'D!

I have never in my life mailed Christmas cards. I always mean to and I always forget or blow it off.

Tell ya what.
Anyone who sends me their address gets Christmas cards this year, just for the random fun of it. I will try to make them silly and geeky.

But, if it keeps one Christmas card with a posed photograph of people I can barely tolerate out of my house I'll make that sacrifice.

Oh, gods. Government bureaucracies, how I hate them!

We're renewing the kids' passports for... reasons. So I have to admit, I haven't tried to renew a (recently-expired) passport since 9/11, so maybe things have changed quite a bit.

But it used to be, "Show up at the counter with your old passport and a new photo, pay the exorbitant fee, and be done."
The old passport was considered the best-possible ID you could have, since you had to jump through so many hoops to get it.

But now it's, "We need their birth certificates, a valid photo ID from you (that isn't a passport), two pages of random paperwork... EACH, AND some exorbitant fees! Oh! And they HAVE to be here IN PERSON to renew! That 'renewal by mail' thing is SO passe!"

So... I understand having massive proof-of-ID requirements to get your initial passport. But if I'm standing there in person at the counter with the passport you issued me a few years ago, why do I have to re-prove my ID to you?

  • If the passports are so easily-forgeable that you need to re-prove everything, then what good is all that "proof"?
  • If the passports really are "forgery-proof", then why do you need me to re-prove everything?
  • I don't mind bureaucracy when it makes sense. When it's busywork that is obviously unnecessary and/or redundant, I get uppity.

... I've still got internet bad enough that I'm hoping this goes through... fifth times the charm!
