Speaking of coffee... I can't stand sugar in my coffee. It's all kinds of wrong flavor wise. Thou shalt NOT mix bitter and sweet.
I usually take my coffee black, unless it's really s++@ty coffee, in which case I'll add a bit of half-and-half. On occasion, I'll have black coffee with a shot of whiskey and a pinch of sugar mixed in.

I am in peppermint hell... A nice guy at work bought me a peppermint mocha from Starbucks and it was good for about 1/4 of the cup. After that the peppermint flavoring grew SO strong that it's all I can taste... Like being force fed a heaping pile of peppermint in every sip. I don't want to make him sad that I am no longer liking it... Do you think he will notice if I don't finish?
Just add some peppermint schnapps. You won't be able to taste anything after a few good slugs.

This suggestion is made of wrong.not only does it sound like a horrible idea to add peppermint to a drink that has way too much already, but I am what they like to call a cheap date, and it would be a bad idea to be drunk at work.

There's probably something wrong with me for thinking that pretty girls drinking PBR is the norm.

The time may have passed, but I would just keep it close by for about an hour and then toss it. He would assume you've finished it.

It is too bad you don't have an Ambrosia Slaad nearby. I hear she is totes addicted to just about anything peppermint. It's kinda disgusting to watch her happily munch her way through a box of stale candy canes. Peppermint + coffee + chocolate = Ambrosia crack

Well, here we go: Perhaps the most ludicrously over-the-top Serpent's Skull session run by anyone over 18. No fewer than five of the major NPCs from the book are involved, along with 7+ players (an 8th never shows up), including one who happens to be torn in half at the moment, but the group is trying to race 1080 feet back to base camp carrying her corpse while fleeing from the bad guy so they can get an in-combat rez.
Yes, they honestly think the combat is going to last for another 100+ rounds.
Considering this is the third session in a row with this combat running, it may well.
And boy, is it fun!!!

I do have a plan to leave a trail of peppermints from ambys house to mine.
Fun fact- my phone autocorrects Amby to ambush. Which may be what happens at the end of the trail of peppermints, who knows.

Why does "I like <any movie by Stanley Kubrick>" so often seem to just come with an automatic corollary, "and am therefore intellectually superior to everyone else, unless you agree that interpretive nonsense is the pinnacle of genius"?
I mean, the guy is a skilled movie maker, and his films can be (limited though it may be) used for a minor bit of mental stimulation. But it seems that all-too-often folk take that as liscence to declare that anything has a more definitive answer as "inferior" - it's really kind of sad, and looks an awful lot like a mental form of a personal activity being celebrated in public rather than any actual superiority.
I will say that 2001: A Space Odyssy has some really test music, and a solid story (at least until it tries to go artsy and hyper-navel-gazing at the end which is... fine, but definitively neither the pinnacle of intellectual cinema nor as satisfying as just writing an actual ending).
This came up because I was wandering what others thought of the irritating ending to Fran Bow (not a game for you, Orthos), and so often Kubrick's name comes up as an excuse/defense for having a half-complete or ultra-vague ending. It's... innane. Enjoy it as you like, sure, that's fine: doesn't stop me from falling out a story that purposefully invalidates any kind of cohesive conclusion as "feeling lazy to me" and "irritating".
Of course, I also tend to hate those films and stories where the bad guys are made out to be "heroes" - it's even worse when they get away with it and the film celebrates this fact, but it's exceptionally frustrating to follow a story and watch the protagonist just... die or fail. Great. Excellent way to spend my time.
Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Hey: anyone play Blue Rose RPG? If so, does anyone know about Jarzon's map in World of Aldea?
Also, if you like Kristen Brittain (Green Rider series), I'm pretty sure you will like BR. I was reminded recently (by glancing at the cover of GR and its sequels in B&N) that they're basically the same setting (in a generic sort of way), save that BR has psychic animals (which don't seem to be there in the first Green Rider book, to my recollection).

2001 ending ALMOST made sense to me, if I tried really hard, (cue burning wood smell) At least I could justify it and it sounded good to me. Having never read the book I can't confirm if my guess was even close to what was intended. :/
But I read the sequel(s) and I'm pretty sure my guess was close. :)
Oh, and I enjoyed the movie, even as a youngster. :)
Having seen Clockwork Orange, all I can say about it is; once was enough.
:P
Not sure I've even seen anything else of Kubrick's that I can recall.
Although I've certainly seen the attitude that Tacticslion mentioned above. Sheesh. ;P

Tacticslion |

2001 was made from the book, and ended the same way. Unlike the book, however, it was not possible for the movie to explain the ending, which the book did in detail, and there was nobody else to talk to. Cue something that looks incomprehensible.
It doesn't help that Kubrick made it sliiiightly different and then actively refused to give information while expressly wanting everyone to guess wildly to come up with their own ideas. I have several. That's nice. I'd now like an actual end to the story.
Never watched 2001. Or any Kubrick film, off the top of my head.
Edit: Yep, closest I got was the boot camp part of FMJ.
Ugh, that's another thing: Full Metal Jacket was awful, as was Clockwork Orange. I hated everyone in those films. Watched them all the way through. Kiiiiiiinda wish I hadn't. It was painful and a waste of time and mental fortitude. "Oh it's edgy and insightful and unlike other films" - no, really? Probably because the people in it are awful and the point can be made far better with a different film." Kubrick has great attention to detail, a phenomenal understanding of color (and its use in film), and a great eye for style. His fascination with the macabre and ugly side of people is not something I share.
EDIT: Ragadolf: yeah, CO was probably the worst. Blech.

I've always wanted to ask Ermey if he would have treated such a situation any different than Hartman. One of my Army buddies figured that he was doing exactly what he would have done in real life, been the big dick in charge and not back down, because that's how the command structure works. The only question is would the recruit have gone through with it like in the movie.

Have to pretty much agree with you here. (Forgot Kubrick did FMJ, Kinda glad I never finished it now) ;P
I think your last statement sums up nicely why I don't enjoy his movies. (2001 may be an exception)
It's not that they aren't well MADE movies, but yeah, i go to movies to get AWAY from the stuff I see on the news, not watch an in-depth character portrayal of a why the phycho-robber-killer is the way he is. ;P

My favorite director is Michael Bay. His movies just really get you thinking. He just needs to do a movie with Jason Statham so we can get real emotional performances. Something original...maybe where he's corrupt law enforcement?
This Will be called Transformers: Passion of the Transporter. I'm assuming it'll be 2 hours of explosions and chase scenes with a half hour of Megan Fox and Optimus Prime erotically torturing Jason Statham seemingly tacked on at the end.

Actually, I like Statham movies for what they are. Mindless butt kicking from a British guy. I secretly imagine he's many versions of the same dude in alternative universes, a-la Jet Li in The One. In genuinely disappointed he won't be in Transporter 4. Quite a dumb idea.
That being said, I recognize it for the drivel it is. My Y chromosome insists I open a bag of popcorn and cheer when he spin kicks the guy who messes with his woman.
