We have verified that the distributor Amazon buys from has shipped their order, so if they don't have it yet, they will soon.
My experience has led me to believe that if Amazon doesn't have inventory as the official release date approaches, they'll push their own release date back arbitrarily... but once their inventory arrives, they'll release it whether or not their new arbitrary date has passed.

Something's fishy with Amazon and B2. A friend of mine just got an email that the book won't be released, so his order was cancelled too .. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ?
Funnily enough, the British amazon shipped one copy to another pal of mine ... but now they're waiting for a restock.
Lesson for everybody is: Amazon blows goat balls as far as buying new RPG books goes :)

Actually, they were quite speedy with the APG and GMG... and I got them for a reduced price.
It just seems to be the bestiary 2 that's the problem.

This has been my experience with Amazon.ca as well. Everything has arrived in a timely fashion, from the core book and APs, on down. The Bestiary 2 is the first problem/delay that I have had to date.
Similarly to a poster above I received an email informing me they were having trouble obtaining the book and that I could cancel my order. I have declined there "offer". ;)
If I lived south of the border, I would most likely do all my buying directly from Paizo via subscription. Alas, the free shipping, discounted price, lack of currency conversion costs and potential customs snags has kept me from doing so. Of course that might change if the B2 is the beginning of a trend. I have a large number of Paizo books pre-ordered and I don't want to wait unnecessarily for any/all of them! ;)
Cheers

Folks,
After a lot of investigation, it looks like there was a hiccup between our book trade distributor and Amazon, made worse by the holiday. (Specifically, their software showed as "shipped" and order that was not, in fact, "shipped".) We're in the process of tracking it down and we hope a resolution will be forthcoming shortly.
We'll let you know when to expect the book on Amazon.com as soon as we know more details ourselves.

I also live in Canada and have a number of Paizo subscriptions. I have found that the international shipping does cost a little more, but the free PDF makes up for the difference nicely. (I like having a searchable digital copy.) There is rarely any duty to pay, unless the order is particularly large (over $100 or so).
Even with the slightly longer shipping time to Canada, I usually get my orders at the same time or slightly before the FLGS gets their stock.
Of course, YMMV.
Lord oKOyA |
While admittedly the PDFs would be nice (and I have bought a few), it does come down to added cost in the end. If the choice is 3 books with PDFs and 4 books without PDFs I am usually going to go with the latter.
Additionally, I usually purchase many of the books in multiples of 2 to 6 copies (for everyone in our gaming group) and as such my orders routinely reach into the hundreds of dollars. Given that, even a little bit extra adds up quickly.
I'm not saying that I wouldn't purchase directly from Paizo, just that I haven't yet... if things with Amazon worsen... well I'll cross that bridge when and if that happens.
I appreciate the information and experience you have shared NoStrings.
Cheers!

Vic and Co,
I know that you have little influence on Amazon release dates, but FYI Bestiary II just got pushed from Jan 4th to Jan 18th. You might want to nudge them about that, if that can help :)
Looks like the same thing is going on with the Inner Sea Map Folio now; projected release of 7/12.

I wouldn't worry about that Inner Sea Map Folio date... I think it falls into this category:
My experience has led me to believe that if Amazon doesn't have inventory as the official release date approaches, they'll push their own release date back arbitrarily... but once their inventory arrives, they'll release it whether or not their new arbitrary date has passed.
The Inner Sea Map Folio hasn't had a firm retail release date set, because it's not in our warehouse yet, but we're currently anticipating arrival in mid-February... so the retail release date could likely be the first Wednesday in March.

I swear I'm not a cheap dirtbag. I was ordering some stuff for Christmas, but not quite enough to get free shipping, so I went ahead and added the Bestiary 2 pre-order. I figured, hey, no rush, my game is on hiatus right now anyway. But now I'm going nuts, because I can't even read it unless I slink, guiltily, into the FLGS to peruse it.
Can't do a subscription, money is too tight.
Thanks, Paizanos, for looking into the issue. You rock!

I agree that the Paizo subs (I really want searchable PDFs) are a very good deal and you get to support the company. As I live in the UK I go to Amazon for the sam reasons as Lord oKOyA does in Canada. That being said the only problems I've had with amazon.co.uk have been the inner sea primer and bestiary 2 both of which are because they were obviously popular items on pre order in the run up till christmas. My ISP is now on its way but B2 isn't back in stock yet.

I pre-ordered both the Core Rulebook and (IIRC) the APG through Amazon, and my experience is that I find myself reading posts on these boards for 1-2 weeks about how cool it is before I get mine. Heck, I even thought there might be an agreement with Paizo to release it to them later so as to compete less with local game stores. But no. Just Amazon.
On a side note, I have a Prime membership at Amazon and love it. Totally worth the price if you find yourself making small orders frequently. I tend to get my PF books through them, and buy my board games (which my family buys LOTS of) through the FLGS.

Follow up: We encouraged our distributor to overnight copies of Bestiary 2 to Amazon, but apparently Amazon won't take deliveries—they only do pickup, and that means they won't have it until the end of next week.

Update: Amazon has decided to do a special pickup just for Bestiary 2, so hopefully they'll be able to ship them early next week.

Crap. I rely heavily on Amazon for all of my literary needs since I am stationed over seas and they do not charge me an arm and a leg to ship to an APO address. ::Sigh:: but this means I will have to wait even longer for my book. However props to you guys for actually giving a hoot and tracking down the problem! ;)

As a Christmas treat, I naively ordered the new inner sea setting when I noticed it was available at amazon,uk. Got a dispatch date before about 15th Jan too! Then I found it wasn't even printed yet.
Am not happy!
I'd cancel the order and wait till they've actually got stock except for the fear it'll sell out too quickly.

Best thing about subscribing. I don't have to pay attention to anything,(well, my account-balance..) and occationally some paizo goodness drops into my mailbox. (I live in Norway)
The only annoying thing atm, is that I discovered Paizo way too late, so now I don't have PDF's of the stuff I've bought that was released before I started my subscriptions :/

Imagine being in New Zealand! I put my copy on Preorder from NZs biggest Online book seller and they have pushed me back to the 24th, I put the preorder in back in Early November! lol.
Being in NZ suxs sometimes...
The subscription shipments may cost more than even online bookstores, but they're pretty quick to Auckland most of the time. The shipment with Bestiary 2 was about a week in transit for me. The free PDF and (usually) quick shipping make up for the added cost IMO.
I'm not saying that it's always that fast from Paizo - the Bestiary 2 poster took 37 days for example, but it's usually faster for me than waiting for some of the other online vendors to get their stock and ship, judging by the comments made on these forums.

Yeah, I have decided to just man up and buy it direct next time, I had to buy the PDF direct when it came out as I was hoping to use the book for a 16 hour mmarathyon game I ran for the lads over the Xmas break.
Al good, It wil get here, I dont need it till next month anyway, The Kapcon RPG Con down here in Wgtn is on and so delays my normal game. lol

Well, just got another note from Amazon UK saying that the latest shipping date for Bestiary 2 (Jan 15th) can't be met, and they'll be getting back to me later with a new range of dates.
Oh well!
I'm waiting for B2 too from Amazon UK.
I've not had that email, but just logged in to see my order and it says despatch estimate 28th to 17th Jan !!!!

Well, Amazon Japan has just notified me today that the most recent shipping date (Jan. 26-28) for my order of the Bestiary 2 (which I had placed around about April LAST YEAR) cannot be met because is is now TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK (after being told that they DID have stock at the beginning of the week...) - but, no worries, they'll get back to me (eventually) when they do get stock again...
SIGH...
Guess I might get it sometime just before March, hopefully...

I had a flick through B2 at my FLGS this afternoon in Glasgow, Scotland - now wondering what Amazon UK's problem is?....
