I have to say, after thumbing through Gnomes of Golarion at the FLGS I bought it on an impulse, read it as soon as I got home, and a few days later when it came time to make characters to start our Kingmaker campaign, I went with a Gnome sorcerer.

I haven't regretted it one bit, the Paizo guys (and gals) did a great job of making Gnomes worth keeping around, rather than just the "con bonus instead of dex" Halflings status they previously held.

Gnomes are awesome!!!

If you played BECMI D&D, then you would be playing them as Kender.

With Paizo's re-write of gnomes, they're probably the MOST interesting PC race. Elves and dwarves are basically the same as they always have been.

I generally discount halflings altogether, because they've always been boring as hell. In 0E-2E, they were Bilbo Baggins, only without a cool artifact. In 3.X, they became a bland kender-lite race.

Alright people, how do those people who hate gnomes feel about halflings? how do those that love gnomes feel about them? One of the things that I thought when I first joined the game was how similar the two small races were, aside from stats.

For me, Halfings have always been wanderers, traders and explorers. ( you've seen what i think of gnomes above)

I have stated what I thought about halflings, most boring, uninteresting race ever.

Just one or two more options; if you don't like them, deep six them, if you do then go for it.

Personally I can't get that excited or upset about imaginary little people.

Never had a problem with gnomes, enjoyed them in all settings. I enjoyed Dark Sun as well and remember one adventure had you visit a gnome ruin that ghostly images of the creatures.

Firbolgs however... when the Complete Book of Humanoids came out a lot of our group caught Firbolg Fever. They even went as far to ignore several of their hinderances.

Ahhhhh...you just remembered me that I hate them SOOO MUCH, they all deserve not to die, but to be erased retroactively from history to not be remembered by anyone never, anything gnome related destroyed, burned, and anihilated, until anything in the earth that have anything to do with gnomes is destroyed forever...that said Pathfinder gnomes are ok.

Pathfinder gnomes. Just saying :P

AD&D
T&T
Paladium
AD&D 2nd edition
D&D 3.0
D&D 3.5

Never liked gnomes. The fluff was boring. Just boring.

Then Pathfinder gnomes came about. I actually enjoyed the fluff. Made a few gnomes, and so has my group now.

The first and last time I played gnome was a wizard doing his best imitation of Dungeon Master. My party went in a narrow dungeon corridor with a human and goliath fighter. They encountered a rust monster and since my gnome was behind the formation he got trampled by the rest of the party.

I love gnomes. They did get mauled in 3e by having no real niche for themselves, and before by being a race you were practically required to play as annoying as hell.

Midnight was the first to give them a distinct personality, and Pathfinder made them totally awesome.

That said, even before, it was mostly a case of people using them as an excuse for disruptive behaviour, just like dwarves, paladins and many other options in the game - and the game did push them into that corner to some extent.

But Pathfinder gnomes are awesome, they have their own identity and niche.

They're more alien than the other standard races, especially their mindset. That can be quite interesting if you want to explore something a bit more off the beaten path. As long as you make sure not to create the kind of character everyone will come to loath in short order, they can provide astounding roleplaying opportunities.

Elves, dwarves, orcs and halflings all live in the shadow of Tolkein, and the further you get from that shadow, the more 'wrong' they look to the casual gamer.

You can do *anything* with gnomes.

Swash: Not the weirdest people I've ever woken up next to.

Pal: What was?

Swash: 4 gnomes in a dungeon... (shudder)

later....

I don't play gnomes because I just don't like them. They seem very weak and not sutible as a true player charecter race. That being said thye do make for a very interesting NPC race with strong ties to the element of earth, much like the undines to water and the salamanders to fire.

On the flip side my gameing buddy always plays a gnome or halfling just for the AC bonus because of size.

I completed Baldur's gate once using a party entirely of gnomes.

However, if you want the definition of awful then it's the BECMI halfling. Limited to 8th level and can't even backstab a ringwraith in the knee. Utterly pointless.

Honestly I love gnomes, can't get enough gnome, took the online "what DnD race are you?" quiz, said I was a gnome. I love that gnomes unlike other races tend to vary dramatically from setting to setting. I love dragonlance tinker gnomes, the creativity of making gadgets and the fun of bringing a little steampunk into generic fantasy, I love pathfinder fey-touched gnomes, the mischievous pranks and antics, I loved the flavor of 3.5 gnomes with their name collecting, I loved that trait when I played a gnome in 3.5 and would be like, "that's a lovely name, can I have it?"

Gnomes are my favorite race and the best race for creative players, I also love that you have to work harder because of your small size.

I've been a tinker gnome sorcerer, a 3.5 gnome alchemist, a pathfinder gnome monk. Each one was a unique gnome but each one was a blast.

Gnome hate is the last bastion of uncreative thinking :P

Not really Weak. THe Traditional South East Asian Dragon (NAGA) which has the body of the giant serpent and the upper portions of a Human are also elelmentals...

I think the Traditional Elemental based Gnome is simply the bottom tier of the fallout from the Success of the Temple of Elemental Evil With Naga (Dragons) at the Top.

THey all (Naga and Gnome) have the ability of Future Sight.
