If more politics involved naked pics of attractive celebs, I might become interested in politics. ;)

Durkon is for some reason just now realizing how much his childhood has influenced his adult life. The vamp seems to be unable to see the connection, possibly because he was created as a mature life form with no childhood perspective to relate to. With the airship headed into Dwarven lands, it seems like a memory or some other connection to younger Durkon will be key in either someone being alerted to Durkula's true nature or (more excitingly) Durkon exerting his control.
On a completely unrelated topic: I'm hopeful and excited to see OotS dwarves being portrayed as cool as the elves were.

Perhaps Durkon will be able to mislead Durkula by simply showing the latter half of the story as opposed to the former half. He's already shown he's comfortable telling half-truths (Defective Locks anyone?), and if the Vampire only sees the last half, completely different inferences might be made(Such as "that guy is a jerk who doesn't care that the fighter just got swallowed" as opposed to "that guy doesn't like helping people w/out permission").

To be clear, Roy's corpse had enough time to rot into nothing but a skeleton, all the raids and assaults at Azure City/Gobbotopia, and the entire journey (and sojourn, though it was relatively short) in the desert regions, as well as the journey back to the far north.
I don't recall the exact comic, but...
I think there was a comic that even said something like Roy was dead for a year or more, and he was shocked... until it was revealed that he'd lost all sense of time, having delighted in playing blocks with his brother for months, fishing with his grandfather for almost as long, and learning techniques without needing to sleep for a long time, too.

On Durkula not understanding the connection, I believe that this comes from him being unable to really understand what Good means (which is the root of Durkon's action/inaction situation). He sees nothing strange in Durkon not trying to save Roy because Durkula would not have tried to save him either.
Last note (though it actually applies to the previous strip) : Am I the only one who finds it incredibly convenient that Durkon was transformed in a powerful vampire Cleric at the precise moment when Hel needed one such pawn ?

Is Loki likely to oppose Hel's plans ? In fact, do we know Loki's alignment in this world (CE, CN, NE) ?
Loki's alignment is in Start of Darkness:
However, some of the evil gods are glad to have TDO, because they think it will shift the balance of the world towards evil. Tiamat, Rat, and Loki are explicitly called out at the gods who defended the Dark One, implying that all three are evil.
AFAIK, there hasn't been any mention of whether Loki is CE, NE, or LE.

strayshift |
The best comparison would leave Loki as a Chaotic alignment, in the Norse legends however he sometimes helps the gods so he may veer towards Neutrality, or maybe Evil, but not so when it suits him. He is the father/mother of various beasts and monsters and is a shape-shifter whose 'portfolio' definitely includes trickery and mischief. He to some degree represents those who defy the 'natural order' but is also a valued counsellor to the gods.
Alignment as a concept doesn't do him justice.

Tacticslion |

In the official 3.0 stat-up, he was CE.
If I recall, Thor is CG, and Odin NG, while Hel is NE - so far, from what I can tell, they all live up to their pre-statted alignment.
That said, Evil does not always approve of evil.
If something causes problems for them, or it's just convinient for themself for some reason, I can see an evil - even chaotic evil - choosing to do something for "team good".
Also, cool story 137. It made me think: it's interesting that there are three evil gods who banded together to help foster Team Good - one typically viewed lawful evil, and one typically viewed as chaotic evil - who teamed up to bolster team evil, and there are three fiends (of varying alignment) who happen to have formed a band to bolster Team Evil... and Tiamat only called one of them when she was furious.
That sounds suspiciously connected, though I might be grasping at straws.

Great info all. I did not put LE as a possible alignment for Loki because his Cleric was very obviously Chaotic IMO ;-)
Great idea Tactics. IIRC, Tiamat's call went to the Director (i.e., the LE fiend) = more substance for your theory ;-)
Interesting to see that Hel did not ally with the other 3 to defend TDO.

As deity of death she could probably benefit from his death... Possibly from death of other deities too. Or maybe she wants the universe to end.

I wish I could quit OotS. Two strips a month? C'mon, you can't even commit to a weekly schedule?
So, let's see..we're probably 3/4 or so through the story, which means there's 300-400 strips left, and if we get 2 per month, that's 24/year, so only another 12-17 years at this rate...
sigh
Has he commented on the slow pace?
Still related to the injury or is there something else going on?

Andostre |

I would imagine that the reason that the strips are coming so slowly is that he's still trying to meet the promises that he made for the Kickstarter.
Judging from his chart from the last KS update in August, he is still working on:
The O-Chul comic
The Thekla comic
The CPPD comic
The Dim Sum comic
The Julio Scoundrél comic
The Sir Francois comic
Various wallpapers
Various individual crayon drawings
Digital Portrait Packages (I don't even remember what these are)
2 more "seasons" of Monster Minis
Honestly, I've dropped comics that I've enjoyed for similarly slow update schedules, so I completely understand the frustration. I'm hoping that things will pick up once he gets more of the KS projects completed.

Andostre |

How much money did he make off his kickstarter? Would "enough that he doesn't need the money he gets from advertising nearly so much as he did before the kickstarter" be a safe statement?
The Kickstarter was solely to fund another printing of OotS books. Any money that he made over that amount was allocated to other projects in the Kickstarter's stretch goals. Assuming he plans on honoring those other projects (and he has for many of them so far), it seems unlikely that he would use the money to supplement advertising income. I don't think he's cutting back on the updates because he's not worried about page hits for his ads.

On twitter he indicates the new book is taking up a lot of his time.
Thanks. Hopefully once that comes out we'll get more regular updates (at least until he gets injured again, or starts another side business, or his dog eats his homework, etc.)

For the punchline, it's like he read our recent comments and decided to blow a raspberry at us.
Rich has on numerous occasions mentioned how he likes to let people predict how things are going to end and then deliberately make it not happen. Most well known being how he didn't have Miko fall to evil or get revived as some nasty undead thing, when a great many people were predicting one or the other or both.

New comic.
So, we're going for more gizmo-gnomes and less fey-like Pathfinder gnomes.

Well, it IS set in 3.5 rather than Pathfinder. Remember the comic began with the 3.0 to 3.5 changeover, and made a few oblique references to 4E's appearance when they got to the desert continent.

I blame dragonlance.
Before that, gnomes were simple forest creatures, possibly wearing pointed hats, with a love of gems, illusions, and burrowing mammals.
Now they have a reputation as experiment crazed weirdos with a penchant for accidental destruction and dangerous gadgets.

I can agree with that. There was a time back when they looked like this. I also blame WOW for just enhancing and popularizing it the notion even more - Gnomeregan is just one big factory.
I don't hate the concept, but I will admit that I liked it when Paizo went back to more a nature-aligned/fey-world gnome concept. Although I would also say the "curiosity" element they emphasize rings a little of kenders (also dragonlance). I guess the adage of "what's old is new again" has come around again.
