What happened to the playtests?

Announcements and General Discussion

Note: This is not a post meant to antagonize or bother the good folks on Paizo. I'm merely hoping for info.

So where is the rest of the playtest? It's been over a month since the Magus playtest ended (10/4) and no Words of Power and no new Magus build to throw into the grinder.

So what's up? Paizo Halloween party still have you guys hung over? Zombies? Giant cheese wheel a la Andrew Jackson?

They decided to give the NeonCon folks a sneak preiew of Words of Power. I'd expect the playtest either this week or next, in light of that.

Please? Pretty please?

We'll play nice.

Well, I will, at least.

I promise.

Did not know that. I will definitely be hoping for Words of Power sometime this week then. I'm making either a Magus or a Flame Oracle soon and I think both of those would really benefit from Words of Power.

Pretty please with a cherry on top.

Don't worry about promising to play nice...

Those that pride themselves on reading the playtest documents "objectively" (at least in their own eyes) have a lot of ground to make up since "those that only gush at everything Paizo releases" (again in those specific eyes) have a very big head start on them having been given an "unfair advantage" at seeing the documents days earlier.

I don't expect things to be nice very long.

The devs always seem pretty available and responsive, imo at least. The very fact they run an open playtest is positive. They don't agree with every suggestion, but then I haven't agreed with everything they've done in PF either. Still, I respect their talent and the work they've done. Disenchanter, some of your posts tend to leave me wondering just what you think is going on...

What about the Meet the Iconics segments? Poor Feiya, Balazar, and Imrijka get no love?

I wish they would wrap up the Magus changes first.....

Liberty's Edge

I was at NeonCon and the only thing I heard there was a workshop with the Tian Xia classes, Samurai and Ninja. Didn't see any words of power stuff or Magus stuff.

I dont suppose you would be willing to say what was mentioned about the samyrai and Ninja?

Liberty's Edge

Unfortunately, we did not wake up early enough for that. I just heard the announcement the night before that it was going to happen the next morning. We spent a lot of time playing the PFS scenarios and doing the special event scenario Saturday. I am unsure what the entire workshop entailed, but I think they did say that they would listen to ideas from the people there, which would have a chance of being used if they were good. Not sure if that was limited to the Tian Xia book.

Hey there folks,

There was to be a first look at the Words of Power system at Neoncon, but due to scheduling Snafu's it never happened. I am hoping to get the playtest for this, and a revision to the Magus, up soon. Alas, a nasty head cold has laid me low these past few days since the show. Should be back up and running tomorrow, but the next playtest will still take a few days to prepare.

Jason....I have one word for you....GARLIC !

High doses of garlic pills will clear you right up ;)

No, no, no, no...

A gentler remedy I'd recommend is Rose Hip Tea with honey...

Real mean eat garlic by the (fresh) cloves.*

I eat garlic all the time, still get sick. :)

On the other hand, when I do get sick, I've found pumping the heat up in the room I'm sleeping with to the high 90's and then sleeping it out works really well for me personally.

In either event, hope you get better soon Jason.

I have a hnasty chold too.

Allergic to garlic. Also to silver and holy water. Don't recommend it. "Vampiric Touch" can get you started nice and early, and makes up for being up all night.
Actually, stay hydrated, drink chicken broth (or vegetarian alternative) and sleep in.
I really am allergic to garlic, though.

Sorry to hear about your cold. Going around for sure, even on the other side of the bloody continent. Thanks for popping in to feed the information monster. We'll look forward to the playtest docs coming soon!

Get well first. Your health comes first, especially since recurrence of cold may lead to nasty complications.

PS. Also, breaking away from routine sometimes yields fresh insights.

Not to worry. The new magus has "sneeze guard" as a 1st-level class feature. :)

Is that like "Divine Health," only it only applies to the common cold?

actually, It's like a transparent, rectangular shield which hovers at a 45 degree angle a few inches above his face so that he is immune to all sneeze atacks....

Jason,

I would love to participate in the upcoming playtests, but without concrete developer objectives, I just can't stomach the atmosphere on the forums. It needn't be detailed or elaborate, just something that will keep people from intellectually masturbating for want of a yea/nay decision on key points of the design.

I've put a lot of thought into how the playtest might be improved to the point where I would want to actively participate, and clear design objectives seem like the number one change that could be made.

Please feel free to update the objectives as the playtest progresses, I think that could be really helpful. But please, don't make it another free-for-all. Everyone competes for the biggest megaphone under those circumstances, and it is really quite difficult to endure.

Thanks!

I enjoyed reading the Magus playtest forum for about 3-4 days. After that it was just too much and I never went back. Hopefully you got more out of it than I did.

Bah... Huge quantities of hot toddies: (brandy in tea with lemon). That's the trick. Won't make you get better (only rest'll do that) but you won't care because its delicious!

I understand your concern Evil Lincoln (BTW, great forum name, did you escape from a holodeck along with Ghengis Khan?).

The Magus playtest got away from us a bit, due to some lack of time on my part to properly monitor it. That will not happen this time. Its funny, I understand why you would want developer objectives, but I have found in the past that if I interject too much, I get colored results (as it is if any staff member interjects heavily, things sway to their opinion). I will be looking to find a middle ground on this one I think, giving out more guidelines from the start, but keeping about the same level of posting once things get going. If folks cannot follow rules, that is why we have a reporting feature, which we used quite regularly.

Interestingly enough, the people with the "biggest megaphone" do not get any extra weight from me. I am just not susceptible to that sort of attempt at coercion. Now, I might respond to them in an attempt to get them to calm down a bit, but that does not mean they have any greater effect on the playtest. I use the playtest to get feedback on certain features and to look for good ideas. I have implemented just as many from folks who only posted once, as I have from the folks who post a hundred times.

Its all about the good ideas. But I do agree, we need a few more guidelines to reign things in a bit.

Will see how it goes.

Forget the name... how on earth did you find an avatar that fits? The only one I can think of is a screenshot from Electric six's "Gay Bar" (Its a song... and a seriously catchy song)

It is good to hear that things are taken by something other than face value. As with all human interactions, 90% will be totally and utterly worthless tripe... its important to pick out the gems of pure conscious thought.

Yeah, I am quite happy with my avatar/handle, and it is a futurama reference. :) I'd love to know what Paizo product he illustration comes from...

Thanks Jason for your response. I know that you don't cave to pressure from the megaphone crowd, and I'm glad you're considering measures to keep people from harping on the same issue over and over.

I'd put money on it being Yetisburg. :)

I'm not positive, but I believe the illustration comes from a Dungeon Magazine adventure and he was an NPC/possibly a villain. I just can't remember which adventure it was or even the issue #.

Oooh... that could be what I was thinking... but just credited the art to a Dungeon adventure not a Pathfinder module.

Thanks Kevin.
