As long as Wilford Brimley doesn't.

Have you heard the broken English?
Have you heard the chorus line?
Have you heard they're taking in now?
Taking their own sweet time.
Have you heard the cards are on the green?
Have you heard what they have seen?
Well have you heard?
And have you heard the towers are shaking?
Heard the Bible isn't true?
Have you heard that you're mistaken
to want something to cling to?
Heard the record they've been playing?
Have you heard what they've been saying?
Well, have you heard?

That movie is going to rock, if you can ever get agreement on who gets their names in big letters on the bill boards.

When did this happen?
Why am I always the last one to know about these things?

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
1. I'm going to be a father in 7 months. What should I name my child?
2. Any thoughts on a Tome of Battle like supplement for Pathfinder? Would ToB be a good template to do psionics with?
3. How did you get your job? What's your education/background?
4. The editing issues with the APG are manifold and documented elsewhere (see among other things my post in Rules about the apparent uselessness of Ghostbane Dirge). Is there/should there be interest at Paizo in having a community editorial process before release? Say a number of people chosen from the community for their apparent grasp of English/rules/just being willing to devote the time?
5. Raspberry wine? Seriously? You and I are going to have to sit down with a nice scotch one day and talk about how to be an alcohol role model.
1) Treerazer.
2) We'll be doing "Ultimate Combat" next Gen Con, but it won't be following Tome of Battle's lead. I'm not a big fan of ToB, in fact. It isn't a good template for psionics at all.
3) I moved to the Seattle area in 1995, and a few years later saw Jim Butler's add on Usenet for gamers to join a new game. I contacted him and got into his game, which he ran at Wizards of the Coast—a few other WotC employees were in that game as well. When I quit my job working in a life insurance agency's call center (I didn't want to move to Minot, North Dakota to keep that job), I found out from my gaming buddies at WotC which temp agency WotC used and joined that temp agency. A few weeks later, I was doing temp jobs at WotC. I was working in the sales department doing order entry stuff when Pokemon hit hard, and WotC started hiring folks by the hundreds. I was one of those hired, and for several years I worked in the sales department there, eventually going from lowly order entry work to not-quite-as-lowly sales support and other stuff. During this time, I did a LOT of freelance for Dragon and Dungeon and got to know the folks in R&D. Eventually, my work on the magazines impressed them enough that they started giving me freelance work for game products—my first hardcover gig would have been the D&D version of Warcraft, but that project got cancelled during editing and the design work got "sold" to Sword & Sorcery studios. Yet R&D liked what I'd done enough that I kept getting additional freelance. Eventually, WotC spun off its periodicals department, which formed into Paizo. A year later, WotC R&D had a job opening, and I applied for it. I was one of the 3 possible choices—the other two being Jesse Decker and Matt Sernett. Jesse got the job. A week later, Paizo called me to ask me if I wanted to work for them as an assistant editor for Dungeon Magazine, since they'd just recently lost a member of their editorial team (Jesse!). I said "HELL YES" and jumped ship. Seven years later, after sticking with Paizo, I climbed the ladder and am now perched here as Creative Director. I have a Bachelor's degree in English (creative writing emphasis) from University of California at Davis.
4) We're taking steps to shore up our editing issues (which, to be a bit pedantic, are actually DESIGN and DEVELOPMENT issues, not editing issues). A community editorial process would not solve this problem; it would compound it because the realities of what needs to happen at the last stage of a product's cycle before it goes to the printer requires long hours from people who need to be on site to handle the situation, since the programs we use are expensive and the files we manipulate are HUGE and not easily transmitted electronically and because having an in-house editorial staff is in countless ways better than farming out editorial duties to freelancers. It might seem like a good idea, but I've seen similar attempts before and it doesn't work well at all. Again, we're taking steps to shore up the problems with editing (mostly by hiring more folks, but also by revising our process and extending the time out for how long a book is worked on by starting work on it sooner).
5) Raspberry wine is delicious. I'm not really interested in being an alcohol role model, in any case. Jason can have that job.

What genres of video game would you like to see Golarion in?
RPG, first-person shooter, third-person shooter, and anything else awesome.
Have you tried DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online)? If not, did you avoid it because of the oily smell of living constructs? Would that format be good enough for PFRPG?
I did try it, but I didn't like it that much because the rules for the game had changed too much, because some of my favorite class and race options were not available, because it was set in Eberron (eew), and because the intrusive "DM" element that described rooms as you entered them was really silly. And because in all other ways it was inferior to Warcraft.
And now that I've upgraded from PC to Mac, I can't play DDO anyway, so that's that.

Feel free to elaborate further on the top picture.
What were you guys thinking? [in making that group pose] ;p
Do you miss Lardus?
Mr. Athans had a fun blog series by the way.
The top picture was staged to show off a group of gamers who played using the original Basic D&D rules being baffled and confused and a little bit frightened at how awesome and colorful and complete this fancy new edition of the game looked.
I do miss Lardus. He was a hoot to play. And his halberd kicked ass. I also miss the group itself; they were a fun group to play with!

James Jacobs wrote:Well then you are braver man then I to continue reading them. What do you think of the idea of psionics working similar to the way they do now except with spell levels instead of PPs, using the same feats and spells that already exist?Justin Franklin wrote:If something productive was ever said in one of the psionic threads would anyone notice? There's been PLENTY productive on those threads. I've noticed some of it.
I think that's a good place to start, but I also think that it's not far enough. The flavor of psionics is kind of dry—it needs a good dose of real world myth and flavor. As in: the psionic classes need to have names that immediately evoke cool ideas for characters.
"Wilder" and "soulknife" do not do that, but words like "mesmerist" or "spiritualist" do.

Have you ever been to Ohio?
Do you like rollercoasters?
Will Paizo release rules for firearms anytime in the near future?
What is that over there?
5. Is it easier to answer these muliple question posts if the poster numbers them?
How does that make you feel?
You are stranded on a desert island with a full collection of Paizo books with the following people Vin Diesel, Kurt Shilling, Wil Wheaton, Erik Mona, and Monte Cook. Who do you kill and eat while the rest of you play Pathfinder?
No, sure, probably, a venus flytrap, yes, productive, Kurt Shiling (because I don't know who he is and thus won't miss him).

Thanks for answering my questions! This is remarkably fun.
1. How big does PaizoCon need to get before there is an east coast con? Could it be in the Maryland/DC area? I don't like long trips unless there is a fancy beach at my destination.
2. If you won't be an alcohol role model, can you arrange for Jason and I to share a bottle of scotch so we can talk about you behind your back?
3. Have you played Dragon Age? If so, which class?
4. Which of the male iconics would you prefer to huddle in a tauntaun with for warmth?
5. Will you include the god I invented in a future Pathfinder book? His name is Drunkonius and he is the booze goblin that lives in the moon. He's pretty chill for a god, asking only that his followers (Drunkons or just Drunks for short) periodically sacrifice their sobriety for him. Drunkoness is a pretty ecumenical religion and nice enough, though its followers range in temperament from happy drunks to sad drunks to angry drunks. As the High Cleric of Drunkoness, I am willing and able to give you the rights to publish this.
And no, this religion is not at all like Cayden Cailean. That dude is all political with his freedom schtick. We just want to have a good time. Chaotic neutral probably.

Question of importance.
Say you write fanfiction and get laughed at by a particular person for it. And then you find that same person furtively writing fanfiction while guiltily hoping no one notices. Am I allowed to call this person a fangirl? Am I allowed to laugh at them the same way they laughed at me?
According to the Quad-F (Final Fantasy/Firefly/Futurama) convention of '08, you are indeed allowed to partake of reciprocal laughter at another person's fan fiction, provided that:
A) That person laughed at fan fiction you wrote for a period of time of no less than 17 consecutive seconds;
B) That person fan fiction is at least 80% the length of the amount of fan fiction you had written at the time of the first incidence of laughter;
C) That person's fan fiction has been legitimately exposed and has not been suspiciously revealed by skulduggery.
It's a complicated convention, the Quad-F, so if you want to just go ahead and laugh, you're probably okay.
