Do you need to have the Gunsmithing feat to craft firearms or repair them?
If not, what is the craft DC?
Guns are assumed to be emerging and rare—that's the baseline assumption. As such, how to build and repair guns isn't something that just anyone can do by taking a single rank in a skill.
The Gunsmithing feat's whole purpose is that having it unlocks the secrets of reparing and building firearms. Without the feat, you can't do it.
If you're playing in a game that has Commonplace Guns or Guns Everywhere (see page 135 of Ultimate Combat), then it's probably a good idea to assume that an increasing number of folks gain Gunsmithing as a bonus feat.
The DC to craft and repair guns using the Craft skill, though, is equal to that of a complex or superior item—DC 20.

Is there any detailed info on White Estrid's raid on Nisroch and her break of the Chelaxian blockade at the Arch of Aroden? I'm going to be running a Land of the Linnorm Kings campaign soon, and I want my players to take part in that, so anywhere I could find info would be awesome.
Not much yet, no. What's said in Inner Sea World Guide and in Lands of the Linnorm Kings is pretty much it for now, and for the foreseeable future.

Is the Pathfinder Comic based off Rise of The Runelords? Cause? well, Goblins...
I only ask cause I'm running runelords right now and I don't want my players spoiling the plot by reading your awesome comics if they are based off runelords.
The comic takes place in Sandpoint and the surrounding regions, and it involves goblins, but it is NOT based off Rise of the Runelords. In fact, players should be able to read the comic and use that to help them get into the region's themes and all that.

What if it comes up in the backstory for the upcoming Irrisen/Linnorm Kings Adventure Path?

If it comes up in the backstory for ANY Adventure Path, we'll cover it there.
That said... we have not yet announced what the AP after Shattered Star is going to be—we're saving that for Paizocon. A lot of folks seem to feel pretty confident that they've figured it all out.
They have not.
In some regards, they're not even close.

hi James,
did you ever visit:
crater lake national park?
redwood national park?
columbia river gorge?if you would visit the pacific northwest and would have only time for two of the above, which would you recomend to visit?
I've never been to Crater Lake or the Columbia River Gorge... but I more or less grew up in the redwoods. As such, I'm pretty biased there—visit the redwoods!!! After all... isn't it more fun to go see one of the LARGEST LIVING THINGS ON THE PLANET than it is to see a lake or a gorge?

Two questions I'm hoping you can help me with James (or at least direct me to the proper place to ask them:
1. The spell Sign of Wrath from AP#5, not sure if this is a conversion issue or just a me issue, the spell states:
School evocation (force); Level sorcerer/wizard 6
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, s, f (a gem worth 1,000 gp inscribed with the thassilonian symbol of wrath)
Range personal
Area 25-ft.-radius burst centered on you
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw refex half; Spell Resistance yes
A giant, glowing symbol of wrath appears below you, forcibly repulsing all nearby creatures. All creatures within the area of effect take 1d6 points of force damage per caster level (maximum 15d6) and are subjected to a bull rush that attempts to push them directly away from you. the blast’s bull rush effect is treated as having strength 25 + your intelligence modifier, but gains no other bonuses for size or charging. You are unaffected by both the spell’s damage and bull rush effect.
It sounds awesome, but I'm not too sure how the bull rush part works, my Wizard who's looking at taking it has a 24 Int, so +7. Is it:
7 (25 strength) +7 (24 Int) = +14 to bull rush or,
25 strength + 7 int mod = 32 strength = +11 to bull rush.
It also states that you gain no other bonuses for size or charging, but doesn't mention whether or not you get your BAB.
2. Tide of Honor (AP#54) has a monster from "Jade Dragons & Hungry Ghosts" (Page 26). Was this a planned Tien Xia book that got scrapped, or something else I've never heard of?

Just curious about the development of the RotRL HC:
You had mentioned previously that the final antagonist(s) will closely resemble the cover of the GameMastery Guide. I'm just curious as to the timing of everything.
Did you commission the GMG cover as an "if I had a chance to do RL all over, this is what I would do"? Or, was it a matter of when, not if, you would have a chance to work on it again; or, for that matter, did you know the HC was coming when you chose the cover for the GMG?
Thanks!

1) Sign of Wrath got updated in the Rise of the Runelords anniversary hardcover. In the update, the bull rush has a check equal to your caster level + your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma modifier (whichever is highest).
2) Jade Dragons & Hungry Ghosts is an older Asia-themed monster bestiary from Green Ronin that was published for 3.5 (books like this are cited in the OGL section).

It wasn't until I started working on the revision to the Runelords hardcover that I hit upon the idea that the cover to the GMG could serve as inspiration for how to make the final battle with Karzoug more interesting. It is what it is in Pathfinder #6 mostly for space concerns—we didn't have the room to do a bigger more complicated battle. In hindsight, I wish we'd have cut something else in the adventure to make room for a bigger more complicated battle, because a single foe NPC is kinda an unfair fight for the NPC.
SO. It's fixed in the hardcover.

The legends of Kraken are based on giant squid, of which the largest specimen documented was 33 feet long and it's believed that they can grow up to 50 feet long. And it is suspected that there have been rare attacks by these squid on fishing boats.

True... but they're still not kraken. And still MUCH smaller than redwood trees, which can grow over 350 feet tall.

Does Warding Weapon have a duratin miss print? for a magus level one spell to last only one round (at levbel 1) it accomplishes nothing; if the intent of the spell is to ward the casting of futher spells.
No misprint—it's just not really a great spell to cast when you're first level (note that for wizards and sorcerers, it's a 2nd level spell...). It'll help you cast a few other 1st level spells that are swift actions, like feather fall, if it's only got 1 round of duration, but it's probably not something a 1st level magus should ever be casting in any case.

It was my idea to put them into Golarion (they can be found above the Midnight Mountains of Orv in the Darklands), and thus to put them into Bestiary 2.
As for whose idea they were in the first place... I'm not sure. They're from the D&D Epic-Level Handbok SRD. I'm not sure who wrote them up for that book.

No more so than it's based on Runelords, in that it takes place in the same location and features a few cameos by the same NPCs.
The storyline for the comic is a brand new one that Jim Zub came up with along with some input from me and Erik and Wes and James Sutter.

Great! I was hoping it might have :) Thanks for clearing that up.
Hmm, should have thought to check the OGL I spose. Thanks.
On a slightly related note, Hungry Storm (AP# 51) has an item that allows you to activate a Spiritual Ally (CL 7) 1/day. Spiritual Ally normally uses the caster's BAB + Wisdom for it's to hit. Would this use the BAB of a 7th lvl cleric (5) + min Wisdom (14 = 2) = +7 or the person who activated it's BAB.
Thanks again :)

It would indeed use the BAB of a 7th level cleric with minimum Wisdom.

Hey James,
With Aroden being the deity of prophesies, would you say his demise had an effect on the prophesies of Pharasma? (and perhaps other deities with a similar portfolio) Or is it just one of those 'it only screws mortals' situations?
Not sure where you're getting Aroden was a deity of prophecies. There was a prophecy that he would return to usher humanity into a new golden age... but that's not the same as being a god of prophecy. He was the god of humanity, innovation, and history.

Wow, I never noticed that prophecy isn't part of his portfolio at all. It seemed so inherent to Aroden.
Actually, I accidentally answered my own question when I stumbled on p.216 from the Inner Sea World Guide, which implies the other gods now suffer from the loss of prophecy (and are freaked out by it). So yeh, oops. :S
Cheers James.

James Jacobs wrote:He was the god of humanity, innovation, and history.Hmm... Now that the god of humanity is no more; does this imply that in Golarion, humanity will decline, making the whole world ever so slightly less humanocentric in the future?
That could imply that.
Or it could imply that now that humanity has no one god, they'll no longer huddle under that one god and will extend out and grow into its own thing, kind of like how a child who becomes an adult and moves out of the house and is no longer under his parents' control becomes his own person.
Or it could mean something in either direction.
James Jacobs Creative Director |
I'm seeing the potential rise of several new "gods of humanity"... is that a possibility?
Not really.
The idea is that the other core 20 deities, who were always there as other gods for humans to worship, have risen to the occasion to become the "human pantheon" of the Inner Sea region.
