I generally allow druids to use all of an animal's powers. Because it's more fun.

Will Paizo ever release an adventure path that lets player characters actually hit level 20 before the games actually end? The furthest we ever get is a party of level 15 or 16 if we are lucky. It just makes me feel like I should take a black marker and remove those last few levels of each class from my rulebooks, because my group only plays the pre-made adventure paths like carrion crown and jade regent. In over a decade of role playing games based on D&D, I have never touched an eighth level spell.

Is there any magic item that would carry the effect of protective penumbra? Want to know because my character is most likely going vampire in Carrion Crown book 5 but we have no wealth. It became my responsibility to buy cure light wounds wands constantly for the party, leaving me with 20 gold at the moment so I can't afford 4,500 for a level 2 wand of it, which I would burn through pretty quick anyways, and four castings uses up all my second level cleric spells. Trying to decide if I should retire my character at that point since the party never wants to do anything at night. I do understand the "Just don't become one" but one player was allowed to be a werewolf and it is kind of a kick in the teeth if each player does not get to fulfill what their character design was.

I've tried to do an AP that goes to 20th several times...but the fact of the matter is that 6 volumes, combined with the fact that about 50 pages a month (which is the physical limit that we can produce in a month for one article on a monthly basis, since we can't "teamwork" the development of an adventure that easily) means that there's a physical limit on the number of words (and thus the number of encounters, and thus the amount of XP) that we can put in an adventure.

I'm trying a few other stunts with the upcoming "Shattered Star" which, if it works out, will allow for PCs to reach 17th or maybe 18th level.

But even with a 430 page revision of Rise of the Runelords, the best I could do was a 1st to 17th level adventure.

Switching to the Fast Track XP progression won't help either, alas... since that basically just adds a level to the max (so Runelords would have gone to 18th).

As for those last few levels... I know it feels frustrating as a player to not be able to reach those final levels... but they ARE still used by the GM. Frankly... I kind of wish we'd set the level cap for the game at 25 but then kept the level cap for PCs at 20, since that would have expanded the tools and resources for GMs to populate adventures even more... as it stands, creating adventures for 20th level or near-20th-level PCs is tricky since there's a quickly diminishing amount of resources for foes that are equally or more powerful.

One thing you CAN do, though, is to talk with your GM about your frustrations. Each AP concludes with a "continuing the campaign" article that a GM can use to keep playing to whatever level he wants to go to... the problem there is, of course, that it's a lot more work for the GM.

Finally... you might want to check out the Shackled City AP (or the Age of Worms or Savage Tide APs) that we published for Dungeon magazine. I mention Shackled City first and outside of the parenthesis because it's available as a complete unit in hardcover, whereas the other two are not—you have to buy the 12 volumes of Dungeon they appeared in, and many of those issues are out of print, alas. But all three of those APs go from 1st to 20th level... a benefit, mostly, of the fact that in D&D, experience is gained at an even faster rate than the Fast Track for Pathfinder.

NOW!

As for the second question, I can't really answer that. I'm just generally wary about giving away plot elements or spoilers or things like that to folks who are playing in an AP.... GMs get really angry when you spoil their games! :P

That said... becoming a vampire pushes the game's boundaries a lot further even than becoming a werewolf. And as such... it probably SHOULD be a much harder route to pursue.

It's worth keeping in mind that the way Pathfinder is built it's intended to be a cooperative game where you and other players work as a team; it starts breaking down when you try to play the Lone Ranger, especially if you're playing a character whose purposes and goals and tactics just don't fit with the rest of the group. Playing a vampire-to-be who channels negative energy in a group of living characters who don't like adventuring at night certainly puts your character into a situation where you really CAN'T be a team player—something that the werewolf character, who has less restrictive penalties and restrictions (but also less powerful powers and defenses) doesn't have to worry about.

What I'm saying is that retiring the character or simply re-building/re-focusing the current character to be a character that's more in sync with his expected party role and the party's build itself might be a good idea. It's generally pretty tough to build a character that just can't mix with any one group (playing a paladin is a good way to do that... but so is playing someone who wants to be a vampire/is a vampire). If everyone else in the group were playing vampires... it wouldn't be a problem.

But they're not. And that makes playing a vampire a tough choice indeed.

Yes.

Without reposting a big wall of text, cause that would kinda be rude to people reading this, I just want to state that I was a dhampir cleric with negative energy, but I buy CLW wands and took selective channeling. The negative just heals me and I use it to take control of undead that are attacking us to make fights easier for the rest of the group, who are a human Red Mantis, human rogue/wizard, half-elf ranger (werewolf), elf magus, and changling (looks like a lizardfolk) paladin of shelyn/holy vindicator, and my dhampir cleric.

Oh by the way, I know it is a spoiler for me to know but

I ate the demon wolf pack leader's heart and bluffed my way out of a confrontation with the prince's wolves. It is book 5, should I be scared about some backlash from doing that? And yes I took the cure already.

1)Why does the Blood of the Night book focus on all vampires instead of just the Dhampir?

2)How different in stats would the ancient Cyclopes be to the modern versions?

The closest thing we have to a "dire porcupine" would be the giant porcupine form Bestiary 3. And yes, I'd allow that.

I've been cautiously approaching maybe trying to adapt Age of Worms to Pathfinder for my gaming group, but I hadn't considered the XP track.

Assuming the encounters all stay more or less the same CR, should I use the 3.5 track?

1)A lot of writers for Innersea magic, so I take it they each get like 4-6 monsters to work on each, correct?

2)I didn't say the "crab people" had to be a 0HD "playable" race, but how about as just a monster? would you make them humaniod or monstrous humaniod?

3)Are there any actors and/or actresses that you miss because they retired or are no longer among the living? if so who?

4)How do you feel about good aligned aberrations?

5)What are the odds of seeing golems made of precious metals or gems? how would you handle the treasure since they are the treasure?

6)if you add the advanced template(or any template) shouldn't the creature's treasure go up with it's new CR?

7)What are your favorite part(s) of the Avengers movie? least favorite?

I would use the Fast track and monitor PC advancement and if it looked like they were falling behind, I'd throw in a few more encounters or a few hefty story awards here and there to keep them at the right levels.

1) Correct. Some did as many as a dozen monsters. Some only did one or two.

2) Probably monstrous humanoid with racial HD.

3) Yes. Too many to list. To pick just five at semi-random: Anthony Perkins, Gregory Peck, Buster Keaton, Vincent Price, and Donald Pleasance.

4) That they're really hard to design.

5) We've done a few already—mithral and adamantine golems are precious metals. We'll do more. Treasure would either be "the materials crumble upon death" or "the materials are worth a CR appropriate treasure amount."

6) Yes. We don't need to say that, in fact, since that's implicit in how any treasure award works—when CR changes (regardless of HOW it changes), it's treasure value and XP award change automatically.

7) Favorite 5 parts...

Spoiler:
1) Black Widow interrogating Loki; 2) The long continuous take of the Avengers being all bad-ass and teamworking; 3) Hulk smashing Loki; 4) "Point Break"; 5) Any scene with Scarlett Johanson in it.

Least favorite part...
Spoiler:
That Loki didn't speak German in the scene where he was making the Germans kneel before him.

I was going to ask you about CthulhuTech, but I did some search-fu on this thread and I saw that you've already blessed it with: "Looks cool, neat ideas.."

Again, as with Warhammer FRPG 3E, we have games in common that interest us.

My question: Does lack of GMs to run alternative games limit you? Or is it personal time?

Spoiler:
(With me, it's the medium.. I have no local players and use a VTT. My group is committed to Pathfinder AP's and reconfiguring MapTools for another game is loo much work. Whereas if I had them at the physical table I could probably try other games from time to time)

If you take a tumor familiar, you'd best take one that breathes the same thing you do. Or be prepared to wear a bucket of water on your hip, I guess.

I'm currently running 4 games (3 Pathfinder, one Call of Cthulhu) and playing in 4 other games. They meet regularly or irregularly... but I'm able to fit all the gaming I want and need into my schedule for the most part. What really limits me from branching out and playing games in other systems at this point is the fact that I really do prefer Pathfinder and Call of Cthulhu.

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 4

Ah!

I see. No harm in that. I prefer Pathfinder above all others too (but get curious, obviously).

But yes, you do have a robust gaming schedule. Very cool.

Ray spells can indeed benefit from those feats. Although ray spells that don't do damage don't get a +1 bonus to damage from Point Blank Shot.

I'm not sure off the top of my head what their sales figures are like... but they're QUITE popular among the staff at Paizo, who wrote 2/3 of them. So chances of us doing more stuff in the series in the future are pretty good.

I started running Carrion Crown in late September of 2011. Currently, I expect my group to finish up "Trial of the Beast" sometime in mid-June.

If the campaign moves forward at roughly that rate for the foreseeable future, that would mean that we will finish up Carrion Crown sometime in January of 2014. At that point, I'll likely begin fleshing out the entirety of Gallowspire using the details presented in "Dungeons of Golarion".

My question is, how good are the chances of the Pathfinder RPG having epic/mythic (i.e., above 20th-level) rules in print by that point in time?

Follow-up question: How likely is it that such a sourcebook would include stat blocks for the major players in Golarion, such as the Whispering Tyrant? Is such material the sort of thing you'd prefer to publish in a book in the campaign line rather than a "pure" rules supplement?

A lot can happen in two years.

If we DID do a Mythic Level book, having some direct support for Golarion, including things like stats for Arazni, the Whispering Tyrant, demon lords, along with adventures and sourcebooks to support the rules, would be a necessity. One of the greatest errors made with epic rules was the lack of support.

The Rune Giant is gargantuan. We've yet to attempt a colossal figure like what we'd need for a Spawn of Rovagug.

We'll see... the Rune Giant's not out there yet, so it's hard to know if the risk is worth the reward yet...

Ah. Yeah, I'm not all that up to speed on 3rd party publications.

I use whiteboards every day. There's one looking out over the editorial pit that tracks all of our product schedules and the like that is CONSTANTLY in use. I also have a whiteboard in my office that I use to keep track of to-do lists, handy numbers (like the target word count of the current adventure I might be devloping), lists of freelancers to contact, lists of things to make sure get into "small" projects like AP Players' Guides, and the like.
