James Jacobs wrote:Nocticula's escape from the Abyss and rise from evil is important to her, and she's not interested in supporting those who want to stay evil themselves. This is a really interesting statement and, at least for me, potentially sheds new light on Nocticula's actions and motivations. I was under the impression that her primary goal was becoming a full-fledged deity, and departing the Abyss, changing alignment, etc. were all means to that end. The statement above suggests that it's other way round, becoming a deity was a means to the goal of becoming non-evil and "escap[ing] the Abyss."
Is it possible to sort out what was more important to Nocticula, become a deity or becoming non-evil, and if so which was her more important motivation?
The fact that she ascended from demonkind is the big deal, not the fact that she went from demigod to deity. Something becoming a deity is MUCH MUCH MUCH more common (although still VERY VERY RARE) than a demon lord casting aside evil. Becoming a deity was a nice side effect and not one that she was aiming toward—had she been doing all of this JUST to become a deity, it wouldn't have been "honest" and she likely would have failed, since she wasn't trying to become a deity of pride or ego or power or anything that "I want to become a deity" would support.

A few more questions about Ninshabur:
What modern countries stand now where Ninshabur once stood?
Did they have much in the way of star-priests and interesting astrological magic? If not, what sorts of magic did they favor/were they especially good at?
What types of Outsider-blooded races would be most likely to have roots in Ancient Ninshabur?
What classes/Archetypes/feats/weapons would you recommend for the modern Ninshaburophile adventurer (aside from the Spawn Slayer, I know that one :))?
Unrevealed. Ninshabur is a topic we've not made many decisions about yet. I had a fair amount of plans to develop it in Strange Aeons, particularly in part 5 of that Adventure Path, and included some notes as such in the outline, but then had to hand that Adventure Path off to Adam Daigle to develop and other authors to write and haven't had the time to go back and read how they decided to tackle the subject. But there might be more info for you in part 5 of Strange Aeons.
And please keep questions to one per post.

Huh, those are neat. Would it make sense for the Azi to make the jump to 2E to return if a Ahriman AP ever occurs? Or would you be more interested in all-new critters?
The azis' connection to Ahriman and the Divs does seem to make them much more... specialized?... than the Linnorms are.
I still love the description of Linnorms as being the hillbilly axe-murderers of the dragon world.

Ahriman is more about divs than azis, so I'd be tempted to focus there rather than split that focus.

James,
Is Sargava still a thing in the new edition?
It's changing and evolving into something new (and in my opinion much more interesting), but the "DNA" of Sargava will still be in there. In much the same way you've seen northern Cheliax evolve into Ravounel, or the Kodar Mountans and nearby areas evolve into New Thassilon, Sargava's evolving as well.
We MIGHT have more details about this during Paizocon in a few days, but I'm not ready to talk about it here yet.

Overall I was quite pleased with the last season. My only two regrets is that it's over, and that toxic/entitled fan reactions on the internet have further damaged my faith in humanity.
What do you think about Scientific American's take, then?

Don't know. Haven't read it and won't. I'm really not interested at this point in immersing myself in the morass of toxic fan over-reactions, especially this close to PaizoCon when I need to cultivate my positivity and focus on the positive elements of fandom.

The Scientific American article is about the differences between sociological storytelling and psychological storytelling. I'd be curious (after GenCon) to hear your take on when Paizo uses one form, and when they use the other.
Are the sociological stories kept in-house, and the psychological stories given to freelancers?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Perhaps because I've not read the article.

Id there a reason Lissala seems to be off-limits as a player option (read that as no options for deific obedience) where other evil gods and even forgotten gods are not? I only ask because she is one of my favorite goddesses (and if it isn't too much of a violation of the one question rule, is she from your homebrew or did she come from some other place?)

Dear James Jacobs,
If we were to analog Game of Throne characters to existing Pathfinder deities, do you think that Daenrys would be like the Herald of Tiamat in Golarion?
Tiamat doesn't have a role in Golarion really. She's D&D these days (and probably should have remained D&D). Dahak's our bad dragon deity.
THAT SAID... I wouldn't say Daenerys would be a herald of either deity. She's stronger as her own force of nature rather than someone else's messenger.

Although Aroden was Lawful Neutral (and it seems is skewing towards being kind of a jerk) how come he seems to have a lot of Lawful Good adherents (Iomedae)?
Abadar does as well. Both are deities more concerned with law than anything else, and thus attract(ed) plenty of extremists on either side.

Lissala was invented by Wolfgang Baur specifically for Thassilon in the support articles for Burnt Offerings; she wasn't form my homebrew. She's no more off-limits as a player option than any other evil deity, really.

What caused Lissala to shift from Lawful Neutral as presented in Ruins of Azlant to Lawful Evil as presented everywhere else?
That's not really something we've done much with, but I've always felt like it was her seeing her worshipers, particularly in Post-Xin Thassilon, grow all sinful and the like and liking what she saw and going along with the flow. It's one thing to say that a deity's change causes changes across the world, but it's more interesting to me in this case that a deity's worshipers going "bad" have a similar effect on the deity herself.

It seems as of 2E, Sargava's name will change to Vidrian- I presume there's a story there. Is it one that we'll see in the book, or is it more background material that we should ask about here?
This story's detailed much more in the books to come, starting with Lost Omens World Guide.

Ah. Let's say I was fighting against him putting in all the things that everyone wouldn't like in favor for putting in all the things that everyone WOULD like, then! :-P

What do you think of the elves in that setting?
Not memorable enough for me to remember them being any different, I guess.

Dear James Jacobs,
Would you say the Night King would be more of a follower of Thrym or more likely, Ithaqua? Or someone else?
The Night King is not a follower either, but his own thing. He's also a different character in the show than in the books, so going ONLY by the evidence in the show, I'd say he's not a follower of anything at all, but one who GETS followed.
When interpreting characters from fiction like this, I much prefer to keep them as much in their own world with their own support, rather than try to shoe-horn them into a setting that's not really built to support them. Were I to import the Night King into Golarion, I'd also need to import the white walkers, the lesser undead, the various weapons they use, dragonglass, and the like so that they all work as intended, at which point I might as well instead keep them in Westeros and instead run a Pathfinder game set there rather than in another setting.

Ever have a Lovecraft story that you sort of forget about and then get to "rediscover" when paging through a collection?
