A) It's already printed and on a boat back to us. No amount of proofreeding now will help, as a result.
B) AND: If you catch all the mistakes in a complex book the size of the Bestiary, you'll be the first in the history of RPGs to have achieved that stunt.

James, will the Bestiary have Pathfinder Campaign Setting fluff tied into the monsters, or have you guys tried to keep that to a minimum, like in the Pathfinder RPG.
There'll be no direct Golarion content in the Bestiary. We won't be including monsters that are inexorably tied to Golarion, such as the Sandpoint Devil. That said, we ARE bringing in Golarion-compatible flavor for the monsters. The goblins in the Bestiary, for example, are dog-hating illiterates who like fire.
But there are no actual references to any actual proper nouns from Golarion in the Bestiary.

Too early to tell. We will know more when we know it is sitting in port.

Does this mean there's a small chance of a preview part 3? :)
Kobolds would be nice. :) :)

I'm aiming for the record! :)
I can't wait to have the bestiary in my hands! I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before, but the smell of the core rulebook is really great. Sprayed with Roleplaying Essence to attract old timers, eh? And I really enjoy the good quality paper and binding.
I hope the bestiary won't disappoint my nostrils :)

If it works out that we ship Pathfinder 3 or perhaps Carrion Hill before we ship the Bestiary... we'll strongly consider doing a Preview 3. We don't know yet if it's necessary... I kind of hope it won't be!

This has probably been mentioned elsewhere; apologies if it has.
Are any parts of the Bestiary going to be released to the Pathfinder Reference Document? I assume yes, because (most of) the MM was in the d20 SRD, but you know what they say about assuming...
I belive that is the plan, yup!
Certainly, all of the Bestiary is going to be open content, so if WE don't do this, SOMEONE will! :P

Virtually all of the Bestiary will be on the PRD.

But not the beautiful, beautiful artwork. Trust me—when you see the book, you'll want the book.

Oh, I already want the book. The excellent artwork from the previews more than secured my purchase. Love the dire tiger (scared little piggies!) and the zombie (Grrr! Argh!) especially!
Looking forward to this product almost as much as the Core Rules!
If I offer to swim behind the ship and push, will it get here sooner? :)

We have already seen some artwork, and that is enough. We want the book - now!

Any better idea on a release date now, perchance? :-)
Looks like a box of them just showed up here at Paizo today. I suspect this box are the "Advance Scouts" that we'll (hopefully) have for in-house reference and for out-of house obligations of various sorts. These advance books usually show up not long before the main shipment, but I don't know how long. Other than to say things are looking really close...
(Amazon's November 11th release seems off, but who knows how Amazon figures things?)

![]() |

It's November 11 according to Amazon.
I've learned to take any date Amazon has for Paizo's products with a Lot's-wife-sized pillar of salt, and suggest you do the same.
The *only* reliable place to look for release date info on our products is our own product schedule page, which we update with our best estimates whenever those estimates change. Right now, we expect the Bestiary in about two weeks, which is why it says "mid-October" at the moment. It could still move either way, of course.

Amazon is pulling their date from their suppliers. So whoever Paizo sends it out to that Amazon gets it from, that's who's giving out the date.

When we solicit a product, which happens several months before product is released, we provide a release date to our distributors, and presumably Amazon gets their initial data from them; when products first show up in Amazon's listings, they usually have that date.
As we get to within a month or two of the actual release, if it looks like the release date will shift, we let our distributors know. Whether or not that word passes to Amazon, I do not know.
Finally, as things are actually arriving in the warehouse, we set a firm retail release date, and communicate that to our distributors. Again, whether or not that word passes to Amazon, I do not know.
Clearly they've had some updates since we solicited, because we had initially solicited it for July release; several months ago, we decided that having it out before the Core Rulebook was unworkable and so we moved it to September. The last update we communicated to our distributors on the Bestiary was a week ago, when we estimated a street date in late October. But why Amazon's now saying November 11, I do not know.

Yeah, I think they set it out that far as a catch all, and are waiting for the real release.
The video game industry does a similar thing, by making the release date april first. Setting it to april fools is their way of saying "we don't know" but since it has a release date, they can still get people to preorder, expecting it april first.

Some good stuff

now the question is were do i find wife-sized pillars of salt? ...
At BIG LOTS!, obviously. :)

well...this is certainly interesting.
Because i've ordered it from Amazon, and the sight says Nov 11th as of this posting, but when i check my shipments it says "shipment date estimate Oct 13th."
hopefully it stays with that though i doubt it considering mr. Wertz just said Nov 4th...hmmm (maybe a few of us will get lucky and get it early; happened with 4th ed.)

If we're lucky, it will arrive in *our* warehouse around October 13; I can thus guarantee you that Amazon will not have it by that date.

Me too! I was planning to buy this one from the local game store... and still am, except I can ease up on the question of how soon. Glad to have the update.

Ha! Kobolds are way more popular than I thought. I thought I was the only one pestering the staff for the Kobold statblock.
Yessssss. Kobolds are goooooood!
They'd be even better if I had the stats for kobold PC's. I've been house ruling for too long.
Ordered Bestiary from my FLGS today. Can't wait to hold it in my cold, scaly claws. :D

Will the pdf release coincide with the street date? Or will we see an early pdf release so that people who need the Bestiary for their games can go ahead and get cracking on it? Thanks for any answers!

Ok so I understand the books will take a while. But is there a chance they will be in the pRD before that?
Doubtful. Street-date is usually a hard-and-fast release date.
Also - I thought it might be good to re-mention that we can all still use MM1, 2,3,4,5 and ToH 1,2,3 and Denizens of Avadnu, and whatever is your preferred d20/ v.3.5 monster book until then.
I find making modifications on-the-fly isn't any real problem as the GM, taking advantage of Jason Bulmahn's backward compatibility design :)
But, yeah, I haven't been this excited about a monster book since I bought the original Fiend Folio.
:)

preorders through paizo are going out within the next week... that means if you are a subscriber, you get the PDF at that time... after 2 months, one more week doesn't seem all that long (and there is still time to start with the bestiary in you subscription)
