VERY unhappy!

They could have at least have included the claw/claw/bite natural attack, or a bonus to CHA for the best kobold spellcasting class (aka sorcerer).

As it is, I think they are the only race / monster with a total negative modifier. I'll know more when I order my copy of the pdf.

LOL,

Nice to see you J. Sorry Orix isn't getting any Paizo love.

Kobolds, like the rest of the Bestiary's contents, were designed to fill a monster role. In the kobold's case, that's "A monster that you can fight a LOT of even at 1st level." That means that, yes, they're pretty wimpy. They're not the wimpiest though... that award probably goes to the lowly mite.

You guys are still stalking?

So boring.

I'm practising metastalking these days. That's where you stalk a stalker. Very rewarding.

last time i ran into kobolds in a game they chewed our 8th level part to pieces....damned lawful evil for being organized. traps, ambushes, switchbacks, alchemical weaponry and lots and lots and lots of kobolds.

Should have never let the DM read about Tucker's Kobolds.

Dont even ask about the hobgoblin ecnounter later.

Can they still choose the bloodlines from Classic Monsters?

Why couldn't they? Including Golarion-specific content in the Bestiary might be unwelcome to those players and GMs looking to use the rules but not the setting. I don't see anything mechanics-wise about the PFRPG kobold that would prevent any setting material from Classic Monsters or any other sourcebook to be applied to them.

Or anything else.

How often can you just kill tied-up enemies before the GM decrees that you don't get any more XP for it?

And the only thing more pathetic than kobolds are tied-up prisoners. And even then, not very powerful tied-up prisoners. Let's say, young goblin commoners.

Shooting fish in a barrel is harder than fighting kobolds.

Be nice. You don't know the circumstances. No, I don't either, but am willing to give the benefit of doubt.

A swarm of kobolds, using aid another, can do a fair bit of damage to a party.

You say that now... however I've got this little kobold friend of mine I'd like to introduce to you. See... he is small, even for a kobold but the other kobolds keep him chained with adamantine chains and muzzle and roll him around on a little dolly for a reason. (He likes livers but skip the fava beans.)

You've not seen player fear until you throw a Kobold Frenzy Berserker against your PC's. My group happened to be high enough level and big enough that I felt absolutely no remorse in giving that little kobold deathless frenzy. I built the little fella with elite array but heck if he still didn't have a strength stat in the high 30's butt naked with only a bull's strength spell slapped on him as his keepers ran away in terror after poking him with a stick before locking the door on the party. Little fella had nothing but a loin cloth and a great pick.

Over 500 hp worth of damage later (my group was blaster heavy with a warforged juggernaut) his rage timer ticked down and he fell over dead. He damaged the PC's badly and I made sure to share out the punishment. He even dropped the juggernaut with only his claws. Party never did look at a kobold the same way twice. :)

LOL

Gotta remember that for my own games. Maybe a Goblin Frenzy Berzerker. :)

I tone down my optimization for that game to keep things fun for other people besides me. LOL

Twink out all you want. Just remember, as the GM, I have unlimited resources, so I can out-twink any character you come up with. :)

Experience, smart tactics, wise use of magic....all which can go out the window when your DM has read the article about Tucker's Kobolds. Never should have loaned by DM that issue of Dragon (Issue #127).

If interested check out the article online at http://www.tuckerskobolds.com/

Any updates for those of us subscribers still pending?

I'm not in the screaming crowd, but I am surprised to find myself still waiting, and curious for an update.

Thanks

Yeah well a GM can make any monster super tough, but getting defeated by kobolds RAW means your group sucks a$$ LOL Except maybe LVL 1. At that point even giant rats might cause problems.

Orix the Kobold Marshal of Dooooooooom.

If you want a quick way to bring the PF kobold up to equal with a PF Core character, you can add the Draconic Creature template for RotD/Draconomicon. The stats go up to net +2 and none of the added abilities are redonkulous. Given than the baseline kobold is really an LA -1 critter, adding the +1 LA template cancels out (more or less IMO).

Actually, Seeker was not included.

Rumor has it that the bestiary PDF should be out "about" today. :-) Does it look like it will be today afterall, or no? I am waiting on Amazon, and willing to fork out an extra $10 to be able to use it sooner. :D

Yup! It's available and I got me one!

The owner of my local game store told me yesterday that the book will be officially available today (21st) which is also what I'm reading here. He does his ordering from his distributors on Thursdays. So even though he's reserved 4 of them he won't officially "ask" for it until tomorrow. He says they'll be delivered the next day on Friday.

I get off work at 3. I have a one hour commute. I expect to have one in my hands by 4:02pm on Friday. I will be back home and in geek bliss by 4:20pm

heh heh heh. I can't wait.

Lisa,

On another thread you mentioned that an email went out asking if us subscribers wanted to wait for Seekers or ship the bestiary separately. Did you find out if that email went out? I know I didn't receive it if it did, because I really don't feel like being the last to receive the book is right.

I can vouch for never receiving an email about the problem. I wouldn't have changed my shipping options, but I never got an email about doing so either.

*wonders whether it's worth paying the US$9.95 to finally get the Bestiary PDF rather than waiting longer for the subscription copy*

To be clear, that e-mail was directed only to people who had their subscriptions set to ship *separately*, and were—contrary to their stated preference—having their shipment held up by the unexpected last-minute delay on Seekers. The (few dozen) people in that situation have been sent another e-mail today.

People who had set their combined subs to ship out *monthly* were never supposed to get an email, as their subs were processed exactly as specified. "Hold for monthly" means that we hold anything that comes in early in the month until *everything* due that month has arrived, and then we ship it all at once to decrease shipping fees. Everything we're expecting this month has now arrived, and the "hold for monthly" shipments are now going out.

As I mentioned in the other thread about this situation, I was one of those "dozen or so" who had never hold anything, and did get the email today. I complained enough when I didn't know when I would ever get the books sent, and now that I have the email I'll thank you all. We all make mistakes and your kind email, and bonus were an example of your exemplary customer service. I'd be willing to bet this won't happen again.

This is fine, except for the issue that the 'coming in a week or so' email was sent to the subscribers in this second group (including myself) over two weeks ago. (I received the email it on 7th Oct).

The email begins

"Thank you for your continuing support of Paizo Publishing!

In the next week or so, we're expecting to ship the next product of your subscription."

Unfortunately this thread gives the impression that Paizo take this to mean:

This order may ship in a week or so, or some indeterminate time in the future once delayed parts of the shipment are in stock. You will not be informed about these delays.

I think that, if the product is delayed AFTER this email is sent, customer service and common curtsy would be a follow up email informing these customers of the delay.

One of the following should have occurred to keep these subscribers up to date:

* A follow-up email with a notification of the delay.

* A message on the order itself to indicate the delay - unfortunately, in my opinion the line "Expected October 2009" status seeker does not adequately convey this message.

* An announcement in the blog that there is a delay.

None of these occurred, leaving subscribers to hunt through message board discussions to find out why there subscription has not shipped.

I happily accept that delays occur and are unavoidable, I do not accept that subscribers are not informed about those delays.

In summary, I beleive that this issue can be described as "A Failure To Communicate".

As of this posting, my order is STILL pending

Is this a customer service thread?

Has Classic Monster: Revisited been folded into the new Bestiary?

Manictao wrote:

No, the Bestiary is the Bestiary. It is basic info on the critters, but has many of them.

Classic Monsters Revisited is a critters revisited book. They give you the extra long treatment for about 10 critters.

I find it odd being a subscriber I figured I would have recieved an email by now saying "we are charging you X amount and you will get the book in a week or two", but I havent heard word one yet. Not a peep. Is it possible I was skipped?

I wonder if they are feeding the shipping kobolds or are they rebelling again.

It could be an error, or it could depend on how you've got your account set up to ship. If you're set to ship your subscriptions with the Adventure Path, you'll miss out this month unless you change your shipping settings because this month's AP has been delayed until next month.

Some of the stuff from classic monsters is in there, certainly a lot of the spirit of classic monsters is imbued in the flavor. They are in no way redundant though.
