Monty Haul |
As the rest of you congregate by the door, Cenciach flies up towards the chest in the centre of the mass of spears. Shortly after entering the area beneath the spear tips, the small dragon suddenly begins to plummet towards the roof, his head swimming at the sudden reversal of gravity.
Frantically spinning to right himself as he tumbles towards the roof, he is able to right himself, coming to rest and hovering, upside down, a foot from the spears embedded in the ceiling in the centre of the room.
Can I get perception checks from everyone?
Monty Haul |
Grakl's perception:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
After recovering from the disorienting reversal of gravity, Cenciach flies closer towards the chest. As he does so, it quivers slightly, almost as if tensing. The little dragon fails to notice, however Grakl and Milaniel are both able to act as suddenly two pseudopods emerge from the chest's side and flail wildly at the ethereal dragon.
Initiative:
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10(Mimic) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9(Milaniel) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23(Grakl)
Monty Haul |
Initiative for those surprised:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 (Cenciach) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 (Saamasal) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 (Yhum Yhum)
Initiative order:
Grakl
Cenciach (surprised)
Yhum Yhum (surprised)
Mimic
Milaniel
Saamasal (surprised)
Milaniel and Grakl can post a single action for this round as the Mimic attempts to ensare Cenciach with its pseudopods.
Monty Haul |
Grakl launches himself under the spears and towards the mimc, his trajectory suddenly shifting as he is hurled upwards, towards the spears, twenty feet above your heads.
Acrobatics Check:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
The goblin twists in the air, swinging his feet deftly around to land in a clear section of floor, avoiding the spears and leaving himself poised over the mimic as it flails at Cenciach.
Grakl takes 1d6 ⇒ 3 non-lethal falling damage.
With an incoherent raw, the mimic's pseudopod lashes out towards Cenciach, attempting to snatch him from the air. Swooping 'low' over the spearheads, the tiny dragon just managing to dodge clear.
Attack:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Damage:1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Responding before the others, Milaniel's keening fills the chamber, the rest of you feeling a swell of confidence as you move to react to the unexpected attack.
Monty Haul |
Saamasal simply looks on in shock as the chest lashes out at the dragon.
Knowledge(Dungeoneering), does Saamasal know what it is? 1d20+11
You all know of the existence of mimics, those trained in dungeoneering can attempt to remember more:
DC 15 Dungeoneering:

Currently Milaniel, Saamasal and Yhum Yhum are by the door on the floor. Grakl is standing on the ceiling, right beside the mimic. Cenciach is hovering just nearby - also within range of its pseudopods.

If I'm familiar with the area around me, do I know how 'high' I can risk going before switching again?
Cenciach flies as 'high' as he dares, then turns to the mimic 'below' him and lets loose a torrent of force energy.Damage 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8, Reflex DC 13 for half.
Grakl Longtooth |
No prob Yuhm, Grakl like Cenc and Mili, he seems them as good allies...he's kinda scared of the Gith and doesn't really like Yuhm LoL.
Knowledge (Dungeoneering).1d20 ⇒ 19 +10 = 29
"Cenci fly clear..." Once Grakl sees that the dragon is safely out of reach, he grabs one of the spears and vaults himself out of the field and onto the ground.
acrobatics 1d20 ⇒ 4 + 13 = 17 Ouch that one might hurt a bit.
Monty Haul |
Cenciach circles clear of the mimic and its flailing pseudopods, keeping within the forest of spears as those below crane their necks up at the strangely confusing inverted, aerial display. The tiny dragon's blast of force slams into the stationary creature which emits a loud cry of pain and recoils from the blast.
Meanwhile, Grakl swings himself clear jumping 'up and out' towards the floor where the rest of you wait. As he emerges from the gravity field, the agile goblin twists in an attempt to find his feet, however the sudden reversal of gravity is faster than he thinks and he slams into the floor at the party's feet, barely breaking his fall with his arms as the wind is knocked from him
Falling damage:2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9 hit points to Grakl.
With its prey suddenly out of reach, the creature retreats into the field of spears, its form becoming fluid as it hunkers down, trying to take cover from the dragon hovering in the middle of the room. As you watch, it's colouration shifts, gradually taking the form of stone as it spreads out across the ceiling, squeezing itself between the spears.
Monty Haul |
The mimic appears to be taking cover as best it can, spreading out as wide as possible across the roof. A piteous, sobbing sound coming from somewhere unseen.
Next up Milaniel and Saamasal
Grakl:
Milaniel the Mourner |
Milaniel's chant becomes mocking laughter. "Little mimic, all alone, hopes to find some yummy bones, now tastes instead the bite of pain - all its tricks are now in vain!" she singsongs, giggling as she watches it try to hide. Ending bardic performance - we can either mop this up or ignore it at our leisure, I think.

Sorry to say, I have to confirm what you are all no doubt suspecting. I will not be able to continue with my various PBP games - personal reasons I'm afraid and not likely to change in the foreseeable future.
Apologies to all of you for limping along over the last few months - thanks for playing, but I'm just unable to fit it in with the rest of my life.
