Excited for the Villain Voting!

RPG Superstar™ 2009 General Discussion

Legendary Games, Necromancer Games

Well, I've done all of my villain reviews for the top 32 and alts. Some of them are very, very good. But obviously all of them can't advance.

I liked this part of the contest last year and I really like it again this year, because this is the time where it doesnt matter so much what *I* think, it matters what all of *YOU* think. Hopefully my (and collectively, "our") thoughts and comments help you in your analysis, discussion and decision, but I think it is so cool that you guys really decide who advances. Not us.

So, having done my reviews, I can't wait to see how this all plays out and I am excited to cast my votes for this round just like everyone else!

The dancing villains? Now there's an interesting mental image...

This is the round I've been looking forward to since the contest format was announced. There's nothing better than a good villain to drive a campaign in any roleplaying system. The PCs are the most important thing of course, but good villains provide the motivation that drive the PCs to action.

Oooo a clue. How much do you want to bet that one of the villains is trained in classical ballet. ^_^

I've used a ballerina as a major villain in a campaign I ran before, but I didn't invent her... she was actually canon. (The Ghost Dancer, from the Nightmare Lands in Ravenloft.)

That being said, the "dancing villains" didn't make me visualize a villain who was actually a trained dancer, as much as it did all the villains in the round dancing together in a chorus line. (Though granted, it was kind of a vague visualization since I don't know what the other villains in the round look like yet. When I do, it'll probably become even more amusing...)

Tapdancing Golem of Doom! You shall be ground to paste by the perfect rhythm of his horrible feet!

Just picture last year's villains, and you get a mental image on par with any superhero comic lineup. Mundane and whack, all neatly lined up and... dancing, if that word still is appropriate.

This will get quite entertaining!

Kept.

Just don't let Boomer enter, lest we face the wrath of the Dancing Crackling Whirling.

I'm picturing the Dr. McNinja cartoon with all the zombie presidents doing the dance from Thriller.

Any official word on when/if we'll be allowed to post pictures? Because every good character, villainous or otherwise, can benefit from a spiffy portrait.

I'm thinking the answer will be "after voting on Round 2 is over". While anyone would love to have art for his villain - including me - every other entry without art would seem somewhat lacking.

This just puts writers who can't draw at a disadvantage during the voting. Especially if it's some kickass art! :)

Heh, I still have that box set downstairs in my archives! I still read through it for inspiration for my games to this day.

Woe to any villain who doesn't have feet!

Well, that's assuming you're posting a picture of your own villain. Personally, inspired by... a comment in some other thread that I was going to link to but can't find now... I was thinking of trying to make pictures of all the other villains. (Could be fun, and I could use the drawing practice.) I mean, sure, posting a picture of my villain could be construed as trying to comment further on it before the round is over, but I don't know that it's a problem to post a picture of someone else's villain; I'm allowed to comment on those, after all...

(I suppose one could argue that if I draw pictures of all the other villains I'm putting myself at a disadvantage by having my villain be the only one left out, but, eh, I don't think it'd be a major factor. Actually, though, this whole plan hinges on my having the free time to actually do all this artwork, and given the typical amount of free time I have lately, that seems unlikely...)

What you propose is awesome - if you manage to do it (assuming the judges allow you), hats off to you, sir.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16 aka eotbeholder

Awesome indeed (if legal)- maybe we could split the load, so everyone's gets covered and it's half as much work for each of us? Could we get some kind of official word on this?

Email dispatched inquiring regarding villains and artwork.

Personally I would think that since a picture is traditionally 'worth a thousand words' it would take anyone posting art waaaaaay over the word count for the round, but the current economic crisis may have considerably deflated that figure.... :D

Thanks Clark. I was intending to ask if the alternates could have some comment on their creations too - even if that comment was only given to the alternates themselves and was not for general consumption that would be great.

With all the hard work getting them prepped up, no one wants to see a pack of darstardly villains simply disappear without even a whimper or a comment.

Posting artwork based on your own villain is definitely *not* OK. I don't have a problem with you posting artwork based on somebody else's villain—so long as it's ok with them.

Right; that I already figured. Like I said, I planned to skip my own villain; I knew that would be against the rules.

Vic Wertz wrote:

Fair enough. So, I guess that means we'll have to ask if it's okay.

So... who's up for having a picture drawn of their villain after they're posted? Wait--rather than clutter this thread with that, maybe I should start another thread for this question...

The big guy can rock the party, I'll tell you that - ten tons of loving, getting down with his bad self!

OOooh! Yeah!

... actually, I just re-checked his stats. He's got a Dex of 24 - as far as I can tell, he'd actually be a really, REALLY good dancer.

For a thirty-foot tall creature made out of alabaster, I mean.

I'm excited too. Its like I'm in a dungeon and I know there are 32 bad mo-fo down here; Knights of Cydonia just starting playing in the back ground and I'm pretty sure I'm not living through this.
