You guys are great and Nerrat's off to school as proud as punch after reading Clark's comments. As for a 'superstar' tag, I say make him work for it. I always make him work for stuff because he can. ;-)
He's already started preparing for next year's contest by reading the copious amounts of feedback that the judges and paizonians are giving to other items just as he really honed his ideas before submission by reading comments on last year's items.
Maybe close to, say, Father's Day we forumites can organize an informal, off-topic thread, friendly, low competition Kid RPG Superstar contest. ... We could get Boomer to judge but I heard he's evil.

I know I would be hesitant about wanting my kid to have special tag. For one thing it will increase the pressure to submit next year but it also raises questions like how long does he get to keep it and such. (Superkid tags, stickers, etc are cool when you are eight but kids grow up)
But I would think it would be cool to have a contest for kids. I think I could talk at least three of my four into participating.

mmmm decisions decisions...
the Nerrat deserves it... right
adn while we all agree he already earned it... his fatheris right he can do better and surelly will
Wicht wrote:But I would think it would be cool to have a contest for kids.I would totally apply, but by the time RPG Superstar 2010 comes around, I'll be twenty. Dang, this year was my last chance to enter as a teen.
kids :P
meaning 14 and below :P above 16 you are charged as guilty as adult...err sorry i was confusing with persecution laws in my country :P

You know I think he should get an Honorary Superstar tag :)
Not just because he is 8. But because he is 8 and because he submitted an item that we didnt suspect was from a kid :) I dont want to be in a position where every kid who enters gets a prize.
Honourary spawn of Orcus instead?

I totally respect a parent who wants their kid to work hard to earn accolades. I suspect this parenting philosophy has a lot to do with the fact that Nerrat was able to do so well in the first place.
And I'd like to second (third?) the idea of a special RPG Superstar contest for kids, formal or otherwise.

I'd certainly vote for a "nod" for Nerrat, however a lot of other folks have stated valid reasons for not giving him "Honorary" status.
I think he worked for and earned it, but I can see the 'concerns' that others have mentioned... many entered and only 32 were selected. (And there are surely others as deserving for an Honorary tag.)
Heh... so I'm on the fence. I mean I won't be upset if in fact he gets an Honorary Superstar tag... can't say how others may react.
As always... that's my two coppers. (Hmmm the hoard keeps getting smaller every time I do that.) ;)
I hope that I don't upset anyone with my opinion on this, that's not my intent, just giving my thoughts as others have.

they are not 8 year old kids that leave the judges thinking they were adult :P

I vote for this. Excessive praise at an early age is bad for a child... ask Lucius Malfoy. He'll tell you that straight out.

I guess I'd leave it in the hands of his parents. If their parenting principles lead them to say dont give the honorary title, then I think we resepct that wish. Given that is what his father has said, I remove my request for the title and support the parent's position.
Ad my voice to those supporting his pop's idea.:D

I really think that a Pathfinder Prodigy (Son of Superstar, Pathfinder Spawn, Superstar Junior) contest would be neat to arrange. Maybe have two age categories (7-10, 11-14). Also maybe it should be less rules heavy and more story driven (design a character with backstory, write a villain backstory, Propose an Adventure Plot) and make it about three rounds in length. The main difficulties would be figuring out a submission method, picking judges and/or establishing a voting system. If you're going to do it, you would also want to announce it about a month in advance so that the kids would have time to find out about it.

Add my support for a "Junior Superstar" contest!
Accept for my apologies for overstepping my bounds and starting this thread. :-(
You didn't overstep bounds at all. I really appreciate the suggestion. I'm just a hard-ass parent. In my own defense though, Nerrat did tell me he couldn't promise to vote for me in the next round. He said I'd have to earn his vote. I'm cool with that. ;-)

I just wanted to say that in the short expanse of this thread you've expressed yourself as a really good parent. I wanted to point that out to you as a positive thing since it's not something us parents hear all that often.
I look forward to being able to do these types of things with my son as he grows older.

Well, I don't really need a tag. But I really appreciate the support you have here. Thank you Taig for opening this petition-thread. And thank you Clark for giving helpful and supportive comments. And thank you everybody for your support!
I really, really, really, like this idea for a two age group, kid superstar contest. I like a 7-10 year old age group (the name could be RPG Ministars) and an 11-14 year old age group (name could be could be Teenstars) Anyways, it's a great idea.

I actually sympathized with Snape from almost the beginning of the series and was convinced before the final book was released that Snape was one of the most misunderstood characters in fictional history.
And what's not to like about Hermione?
Now Potter on the other hand... He always struck me as just a little bit too self absorbed. :)

The biggest jerk in the series, really, is James Potter. What did Lily ever see in him? I suppose he had a pretty face and enough of a 'bad boy' streak to draw her in and no one can say what causes matters of the heart to do what they do. I just think about the two of them, and while Lily's positive qualities are emphasized over and over, did James have ANY redeeming qualities? I mean, really? Maybe I'm misremembering, but as far as I recall everything we know about him is that he was pretty much of a jerk.
Just my personal bit of a rant. FWIW, Hermione, Fred and George, and Snape were prolly my favorite characters in the series.

Fred and Geoerge got on my nerves, though I agree with the choice Snape.
And Hermione was definitely my favorite character. Which is strange, because I read an interview in which J.K. Rowling implied that Hermione was supposed to be an unsympathetic, annoying know-it-all. I suppose she was a bit of a know-it-all, but I didn't find her all that annoying.
(Um, yeah, and insert some random on-topic comment here.)

I'm flattered! Not only would I love to judge the competition, I'm quite certainly evil, evil and EVIL. Josh Frost said so - and that man knows him some evil!
If the opportunity arises to make some kids cry, well ... I'm in!

Yeah, that is actually a really good idea.
In all seriousness, I'd love to be a part of any kind of project like this - I was running D&D games at the age of 12, and submitting to Dragon Magazine not long after that, and this sort of thing deserves support & recognition.
Also, someone might submit a really elegant execution of the "summon shocker lizard in a can" effect that I've been rolling around in the back of my head - once it's property of Paizo, I can slip it into my next Pathfinder Society Scenario and get paid for words written by someone else.
And THAT'S the true meaning of Superstar!
