Hey, I'm a 3.x player that really wants nothing to do with 4e (much in the same way I want nothing to do with the Hero RPG -- take that, Court Fool!*). That said, however, I'm quite content to accept that other people like 4e and wish them well in their gaming habits. I also want them to feel welcome here on the Paizo boards and as members of the Paizo community.
I'm sick of the edition wars and the zealots (on both sides), and would like to extend my hand to all the gamers out there that are content to let each other play the game they want without jumping down their throats or insulting them (except Court Fool*). So, I invite anyone (whichever side of the edition fence they stand) that wants to bridge this divide in our community to post here with their own overtures of unity. Or whatever.
Haters, jerks and poopyheads need not apply -- stop making these boards unwelcoming for the members of our community whose gaming tastes differ from yours (unless they play Hero*).
Sure, I realize this thread may not have the intended effect, but I'm curious to see who amongst us subscribe to a "game and let game" attitude.... And, why not?

I'll throw my hat in here. I have done my share of bashing maybe I should not have but I have tried to give advice when it was useful to. 4E isn't my game like gurps isn't my game. So game on which ever game or games ya want to play.
Oh I may still show my dislike of wotc or 4e realms but not the players and i'll try not to bash the system really

I appreciate the spirit in which Azzy started this thread but in all honestly it is far too late for this. Paizo's boards are known far and wide as the place to really hate on 4E. This forum (not the whole board but the 4E forum in particular) is a regular joke on a couple of the boards I frequent. It is too bad but there are plenty of other places to discuss the merits and flaws of 4E without being shouted down by the 'haters'.
WotC's Nightmare |
I'll go ahead and jump on board as well. 4E may not be my favorite system to play. IMHO, it seems to have potential, but only with a lot of work and some serious errata. If 4E's your thing, go ahead and play it, and I will play Pathfinder and 3.5. Let's stop the hate (except for the paladin's divine challenge) and have civil discussions.

It is never too late to avoid zealotry!
I do want a critical disucssion on the boards about the merits and flaws of 4th edition and all things that tie in with 4th edition.
Being critical without flaming the game or -and IMO that is even more important- other gamers is the way to go.

Thing is, there are plenty of boards where you can discuss the merits of 4th. But if you try to point out flaws of the system that you percieve you get shouted down by the 'lovers'. I do not want to condone the behaviour of some of the posters on these boards, but the shouting down can go two ways.

I can agree with that.

I don't agree. Decency from either side (not necessarily both) would go a long way.
Not that I disagree with you about this board's reputation. It's especially sad because these forums are, in my experience, some of the best around -- with this one very notable exception. But the poison comes from both sides (regardless of who might have started it).

Meh. Fuzion ended up pissing off both Hero fans (like you, you damned cupacabra) and Interlock fans (like me). There were a lot of good ideas, but the execution left a lot to be desired. It was too rushed, felt incomplete (especially compared to its parent games), was poorly edited, had a really bad layout (until later games) and was never properly supported for most of the games that used it.
On its own, Fuzion isn't a bad system (actually, it cleans up really well). Especially if you add in some of the options from one of its parent systems that mysteriously got left out. Not sure I'd use it as a base for Champions (I don't do supers, so I can't really comment there), but in making it more like Interlock I've found that it works great for sci-fi, modern, and near future games. It's definitely a fixer-upper, though.

No, just casually taunting.
I was too involved in other things at the time and never purchased that particular version, or the current edition for that matter (which I forgot is actually Fifth), but I did catch some hints of the frenzying over it.I was a big player of 4th Edition, using the book long after the lousy binding disintegrated.
Anyway, Sixth is due out with Champions Online, so all of that is moot.
Right?
:-P

Sorry dude, but its true. Try posting something "non-standard" on the TML and see how ugly it gets.
There are a lot more, lot nastier, Traveller fans lurking on the web than D&D edition and setting war berserkers roaming around. You have to look at the upside of that:
It means this place really is not the worst!

I'm down with some cross-system love. Things can get pretty bad out here in the 4E kennel.
But my pessimism tells me this won't go far. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, as they say.
I'm with the folks that say ignore the flame-bait, intentional or otherwise (and I whoelheartedly believe many people have no idea they're poking the badger when they post- seriously I do). If the thread's something like "New Bacon Attack: Unbalanced?", and you've got a thought on the matter, post away. If the thread degrades into ugliness, move on. And if you see a thread with a title along the lines of "4E #@*%s it up again", don't even click on it. Internet-published opinion is virtually impossible to "change"; arguing only wastes precious minutes of your life.
Now, who wants pie?

Hey!
Aslan women in comfortable shoes can practice piracy and throw near-c rocks at people playing TNE at the same time.
And if you understand that, WE ARE TRAVELLER.
