Well I could...oh, bad jokes. Nevermind.

So I totally killed the party fighter last night. The risks of running without a screen and getting a streak of 20s. :)

Adventuring is a risky business. If success were guaranteed, there would be no farmers or tradesmen.

Tell me about your current campaign, TOZ. It might help to sate my tabletop urge, some.

Hmm. I want to, but I want to run this campaign for the group if I end up in Houston long enough. I'll have to post spoiler free stuff when I can. Like Amras facing off with a drow fighter and getting waxed. XD

That's fair, but I'd be more interested in the PCs and fun NPCs than the adventures, anyway.

Well, the poor gnome shopkeeper whose familiar they failed to rescue is a common joke. The eladrin player role-played his unfamiliarity with mortal grieving (not really, the player just wanted to mess with the gnome) by offering him the cage the kidnappers held it in. He's now no longer allowed within 100ft of the gnome, who is under constant calm emotions spells. He did get a good hit in with the cage tho. :) So now the eladrin is not allowed to talk to gnomes.

No luck finding any other players, then? I'm afraid that some of my co-workers would forcibly perform an exorcism on me, if I were to ask them. Derek? You still out there, buddy?

Liberty's Edge

I'm here, I'm working construction and it takes me out of town for weeks at a time for now. And I'm dealing with a bunch of stuff concerning my ex (call me sometime if you're interested in any of that, it's pretty effed up).

I miss the game BAD. I really want to get down with some Cadogan, it would help me funnel some of the stuff going on into some nice, safe fantasy homicide...

Kirth Gersen wrote:

Well, I haven't actually tried. ENWorld has a new Gamers Seeking Gamers system in place. I looked at that a few weeks back and saw a few people in the area, and Obsidian Portal has a similar feature that had people in the area when I last checked it months ago. Work and prego have been keeping me busy, however. Lots of traveling visiting relatives since we probably won't do that much traveling after the little guy gets here. Other pregnancy preparations, too.

I think part of it is that I don't want to bring someone else into a game only to have it end a couple months later when I become a dad.

Plus, my online pbp games have slowed to a crawl. I don't want to hassle the GMs if they're getting burned out or if they're just busy with life, but the one post every four days isn't much fun. It makes me want to just start my own pbp game.

Gotcha -- that makes sense.

Re: PBP games, after the first two I tried randomly dissolved for no apparent reason, I gave up on those.

I've off and on considered an online tabletop, but getting everyone connected has always been the issue. Of course, it would be great practice if I used the same voicechat programs that my brigade command uses.

Kirth Gersen wrote:

They're lots of fun for rp-heavy styles if you have a consistent group. I play with some online friends whom I've known for years, which contributes to its longevity. I wouldn't hold out much hope of a long-running game with gaming strangers, however.

Reading the posts in the 'fudging rolls' threads I'm debating going screenless now that the party is 8th level. Maybe they will coordinate tactics more.

Make sure you know your group! As I've learned, players are hard to replace.

I started a discussion about the challenge level of those two sessions on my group. So far the dead fighter was unhappy about the 50 hp mooks. :)

TriOmegaZero wrote:

You discuss things with the players, instead of telling them to suck it up, because you're the boss?

Oh, the horrors!

I kno rite?

I guess the AC 33 fighter was a little much as well. The antipaladin went down like a chump thanks to not having Deflect Arrows. My wife's Ranger is real good with her bow.

Was I happy someone died? no.  Was it perhaps a sobering wake-up call, at least IC? oh yeah.

I'm glad someone got it.

I understand they make Google Sites and Docs redundant, but I liked having it all in one spot. :/

Another fun note about my SCAP party. They were having some trouble coming up with a party name. Quite understandable with lizard and catfolk members among them. Since they were unable to really pin one down, I get to play with it.

When they were introduced by the herald at the high society ball, it was as the Menagerie. (This was not the name they had chosen.) Plenty of nobles tittered at the title, the party was irritated. They rationalized it away by saying 'that's what the nobles call us, we know who we really are, St. Arbucks Avengers!'

Yes, they really call themselves Starbucks Avengers.

But this session, when they get jumped by bandits and start handing out beatdowns, I'll have the leader call off the raid with a mention of 'it's dem avenger blokes!'

Should make the party feel good about themselves. The nobles call them one name, the commons by another.

Last night's session was awesome. Players were tying up loose ends left and right, and putting puzzle pieces together at the same time. Now they have an idea of what the bad guys are up to, and they know it's bad news.

Move to Austin? :P

In other news, Google Docs is not that bad. Kind of similar to what Groups Pages was.

The city built for 100,000 with 800,000 residents and counting? No thanks!

"The game is at 7:00 pm, shouldn't we have left yet?"
"Dude, it's only noon."
"Yeah, but the DM's house is almost two miles from here."

Maybe we just have the right timing. Of course, my friends house and the house we game at is only a couple miles apart. Only takes us 15 minutes to get there.

Getting to the first house on the other hand...

That's why everyone has a bike or a scooter there. ;)

I don't know when my car will be out of the shop, but if your schedule is clear this week or next week, maybe we can get a session or two in.

Just checking, are the anecdotes helping you Andostre, or just making the lack of gaming worse?

Well, the best part of last session was when the party asked their town guard contact why the evil cleric they had killed thought he was a good sacrifice. They got really worried when he answered 'she's my ex-wife, what did you do with her?'

Took them awhile to man up and answer while I was repeating the question in a serious tone. :)

So gang, what are the chances of you guys having the session on the 11th earlier than usual?

TriOmegaZero wrote:

With advance notice, I can get home and prep 1-2 hours earlier. I'm not sure that's true of Andostre, however.

Wasn't sure if you guys have Columbus Day off or not. Figured it would be worth a shot. Have to find out if Cyzzane needs to skip class or not. Her college is hit or miss with these holidays...

NY public schools were even better. Everyone was either Jewish or Italian, so we got all the Roman Catholic holidays off (even the really obscure ones), and also all the Jewish holidays.

Hey, my car is in the shop (electrical problem they haven't found in over a week now), and I am not sure if it'll be out by Monday. Kirth, could you call Androstre and see if he can scoop me up if I don't have it back? I don't have his number for some reason.

Derek, sent you an e-mail with my phone number. A ride is no problem.

I won't be able to start any earlier than I usually do, sorry. But if the rest of you guys want to start without me, I can catch up when I get there.

I think, with the amount of work I have ahead of me from Tuesday until we go to California, I'm not up to the trip down there. I'm sorry guys. Hopefully I'll have a Monday/Tuesday off at some point. I know I'll be taking a few weeks in December and not going anywhere.

No apologies needed. The #1 rule of my campaign is that real life always comes before D&D.

Of course, that doesn't prevent us from griping incessantly whenever the game is postponed...
