I'll be there and definitely looking forward to it!
I'm fine with playing Jazeed and his underlings Monday night, but next week it might be cool if we switch over to the A-team ('A' stands for "Agun," naturally) since that's when TOZ and his wife will be in town, and I believe they've only played their characters for that team once or twice.
Derek: I'm off on Monday, too. Can you make it early? If so, let me know what time, and I'll show up early, also.

I'll check with Morgan and see what her schedule looks like. If she can break free early, I'm down for an extended session.

@ HD: Definitely give Bob quick sober as his cantrip if his Wis is 10+ (he should probably take the -2 to Int). He gets a bonus feat and skill point already for being human, and 4 skills/level (= 4+1-1, assuming Int 8) plus free max ranks in Survival and Endurance ought to be more than enough skills!
Assuming elite array, he'd be Str 15, Dex 13, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 12, Cha 10, with skills Endurance +6, Handle Animal +4, Survival +5, and 3 others -- is that sort of along the lines of what you were thinking?
Kirth Gersen |
Cool, one last question, then I'll post him here. Does he still get the +2 racial mod to stats with the elite array, or is it just the straight array, no mods?
Good question... go ahead and give it to him, since he IS human, after all. I'll build other NPCs the same way, so it'll all come out in the wash.

RE: Favored terrain, "urban" implies something like Hylore or NYC; for Bob, maybe give him "Frontier Settlements" instead -- he'd move freely through areas with barrels, ditches, muddy potholes, and crops -- and his bonuses would apply to outdoor settlements of humanoids as well (orc villages, etc).

Do we know which party we need to be ready for, and should we be making any adjustments?
I think Andostre recommended the A-team (with the monk and rogue), like when we did the haunted house and the Quicklime Syndicate. Which is good, because I know Derek has been itching to play Cadogan again...
Everyone should be 5th level at this point, unless I'm confused.

I started contributing a bit. Fun idea.
Thanks! You actually spurred the concept, when you mentioned liking the idea of having feats for different weapons/styles. It occurred to me that I could save a lot of feat writeups by moving this mechanism into the weapons section instead. Then we can still have more general feats for two-handed weapons or whatever, but we can add, in effect, fun feats for each individual weapon as well, if we want to.

Bob's stats look really good! I like the name, too. The favored enemy makes perfect sense if he's sick of people kicking him around when he's drunk -- like Dean Martin in "Rio Bravo" -- it might be worth working out a backstory for him, assuming he doesn't get knocked off anytime soon.
Minor changes: Favored enemy categories have been expanded; Bob gets +2 vs. all civilized humanoids (most humans, high elves, mountain dwarves, etc.), but not against barbarian tribes, wood elf clans, orc bands, etc.
Also, don't forget his favored terrain, as discussed above.

According to "Ranger Reloaded" (yeah, I really DO read your e-mails!), he won't get that until either second or third level now.
I really like the Rio Bravo line of thought, one of my favorite movies! And, yeah, I think it fits the broken man archetype perfectly for Bob.
And I had a question about the cleric rewrite: is there a mistake in the chart/text? It says they get a 4th and 8th level domain power now, but only the 4th level ones are listed in the domain texts. This is vital for Morgan's cleric character (who is fairly bad ass, but I'm sure the peanut gallery will tear my build up again on Monday ;) ), and I want to make sure she's correct for the game.

Some domains get the power at 4th level, and some at 8th. The general class text says "4th and 8th level" in case they've picked one domain that gets the power at 4th and the other at 8th. I think there might even be domains that get powers at both levels.

Guys, I'm sorry to just break in here but 1683 posts is a bit much to go through. Anyway, I'm living in Katy now and so I'm looking for a game somewhere out here on the west side of town. Anybody know of anything?
I'm on the west side of town -- Westchase district, just off Beltway 8. It ain't Katy by a long shot, but it's an easy trip in on I-10 -- if that's close enough, give me a heads up in a couple of weeks (after 7/30) and maybe we can grab a beer, talk gaming, and see if you're still interested?
Be warned, we play with a LOT of houserules. All classes have been rewritten (especially the martial ones), and combat feats mostly scale with BAB.

Anyone getting anything good from the APG? I had to giggle at the feat that lets casters use a spell slot to fire a ray that does 2d6+1d6/spell level sacrificed. 'Yes, I want to be able to do 11d6 to one target with a 9th level spell.' Sounds like something for the people who don't want to deal with spell preparation. *rolls eyes*

I've been reading through it, and I like how they have different options to make, say, a dwarf fighter different from a human fighter. They do that for a lot of the class/race combos.
Overall, I think that a lot of the race and core class options will fit into Kirth's system very smoothly, if anyone wanted them. Heck, it seemed like half of them already are in Kirth's system.
Welcome back, Kirth! Have a good time?

Heh. If you want to make sure they have the right names in Version 2.0 of the houserules, you'll have to lend me your copy. I'd hate to spend money for stuff I've already come up with independently!

I really am sorry about this. The Monday game is one of the few things I really enjoy in life right now (spending time with Arwen being the other), but I have too much uncertainty in my life right now to think I could contribute much to everyone's enjoyment. I don't want to be a buzzkill, I've already been that for too many people in recent weeks.
