Human

Taya seems to be developing a history of helping the helpless. It's her way of compensating for the pride that lead to her losing the children in the wood.

I think she would be very shy about meeting an elf, because she would be thinking of Finwe as more of a wild creature than a person at first, but if Taya keeps half-seeing Finwe out of the corner of her eye when she's working with the youngstock, they could begin a tentative friendship. Taya and Nagy are close, and if Finwe came to trust Taya enough, they could meet through her.

Is that plausible?

The Exchange

I'd agree. Otto?

The alias Dron Drox is pretty much how I would like to see the character sheets.

The sections that matter to the DM are the training ones and the skills. So if you have a preferred way of doing an alias then so long as I can read those bits quickly and easily, go for it.

My next step is to hand out your bits that need completing for level one. I shall probably do that individually for ease.

Cheers

That sounds perfect to me as well. Finwe is also extremely timid, not out of fear or shyness, but simply because she has such small amount of interaction experience. I would picture her lurking outside the fences, befriending the animals when no others are aroundl, maybe a little closer each day, and one morning Taya comes out at dawn to find her perching atop a fence post watching Taya intently. Finwe wants to get close to the animals but she knows she must befriend Taya, who seems like a person she can relate to.

She will instigate this 'friendship' by stalking Taya from the shadows, trying to get and stay as close to her as possible without being seen. This will include entering into any buildings or homes if possible. If caught FInwe will fight of flee with the sharpened stick she carries. She admires the people though, and would never attack to injure, just to escape. IF that happens, Finwe will lay low for a few days (maybe going back to the halflings inn) until her interest in Taya draws her back to the ranch.

Finwe will try to impress Taya by doing acrobatics: using her lithe body to mimic owl, hawk, and lynx attacks.

(This is Finwe's understanding of how to begin a relationship)

Finwe's immediate aspirations are: to get a dagger, the finer the better, she likes pretty objects, especially silver. To get a big voluminous dark cloak. To befriend Taya, to have a conversation with a person, and to improve her animal-strike abilities thru acrobatic practice.

(Elves have a strandard knowledge of bow and sword, but I think Finwe would be an exception to that rule. However, I see her as needing a bow to survive, even if it is a crudely crafted bow that could do no more that damage a rabbit. Is this ok, DM?)

Thanks.

No elven proficiencies, but she can have a very old goblin bow, until she has borrowed/made/stolen something more useful.

Because she has been in the woods most of the time she doesn't get the normal elven decades spent playing with sword and bow.

However she is a wood elf as per the Monster Manual, and not a standard elf. That means she gets +2 Str, +2 dex, -2 Con, -2 Cha. Greyhawk has several types of elves and that one fits her persona best.

F Wild Elf Fey Saboteur 0.0

Perfect. 5 Constitution wow, she is sickly. It is her Achilles heel, her frailty. Her mortal body is too flimsy to contain her fiery spirit! I enjoy a good disadvantage, it builds character heh heh.

If you agree French Wolf, I think Finwe is complete and will stay put as she is until we move forward if that is ok.

To recap my first year plans:
1-Work on Dex, Wis (thru meditation, watching others closely and acrobatic practice of surprise attack - the way of the owl, hawk, and lynx) Will sacrifice strength ability as needed.

2-Try to befriend Taya and family if possible, and help her with animal handling. (Help with overcoming trees if possible)

3-Continue childhood activity of exploring woods with Mothman if possible. Focus on animal friendship and stalking, tracking, hiding in shadows.

4-Haunt White Stag Inn in order to get job with caravan, traders, any position that gets me travelling, even if it is local, she has wander-lust.

Driving and gaming today. May have a chance at the character sheet later tonight.

Sorry for the delay FW. I took my PHB II to study at work yesterday and it said: The Swashbuckler is detailed in Complete Adventurer. Took Complete Adventurer today, and it's nowhere in it. I'm checking my other splats (Complete Warrior maybe?) because I know it's around some where.

On a side note, perhaps some woodscraft with an eye to Scout as an alternate class? I figure we're near a forest and if I am going towards a Robin Hood type it might come in handy.

First part:

The day Orick was born his mother cried in despair. Orick was a healthy child, born with lily white skin and perfectly formed hands and feet, but she cried none the less. She saw poor Orick as her doom.

Madelyn Maure had lived a happy existence in Tricaster, moving there with her late husband Dorn, and together they scratched out a comfortable life. Together they started a family, having one boy (Vickory) and two girls (Gretta and Quillith), but then, before the youngest was even out of dippers, disaster struck. Orc raiders attacked the town, Dorn was killed, and Madelyn . . . she did what she needed to survive.

In the weeks that followed Madelyn was forced to put a husband in the ground as well as worry about putting food on the table for 3 youngsters; the eldest only vaguely aware of what was going on. Then Magnus Octovious Maros road into town. Octovious had seemed like a knight in shining armor. As Magnus of the temple of Wee Jas in _________ he was rich, powerful, and he had connections. Best of all he was looking for a wife. Octovious was a widower, his wife died giving birth to his only son (Godwin), and to settle some ancient land dispute he needed to marry a local girl to claim his inheritance. Madelyn saw her opportunity and made her moves on the priest.

They were married three weeks later, and not long after he returned to the city to look after his goddesses’ affairs Madelyn discovered that she was pregnant. When Octovious returned he showered his new bride with gifts. The priest was happy to expand his family, his eldest son was sickly, and he was genuinely pleased with his new step children, but he was happy to have a child of his own blood . . . and not just because under the law a marriage could be annulled with the first two years if it wasn’t consummated . . . Octovious wanted to expand his family.

Then Bethsemane was born. Things changed overnight. Even though many of the locals must have known in the backs of their minds what had happened to Madelyn...

WOW, there's been so much to read through, I just now saw this.

Guy, I like how Orick and Bethsemane are half-siblings now. That gives them a closer connection.

But I have a little problem with Octovious being a cleric of Wee Jas. Since Bethsemane is going for wizard, I'd think she'd try to get as far away from step-fatherly influence as possible. If he's a cleric of the goddess of magic, I don't see Bethsemane being interested in magic at all.

So any other ideas for dad's religion? Would it be a problem to change it to something else?

I was looking forward to playing the Wee Jas / Norebo connection. I suppose that Lendor could do in a pinch, but that god doesn't really fit with the persona that I'd imagined for the father figure. Plus I don't think Lendor has a huge following (especially seeing as he's a god that doesn't seem to involve himself with worldly affairs). However it should be noted that most high priests of Wee Jas I've seen over the years have been female.

By the way Wee Jas is known as the Ruby Sorcerer and is revered mainly by natural casters and necromancers. Being a wizard would actually be closer to realm of Boccob.

How old is Daetha in relation to Taya and Nagy? I can't find your original rolls - computer playing silly games with me and eating stuff.

Sounds good to me. Daetha is 12 to begin with.

Female Half-orc Wizard 0 (Evoker)

Here's Bethsemane, character sheet in the profile. I've decided to go straight wizard rather than warmage. The warmage's spell list is just too limited, and I want to be more than just a blaster. She'll most likely specialize, in either evocation or transmutation, but haven't decided which yet.

Background still subject to change, of course.

And finally, apologies for the avatar. I could find NO female half-orcs in 22 pages of avatars, so just imagine the pic with greenish skin and maybe a tooth or two poking out. But I think Bethsemane would keep herself wrapped up like that to try and hide her features as much as possible.

male Human (suel) 0 level

I've managed a little work on Orick I'll start looking into a training or whatever tomorrow. Also what exactly is a demonspeaker? Is that a binder? A true namenamer? It's part of Orick's history so I'd like to piece it together to add to my character's background. I have some ideas but I want to be sure it's not some obscure class or something you've got written up somewhere.

Guy/Orick

Your father's take on it is that the phrase refers to someone who speaks the language of the Abyss.

Having a father who is a Cleric of Wee Jas from Greyhawk City is good for me. I also like Norebo over Lendor, as an adventurer.

I see Bethsemane (great name by the way - makes me think of the Beltane Fire) as just stubborn enough to want to out do his cold hearted father as a wizard. Some of the love of magic rubbed off, just not the personality.

Love it, much better than my mish-mash, thank you for the assistance. All the flavor of what I Was looking for without any of the wierness lol. Perhaps my first acts upon entering Tricaster would be A) to still lurk about the Halfling's mercantile building, and in my spare time, I wander over to the horsefields of the Risper's helping out as I may, while still maintaining a distance.

(My goals remain the same, to concentrate on Dex-Wis, Animal handling, tracking, hiding in shadows, and creeping around. I want to INFILTRATE scociety before I enter it full-time and risk another hurt.)

I want it to be clear that for many years it was the wildnerness and its creatures were her only comfort. The owlbear attack showed her the brutal jjustice of the wilds, and she wants to see the 'other life' in the cities. Tricaster seems as good a place as any to begin!

Sorry I have only just found this post on a re-read. There are one or two things I have considered about her that may help.

1) "Nightdancer" has to be an elven class thus you need to keep in mind that towards the start, middle or end of the training you will need to get close to the elves or at least an elf.

2) If you give me your 30 gold, you can have an elven shortbow.

3) You may need to think in terms of being a spy, perhaps with a cover. You act as a merchant in training or rogue in training but actually want to be a member of the ninjas. by going for generic skills and abilities no one will know how and why you can ghost step when it happens. I imagine that the nightdancers are highly secretive, a bit like the bladesingers never tell their training to non-elves.

Just a few thoughts for you to mull over.

Cheers

Finaly found the Swashbuckler class in the books (it was in CW). They do get Weapon Finesse as a free feat 1st level, so I will have to train for that. I did notice the flavor text they included points the swashbuckler to a mostly urban campaign. Do you think we can have Korgoth a mish mash, or should I go for another class that is more rural-oriented? Everything but the urbanity of the class seems to fit. Perhaps a major in Swashbuckler with a minor in scout/ranger.

The Exchange

Have a go at swopping the skills to make it more Robin Hood.

OK, I can see that. And as Guy pointed out, she'll obviously lean more to Boccob's faith, if any.

So, what sort of things do I need to train for a wizard? Seems everyone else posted their training, but I thought you were going to tell us. So which is it?

Well, here's what I have as an idea so far:

1) CON/Concentration
2) INT/spell
3) DEX/crossbow
4) Scribe Scroll (Int or Wis?) or Summon familiar (Cha?)

The Exchange

I am going to post your general objectives and you can then pick and choose how you achieve them bearing in mind the environment.

At first I did say not to post training plans but many have in their enthusiasm and I have to admit it is helping me flesh out Tricaster to suit them.

But I am days away from starting that phase.

So thanks for what you have done, I'll look at it along with the others in a bit.

F Wild Elf Fey Saboteur 0.0

I like the idea of being a spy, and I like the idea of 'infiltrating' society. I would be happy to give up my 30 g for a short bow.

SO I am thinking nightdancer is an elven ninja? (I cant find any info on them but I read in the fluff text of ninja's the rareness of the elven ninja.) OK, I am pumped about this idea. Finwe has a lot of energy to channel and ninja is the way to go with her aversion to society and her upbringing I think.

Perhaps this path could land in her lap tru fate or luck? Such as: her ex-aristocrat father needs an ally he can trust to help put him back into his proper place, a half-crazy ninja daughter would do the trick! That would supply the elf training required. Or a merchant caravan passing thru has ties to such an organization and sees my potential talent.

I also want to add: Finwe is not evil, not even close. True neutral tending towards good, it is just that her morals were learned in the unforgiving wilderness where one mis-step, one moment of unpreparedness will end in death. She is the instrument of harsh justice.

And relishes it.

I do wish she could have more ties that bind with the other characters, I might be making Finwe TOO much of a loner...

The Exchange

Nightdancer is just another word for the ninja class.

I shall think on what you have said and try to come up with something plausible for her. No worries on the alignment, so long as no one is stopping people having fun I am happy.

Cheers

Dinner at the Rispers is never that exciting in the culinary sense. More than compensated for the by vibrant personality clashes though. Like in flight entertainment.

Yet to finish Taya's mechanics. Fluff I can do on my head, actual nitty-gritty skills and such takes a long time. But getting there.

Well it's not impossible she would do that. She's heard of him presumably? She does want to get some kind of control and if he's the only person she knows of with any kind of wizardly/sorcerous powers she might well hunt him down. Politely and shyly. I have someone at the Orphanage who would make a fine sparring partner. The leader of a small gang of bully boys, Jeridd Kinslarn. he took your eye out.

Trainings Afoot!

By now, everyone should have an alias just like the template I provided (with kind assistance from Pat on the skills).

Most important is that the background is done, since that is the foundation for everything which follows. As the game progresses through the training and the dice cause all manner of mayhem then tweaking the background may become necessary but let’s cross that bridge when we come to it.

Character Generation - Part Three.
Although some of you have given me detailed information on what you would like to learn, train or work with during the first two years, I’m going to ask for those again. The reasons for this are threefold, but mainly I wanted to hand over some advice on how you go about this.
1) You have 9 stat dice rolls in total and it’s a good idea to rough out how many rolls you will have on each stat and what sorts of things you will go for each time. Only in rough mind you.
2) Take a look at all the possible people you could approach for training help as mentors. Some are better than others, while for other things like tracking and arcane power the village isn’t overloaded with choices. Depending on how the roleplaying and interaction goes, you may need to change tack or find a different NPC to help.
3) At the end of it all, it’s any critical failures (1’s) or successes (20’s) that should definitely alter the way you view the character. The rest is down to each of you.

Gaining Abilities
There are ways to improve your chances of passing as certain abilities, these are;
1) Find a good mentor and stick with them (anything from +1 to +4 bonus).
2) Use quality equipment (+2 for masterwork, for instance)
3) Get help. Aid another can be your ally in all manner of ways, be creative.
4) using the right spell component (+2 for casting)

Cheers

Training Objectives

Orick Faust - Guy Humual
1) Cleric class skill
2) Simple weapon
3) Zero level spell (Wis)
4) First level spell (Wis)

4) Detect Evil special ability (Wis or Cha)

Korgoth Darkhand
1) Swashbuckler (woodland variant) class skill
2) Simple weapon
3) Martial weapon
4) Weapon Finesse

Daetha Tain

2) Simple weapon
3) Martial weapon
4) Tracking feat

Finwe Yrinsil
1) Nightdancer class skill
2) Simple weapon
3) Nightdancer class weapon
4) Ki Power (Wis)

Pat especially will notice that there is no fifth requirement for anyone. That is deliberate to give you a bit more free rein on character development.

Pick three simple things that you reckon are a good start point (as many of you already have done) and let me know who or what you intend to approach (if anyone).

I will be spoilering some ideas and further suggestions to certain people so that they can make some individual choices.

Now off to create an events table for Year 1 and Year 2. Please do not all roll for the tax collectors again!

Cheers

Orick Faust

Spoiler:
Madelyn Maure is trained in the use of the crossbow. Dorn taught her and with his death, that is one of the few items that she keeps it although from an early age she has almost gifted it to Belsemane.
Your father has no real interest in training you in Wee Jas. He may be convinced otherwise. However he may be more willing to put in a word with Sir Kuiper and get you work in the militia hospital as a healer. He isn't going to help Belsemane and mostly acts as if he doesn't exist.

Belsemane

Spoiler:
Madelyn Maure (your mother) is trained in the use of the crossbow. Dorn taught her and with his death, that is one of the few items that she keeps. It has always been one of your toys and within the family it is yours. Your father has no great interest in his children, especially not you. But your mother will help anyway she can.

Vladimir

Spoiler:
Jeridd Kinslarn is a nasty piece of work. His gang has four big youths, with him as the largest. He enjoys the fighting and Vladimir will know that many boys suffer his attacks including Korgoth. The master and his wife have a cosy relationship with Jeridd, letting him get away with alot.
The Refuge lets boys go at odd intervals when they have outgrown the place and are ready to face the world. The master pays them off and sends them away on a wagon to Narwell and beyond. None of the lads ever want to return and they never do.
Typically your rest day is spent cleaning the Refuge along with other troublemakers. But Godsday is sacrosanct to the Master and no one works. He doesn't seem to mind what you do with it as long as you do not get into trouble.
The Risper's a happy hard-working family with the cloud of the tax collectors nosying around.

Taya Risper

Spoiler:
It's a happy hard-working family with the cloud of the tax collectors noseying around. Gelianne, your mother wants you married and she always seems to know when eligible bachelors are in the village. Rosylle is growing up just like her mother, quick-witted and sharp-tongued.
Thuliss is a bit more of a loner, preferring to spend time with the horses in the woods. He knows a fair bit about the woods in a five mile radius. He is good with a horse whip, and is closest to you in personality.

Nagy Risper

Spoiler:
It's a happy hard-working family with the cloud of the tax collectors noseying around. Gelianne, your mother wants Taya married and she always seems to know when eligible bachelors are in the village. Rosylle is growing up just like her mother, quick-witted and sharp-tongued.
Thuliss is a bit more of a loner, preferring to spend time with the horses in the woods. He knows a fair bit about the woods in a five mile radius. He is good with a horse whip, and is closest to Taya in personality.

Korgoth Darkhand

Spoiler:
Feisam tries to act like a bit of a father, teaching right from wrong and the like. He doesn't have much time for the militia officers but is good friends with one or two of the sergeants (since they trained together). You have seen him wield a dagger and club before in the Scabbard.
The bane of your life is a nasty orphan from the Refuge. Jeridd Kinslarn is a big bully and he has three only slightly smaller friends that mistreat the other kids. Sometimes it feels like they are looking out for you specially.

Daetha Tain

Spoiler:
The witch and the child of evil do not get bullied or picked on in the village. More like shunned. Your mother gets a certain amount of pleasure on Godsday going to the Ehlonnan shrine and meeting with the Rispers and their more sensible friends. The priest, Palfourd, there seems to be coming around more and more for meals recently.
He tells lots of tales about the woods and the Unicorn Goddess, but it is when he starts to talk about the Gnarley Rangers and their leaders, the Gnarley Knights that his stories come alive.

Finwe Yrinsil

Spoiler:
Someone leaves small parcels of food in the woods for you. They must be good, because you haven't caught them at it. Probably an elf. The Rispers seem a happy, hard working family and their shrine to Ehlonna, the Unicorn Goddess a very good thing indeed.
Every three or four weeks, the cashel seems to be used by passing elves. It is a regular meeting place and the you have noticed the elven smithy walking back from there more than once.

Young Orick Faust believes he has a calling is the priesthood. Who in town could train him (besides his father)? Is there any chance of running across that woodlands priest (that gave him his holy symbol) again?
