Character begin game play as orphans with 1 level in commoner and below actual starting age.

1 to 50 of 98 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

So I had an idea recently for what I think will be a really cool campaign.
I'm using the Golarion map so keep that in mind in terms of where you are from.
Just checking Interest right now but feel free to submit a character.
everyone will be starting as a commoner but tell me what class you are going for when you make you character.

Character creation:
level:1
point buy:20
class:commoner (I know it seems limiting but build with a specific class in mind)
race:core only

Sounds pretty vague - anything more you can tell us?

Yeah sorry. The idea here is that each of the PCs is starting without a real class (commoner). Soon after the campaign begins (if it does) classes will be obtained. As for storyline the characters are currently residing in an orphanage (keep this in mind when writing backstory). Another thing is that the PCs are not currently adults (age should be below the starting age of your race but not to low - mid/late teens)

Now this sounds interesting. I already had Seth here set up as an orphan. It won't take much tweaking to have him fit the bill proper. Count me as interested.

Cool, and as I said Seth can get back to that summoning nonsense soon.

Dark Archive

THoughts on where the campaign is taking place?

Are races like Elves unacceptable as they take 40 years to reach maturity?

Are Classes Core only, or everything?

Will you be allowing Archetypes? Traits?

What are your thoughts on 3pp? I'm assuming no, from the Race entry, but it's always worth asking early as someone will as eventually.

No 3pp, any base classes, archetypes are allowed, any core race is allowed. As I understand it and elf at the age of 40 is is like a human at the age of 15. Everyone is allowed 2 traits of different types though I may veto some that don't make sense with the starting age or story, E.G - you couldn't have the rich parents trait because you never knew your parents.

The orphanage is near the coast of Taldor that is where the game will start.

Hmmm. Thinking. :)

Okay, well I'm going to edit my Cleric I once used for Kingmaker. He supports others, but focuses more on his own abilities and has his own motives for his actions. :)

I'd really like his starting age to be 17, which is two years above that of the minimum adult human age, but if that's an issue, I'll just have him as 14/15, whichever you desire.

Are you disallowing the Leadership feat? That feat plays part in his character but is something I can edit out. It was merely so I could get him one loyal follower.

It's fine to be age 17 he is still young enough to be in an orphanage. Sorry I would like to disallow leadership as the extra characters will sorta mess with the campaign.

@Vironus - This is Elmer from Jehova's arena by the way nice to see you again.

Hey Elmer. I didn't mean to cause a stir about your six armed maniac in the Arena thread btw! :)

I'll give you a quick PM about something.

Will a class like an Alchemist or Wizard see some kind of break to justify their schooling?

Trying to work my way through a few concepts.

I'm assuming we start with no gp, as we're just common kids in an orphanage to start out.

For GM:
Lelouch is of Noble origin, whether he remembers or not, and as such is quite a well dressed person. Is that allowed, because I mean his parents may have orphaned him off, or would he have to dress like everyone else for now and not be allowed to be of noble origin? His domains are Charm and Nobility. :)

yeah any class will work.

Vironus Antilles wrote:

** spoiler omitted **

each person starts with up to 15 gp worth of items with some justification as to why you have them.

For Vironus:
As it says above you have 15 gp worth of items so if you buy nicer clothes with that then sure. As for being of noble birth, that is fine but he has no idea.

Okay, just waiting on the private message I sent to you. :)

The character's nearly done as an orphan. :p

Sovereign Court

Dotting for interest. I'm thinking I would play the serious kid type roll with aspirations of being a knight and go on adventures to save damsels in distress. He would go either paladin, cavalier or fighter. With fighter he would go the Hellknight direction. How do you feel about a Paladin or Aroden?

Just fired another PM back to you, but once it's answered, I'll send you one final PM with the character stats as an orphan. :p

A back story won't take two secs if none of us are aware of any previous lives before the orphanage. :)

Dotting as well.

Nice name, going to use you geass to take over the world?

Great character.

Well I know almost exactly what Vironous is going for.

Spoiler:
Guessing his follower had green hair. :p

I was thinking of doing a very angry kid barbarian type thing, or an elf whose parents were training him to be a fighter/wizard and thought he was a failure so kicked him out. XD

Thanks a lot!

I'm hoping a lot of combat will be in this, but with his skills, he should be of help in almost any situation. :)

@TMS:
Haha, well if he started aged 18, his cohort would be a dual wielder. His stats are insane for his abilities, but as you should know, he's not very fast and he lacks a great deal of physical strength.

Backstory:

Remus has always dreamed of being a knight. A man that everyone could look up to and admire. Being shy and reserved, he was picked on frequently as a child, never using his full strength to defend himself. But he always watched out for those around him, even going so far as letting the bully hit him and protecting their true target.

But Remus had one secret that none of the other kids knew. He had a sword! Remus has had the sword for as long as he can remember and isn't sure where it came from. Every night he would take it out of its hiding spot in the orphanage and look at it and dream of his parents and wonder what they were like. He would silently trace the upside down star on the hilt and pray to the heavens that he would one day be just like them. He would even sneak out on free days and practice with the sword, quickly learning that he could hold it in one hand, even with its bulk.

One day Remus would get his wish, he just wishes it was sooner rather then later.

Nice I like it.

Just one thing. Doesn't heirloom weapon give you proficiency?

Sovereign Court

Yes, martial proficiency with the chosen weapon, but not another of the same type. I also took EWP: Bastard as he's figured out how to hold it in one hand

Yea, you take one hand off. :p

Pretty sure heirloom weapon allows for you to have an exotic weapon. Could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure I've done it myself in the past. :)

Sovereign Court

I took both as bastard swords are tricky to be able to use them one handed

Ah ok, fair enough. :)

As soon as I get gear, I'm going straight into my medium load, haha.

It won't effect Lelouch in any way though. Sure his speed will be reduced to 20ft, but it doesn't matter because he doesn't need that speed.

If we're all in so far, I'll look forward to playing with you Tierce. :)

Edit: Just seen your post above, and yes, to make the world a better place. :p

Sovereign Court

Thank you, you as well

Leaning heavily towards wizard, but I could turn him into a magus, or finessed something or other.

Fluffy Wizard:

Judeau grew up in a house with a ex-General for a father and tyrannical mother. His father started training him for combat at a young age, working on speed and agility and reaction times. As Judeau got older training shifted towards the focus of sword fighting and tactics. Judeau easily understood the tactical parts of his training, but the swords and other weapons, he just never had the strength to do much damage with them, and he would constantly leave himself open as he attacked earning punishment from his father. One session left him with two nice scars on his face because his father was so angry with his shortcomings.

While Judeau's father was extremely focused on the physical aspect of his growth, his mother was the complete opposite, She was devoutly focused on magic. She was always having him study every moment she was able to. Teaching him all the ways magic could be used. This was slightly easier than combat training for Judeau since he was a smart boy but still he hated the lack of freedom his family imparted on him. His mother however thought he was incompetent because he had only mastered one spell and didn't appear anywhere close to mastering any other (even though that wasn't particularly true). She would always yell at him to do better and constantly pull "pranks" on him with her own magic to "teach" him lessons.

After one grueling night of his mother looming over him and correcting his writing technique Judeau had enough. He yelled at his mother and stormed off. Later that week both of his parents called him into the office, he knew it was bad when ever they both wanted to talk to him. They kicked him out of the house for being ungrateful of their training and that others would kill to be in his shoes right now. They allowed him to gather a few of his things before he left and off he went into the world.

The first city he went to mistook him for a young child and he was almost instantly swept to an orphanage by some good-hearted (though wrongly assumed) people in town. At first he was just going to stay a few nights to recover from his "long" (it wasn't that long) travels, but after realizing this was a great place to get free food and just relax he decided to stay until he was more mature and capable.

However, several years later he is still in the orphanage and it has left him very bitter and he is unsympathetic to any he meets believing his life to be much worse than any of theirs. He is very brazen when he talks and has very little tact as well, this usually leads people to start throwing punches but his training has made it relatively easy for him to get out of these situations. He is extremely agile due to his fathers training and no one (usually kids) have even come close to matching his father's speed. He believes himself to be always right, but is solidly proven wrong will begrudgingly admit that he is. Though he won't forget who proved him wrong and tends to go out of his way to prove them wrong.

He spends lots of time in his room studying his spellbook hoping to be able to figure it out someday. Many of the other kisd make fun of him for it saying it is a useless waste of time for him, but still he tries anyway.

Spellbook:
0-Level
Ghost Sound, Read Magic, Detect Magic, Mage Hand
1-Level
Ventriloquism

Sounds Good.

I think a friend of mine's possibly going to join us, but he said he'll be checking a little later if so.

I think he was planning Fighter. :)

I want to dot this for interest, while at the same time, issuing the fact that I would prefer to play an NE if at all possible.

He would work into being 2 fighter, then going cleric for the rest.

He would find Zura, the CE deity of blood, succubi, and vampires. He would worship her privately, of course, and be a substantial tank, as his habits require a great amount of fortitude.

Opinions?

Sovereign Court

I'm not the GM, but my opinion is that there is a time and place for evil characters. Way of the wicked comes to mind, or a mainly evil campaign. Playing an evil character in an otherwise good campaign can be very challenging, especially when another applicant is LG and plans to be a paladin

that's just my opinion

I would like to submit Othan, a young human male with and interest in magic and the ability to speak a language that no other person in the orphanage.

Will update his profile with more information soon.

That is an issue, and I agree with you on this Tierce, but I don't think the Paladin needs to go crazy on a Neutral Evil character, if that neutral evil character doesn't do anything evil in front of the Paladin, or if he's more neutral than evil, as in only just bordering on evil.

Typical stereotype NE would be a problem sure, and this might pose some of an issue, but it might also be fine.

Still, worshipping such an evil God isn't helping with the direction this could be headed. :p

I'm not worried either way because I have my defenses for if party members have disagreements with me. XD

I won't kill you. I'll just make you fear me. :p

Tierce wrote:

It's funny because that's what I'm doing right now in the midnight mirror module, and we're just the best of friends.

That being said, I have a wonderful backstory for this NE character. For the most part he would start out as neutral, a boy that gets picked on, essentially, and is betrayed by a friend. This gives him his traits, of course, Suspicious and Reactionary.

Slowly as he grows, he originally just gets stronger, but is visited by visions given by Zura, who takes a particular interest in him, driving him to sink into a new mindset. He'll be nice in public, and among the party and typically show as neutral, for the most part, but eventually grow a wicked side to those that harm or berate his friends.

Stats would be:
Strength: 14
Dexterity: 12
Constitution: 18
Wisdom: 8
Charisma: 14
Intelligence: 10

I believe, given the constraints, I could easily make a good character for this, even if he did become privately evil. He wouldn't be evil because of his relationships with other people, but rather, his relationship with himself.

Someone harming his allies would be tortured, for example, as they're one of his few friends. But knowing his allies would shun the idea, he would keep silent about it.

I have experience putting evil characters into strange accommodations.
It ultimately comes up to the interests of the GM, however.

I would prefer to keep a good/neutral party but if you feel strongly about being evil PM me.

I think I will submit a young Gnome who will eventually go to Cleric.

After her father died while being robbed along the roadside, her mother let herself waste/fade away as she offered up prayers to Naderi to join her beloved. Obviously this left Phaedra an orphan.

I will work on the sheet.

I haven't created a back story yet, so are we allowed to actually remember life and previous parents, because people don't seem to be doing that. :p

Also, if we're going to go through a time skip, how long might it be? 1 year? 10 years? Because I'd like to play with my class when my guy's the age I've started him as if possible.

If it spoils too much, I'll leave it. :)

How does this sound so far?

background:

History:
A young man orphaned by a cruel twist of fate. An accidental fire in the city of Riddleport claimed the lives of Ford and Marida Thanesmythe, leaving their only son orphaned.

As a youth Seth always showed a magical knack. His parents worked long hours to support the family which let him long stretches of time alone after his friends had gone home. During these times Seth discovered a companion appear whenever he felt lonely. He named his little friend Sing after noticing the creature made chirping like noises.
Young Seth was happy to spend time with the creature when his friends weren't around. Soon he figured out that he could actually call the creature to him. Not only Sing, but other creatures as well. It was this that proved a cruel gift. One night, Seth tried to summon a new creature but it proved to be beyond his control. The creature ran wild and knocked over a lamp that ignited a pile of clothing. This was the cause of the fire that claimed the lives of Seth's parents. Since that night Seth has not been able to bring himself to summon anything.

This is a fact that Seth has never told anyone. A guilt that he carries still behind the cheerful smile he puts on.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm likewise interested in the same question as Vironus on this.

Are we going to sub out the commoner level for our first class Level?
How long of a time skip?
Are we allowed to work in a story for the time skip's events?
Is it butter?
Can you believe it?

Also, I sent you that Pm.

But yes, inquiring minds want to know.

How young do we start off? 8, 14, etc, etc?

If it's a 7 year skip, I'll jump to being 10 currently....with those same stats haha! :p

I can't believe it's not butter. Truly English!

Starting age should be Between 12-16 in human years. Backgrounds can involve parents but don't have to you don't have amnesia. Be warned there will be a time skip of about 5 years. your commoner levels will indeed be swapped out for another class. In case your worried you wont have to be commoner for to long I just thought it would be fun to play out some of what would normally be your backstory.
@Vironus - If you would like to play Lelouch as 18 than just start at 13 instead of 17.

Sovereign Court

Remus will be 15 at the start
