In fact it is. The problem is that the tax attorney that originally blessed the agreement left the firm and we had to bring in a new guy from another office. He's also being a bit of a prima donna. Most of the time, the tax guys are content to sign off and go away, but he really wants to negotiate every possibility...

Getting accepted to Arizona State University, finishing your first semester, and then missing 3 full months of your second semester due to contracting mononucleosis. The missing classes cause you to get expelled, your mother and father refuse to continue paying for your education because you got expelled, and you enter the workforce at age 19 with nothing more than your high school diploma and no chance in hell of getting back to school anytime soon.

This is my life.

Damn dude. Sorry to hear.

Is she Italian? If there is one thing my mother taught me (by default), it's that no one can make you feel guilty without your permission. Give Gillyweed a hug, you'll feel better (assuming he doesn't give you fleas).

Hee hee, no. Just angry. I exploded on her through the internet, my little brother is playing diplomat, and I feel like a moron for reacting so harshly.

The pup, however, is amazing and a I love her to death. She doesn't feel well from the spaying this morning but is so so sweet.

Thanks, though.

Yeah, my job requirements are pretty lax (IMO):
  • No sales. At all. Ever. (Unless it was a product I really and truly loved, which I doubt will be the issue unless Phil at Paizo is looking for a sales monkey...)
  • $30K/yr.
  • Preferrably 45 hours/wk. or less (but willing to work up to 50 hours/wk if money is good).
  • Benefits would be nice, but aren't required.

I work for State Farm Insurance. We don't get insurance benefits. How stupid is that? In fact, I get no benefits whatsoever besides 11 days of paid vacation time per year (that's including sick leave). Any benefits at all would be an improvement, but I'm already used to living without them, so it wouldn't be a huge factor.

I know people scoff at the work, but have you ever considered waiting tables? I know crew at a fine dining place that pull 2 bills a night and breakfast waiters that make 35k+ working four days a week. Of course it all depends on the place.

The breakfast waiter in question works for the restaurant I managed and cooked in for ten years. One day a regular asked him, "When are you going to get a real job?" This regular was a teacher and was always in there b~!%$ing about this or that at school. Waitron2000 replied, "Remeber when I was gone all last month? I was vacationing in New Zealand." She never asked that again.

No real jobs where I live without driving 45 minutes to an hour, and then gas would take a chunk out of what I could save. I am not a graphic designer: therefore, I am unemployable in the field I have chosen, at least for the next three to five years. That's the downside of following your dreams.

Hey! Sounds like it's time to join the Army. They could care less what your degree is in so long as you have one. Brand new lieutenants make $2469.30 each month (pay raise every two years, plus periodic annual raises established by Congress, plus more pay as you get promoted), plus a basic allowance for housing based on where you're stationed (I get 1698.40 each month, tax free, just to pay for my house, plus a $900 per month cost of living allowance because I live in Alaska and a pineapple costs six dollars, plus $170 tax free called a basic allowance for subsistence, aka eating in the mess hall, which costs 1.65 for breakfast and 3.50 for lunch and dinner, and it's all you can eat, oh, and plus my basic pay). I'm telling you, living at home or learning to Soldier...wasn't a tough choice for me...

But then there's that whole "have to kill people when told to" thing and the "living with a buncha guys" thing which I don't really feel fits our dear Mr Keegan.

IEDs.

~Grives a rabid dog growl~ grrrrrrrrr...... Damn It!!!

Things that suck! When the system that alows me to access what work needs to be done goes down at 10 PM due to a multi-billion dollar company not getting their act straight! This has been going on since before I was hired here. You would think that things would be done better, but noooooooo......

The system goes down M-Th at around 12:30 AM and is down until around 4 AM. But at 10 PM?!? This is for maintenace, but that info should still be available. I ***KNOW*** that it can be done better! I used to work in the computer field for a few years. grrrrrrrrr.......

Thanks for the career advice, Andrew, but I'm pretty sure the Army isn't for me. I respect it and everything, but I've kind of figured out that a life of discipline and either dangerous combat experience or bureaucracy isn't what I'm cut out for. But that possibility definitely puts things into perspective.

Ooh, if you're opening the door to industry specific suckage, let me chime in with tax attorneys. WTF is their problem? Why do they have to jump in at the last minute trying to cram arcane and completely irrelevant tax provisions into a merger agreement that is nearly fully negotiated and ready to sign? Oh yeah, I'm sure the other side won't mind at all if we completely revise the indemnity reps at the last minute.

Ugh.

A-men to the tax attorney beef.

Also sucks:
Dealing with hours of contract RE-negotiating today after spending all weekend FINALIZING the contract. "Oh yeah, my client has decided that..." when we covered the whole #$@% exact issue three times over the past two weeks! Not to mention hours that the boss is more likely gonna say "Oooo. Sorry.... Waiting two weeks for your order to be processed and shipped to you (not Paizo's fault). *sigh* Waiting sucks.

Amazon.com sucks as far as pre-orders go. They over sell their stock and then leave you to wonder why that dang book you've been waiting for still isn't coming. So a book that came out in June won't be at my house until late this month, if at all. And rather than saying that it's sold out and that I should expect it later if I order from them, giving me a chance to go elsewhere, they don't say squat. Lame.

"Slow down out there" my arse.

I just think of it as a random tax, which is really all a speeding ticket typically is--safety rarely enters into the picture. Some days, your name comes up, is all.

Great idea! If you want to miss the 'action,' and yet be trained to make lots of money in the real world, tell your recruiter that you want to be an air traffic controller. I have friends doing that in the civilian world now(began in military) and they make $100,000 plus grand a year and they love it. Oh, and not all air traffic controllers work in towers. Check it out. Just make sure that you have it in writing before signing anything when going into the military.

Dont know much about the Army. My friends trained in the Navy and the Air Force, respectively.

Air traffic control? How is your math?

You dont need a working knowledge of advanced math. Talked to a buddy this am who is out in DC and he told me to definitely suggest it to anyone who is interested. Sure, he gets overtime, but the pay is great. There are other benefits too.

I only mentioned ATC because it is something that you could be trained for that could net you lots of bucks in the civilian world, not to mention, keep you out of the line of fire. Pun intended.

Things in life that suck?

Hmmm...

Working for folks that are clickish petty slackers

The fact that bad things always seem to happen in 3's

Having to threaten legal action for a doctor to do his job (example: i find it amazing that doctors will treat w/o diagnosing the problem-can we say malpractice-because they dont want to authorize an MRI-buddy dealing with this currently)

Finding a consistent group of gamers

Finding that no matter how much i make, it just doesnt seem to be enough

Finding that cars break down or blow a tire at the worst possible location

Too many crappy movies released

The fact that they screwed up both Dungeons and Dragons movies

Why dont all dentist offices go to laser dentistry so as to eliminate much of the drilling agony

Why almost all juices are 25% or less real juice (yes, i realize its profits)

Boxed cereal is just way to expensive

James Keegan is right, I'm going the Amazon preorder quagmire as we speak

And worst of all...drum beat please...knowing that i may not have much more time with my 14 year old akita. It will SUCK when that day comes. Loosing pets has and will alway be near the top of the SUCK LIST.

I can go on forever...

The State of Hawaii, owes me for 10 WEEKS of back wages. Thats right I have not been paid for over 10 WEEKS. In Hawaii, you can not make a claim for unpaid wages against a State agency. The Personel office has messed up my pay three times already. But again they promise to pay me, this time on Aug. 20, Three Months after I started and nearly three weeks after I finished the job. Any way, I should be on vacation, but I am working day to day, waving flags on the side of the road, 8 hours a day, for cash, cause I am broke. I had to take out a loan to pay rent. Oh and when the state does get arround to paying me they mill pay me the entire sum at one time, which means I get taxed big time as well. So I lose my vacation, I will have to pay interest on a loan I did not want, and the governement taxes me heavily on my wages, because of incompetence in a personel office of a state agency, which faces no consequences for not paying me for over three months.

Anyway the state of Hawaii sucks.
Don't get a job for them unless you have at least enough savings to survive for three months with out pay.

Wildwood, N.J. sucks. If you step on the boardwalk the money siphon engages. If you go to the beach you discover that this sand isn't that wonderful sand that places like Asseteague Beach, Maryland beaches and most others down the east coast, have. It has been altered on the cellular level to be the stickiest, dirtiest, hardest to remove crap sand you have ever run across!
I went to Asseteague Island beach a few weeks back and in 5 minutes of leaving the beach, I could lightly brush all sand off of me. This crap in Wildwood wouldn't come of with a friggin hose! I literally had to scrub this friggin' sand off of me with bodywash and a scrubbie.
Sucky-@ss sand. Sucky-@ss beach.

Hey that's nice. The math tests for air traffic control in Canada are pretty strict. Not advanced math, but you do need perfect marks, and you can be pretty sure that not everyone makes it.

ROFL! For a decade I've had that stigma. My wife has a bad eye (she sees shapes and colors in it, that's about all, so her depth perception is way off. Consequently, she tends to run into a lot of things. I can't tell you the number of times in the hospital they send me on some stupid errand (let's send the husband for jello) so they can get her alone to ask if I beat her. Oiy. On top of that, we have really steep stairs that she has fallen down at least four times, she tripped over a lamp cord halfway through the pregnancy, ran into a doorknob while we were dating, and yesterday she was hit by a car while crossing the street to get to JoAnne's Fabrics (not her fault, that time, thank anything she was only winged). I think the two best stories are the injuries that will be blocked by the board filters though: she was hit in the head by a box of glass dildos falling off of a shelf in the warehouse, and a crate of strawberry anal lube exploded next to her (they expand during shipping, temperature changes). So yeah, I'm right there with you on the spousal abuse thing.

Today I locked my keys in my truck, and the fire dept. which I happened to be right next to could not get the door open, so I had to call a locksmith who took 2 hours to get there and charged me 60 dollars to open my door.

The fire dept. thanks for trying to help, but they said they have never been able to unlock cars because they were never trained to use the tools and picks that they were given. So they just have to wing it. They said if a baby is locked in the car they either just break the window or call a locksmith. Come on lets get them trained.
