The Worst in Others

As the War for the Crown escalates, General Pythareus—Princess Eutropia's rival for the throne—plots to plunge the nation into war, threatening to kill thousands of people to rally others to him. From the fortress—city of Zimar, he commands the overwhelming army of Taldor, as well as one of the most ruthless spymasters the world has ever known. Even with the resources of the legendary Lion Blades to aid them, can the PCs hope to outmaneuver conspiracy and prevent the War for the Crown from becoming a war between nations, or will Taldor again descend into a thousand years of violence?

This volume of Pathfinder Adventure Path continues the War for the Crown Adventure Path and includes:

  • "City in the Lion's Eye," a Pathfinder RPG adventure for 10th—level characters, by Mikko Kallio.
  • A gazetteer of the city of Zimar, the fortified heart of Taldor's military, by Mikko Kallio.
  • A profile of the Lion Blades, masters of disguise and the most feared spies of the Inner Sea, by Liz Smith.
  • Eight of the deadliest rakshasas found within the Inner Sea region for use as an adventure supplement or in any campaign, by Eleanor Ferron.
  • A collection of strange beasts that prowl southern Taldor, from the invulnerable chitikin to the immolating pyrogeist, by Mike Headley, Mikko Kallio, Joe Kondrak, and Kalervo Oikarinen.

Is there some sort of hiccup with the ordering process? You guys evidently received the PDF copy yesterday, but my copy is still listed as pending. Is there some sort of time zone impact on payment confirmation?

The shipping process takes a week or more. You only get your free pdf as a subscriber when they process your physical order. The only sort of guarantee is that you'll get it before the street date, but most get it well before, if not right away.

It’s not even guaranteed that you’ll get it before streetdate (albeit that’s usually true). I’ve had a handful of subscription shipments over the years which shipped after the book was available in FLGSes.

My anecdotal impression is that May through September are the most troublesome months, given convention season and all the logistics that entails. It is frustrating though. :(

In my experience, if there's a problem with your order, you get an email.

I usually get at least my PDF before the product's street date. April was a rare exception. When I got home from work on Monday, I saw both my April and my May subscription shipments waiting for me at my front door.

I haven't read it completely, it seems it has focus on infiltration and other secretive methods, but it does provide another opportunity to Verbal Duel main antagonist to stand down so that is great :D Bit confused how campaign continues if that happens, but I'm asking about that in the sticky thread

P. 61, I LEGIT thought dood was rocking a gunblade :3

Okay now that I have had chance of reading this...

This book allows players to do one hilarious awesome thing :D

Just in case you don't want to be spöiled:
If PCs kill the spymaster mentioned in summary in first encounter were they are being underestimated, they have chance of impersonating him and taking control of all his resources to work against Pythareus. Considering that encounter with spymaster is one of the first encounters in the book... Well you can see how hilarity ensues

I really liked this adventure, but I have one issue. It's really more of a meta-issue, but still:

Spoiler:

How in the world did Milon Jeroth manage to join the Immaculate Circle's ruling council? Dude's a rakshasa, and the Circle is certainly aware of these fiends (among other shapechangers). One would imagine that, before allowing someone membership into their inner circle, there would at least be a true seeing protocol. This is, after all, a secret society led by at least one very powerful spellcaster and I'm guessing they're a paranoid lot. Realistically, Panivar Lotheed would have outed Milon as a rakshasa within about 5 minutes.

Milon: "I am totally an immortal and by no means an impostor! I, uh, mastered my internal alchemy." Rolls super high on his Bluff/Diplomacy checks, enough to beat everyone's Sense Motive checks.

Panivar: Well I'm convinced, bro is legit. Welcome to the masters of the Immaculate Circle! Just one thing first. We do this for everyone, it's nothing personal." Casts a few divination spells, including true seeing. "Sigh. Another rakshasa. You know too much time to die blah blah."

Oh well. Still a cool villain.
