And i thought i didn't need this one!

5/5

I had thought when Bestiary 6 came out I wouldn't need it.

How wrong was I!

This book will definitely take it's place as one of the essential Pathfinder books in my collection, if you're waiting to get this, don't! Get it now!

Well done Paizo!

My one complaint is mine had the same shitty yellow binding glue as the first printing of the Starfinder CRB, but I'm not dropping the rating because it is that good (also I still have binding glue leftover from my Starfinder CRB).

A solid addition

4/5

So Bestiary 5 was a bit disappointing to me, but this one is something that did something with Pathfinder I haven't seen in a while: gave me ideas that I wanted to use. A lot of the monsters presented are honestly interesting. As usual, there are some reprints from other products, but I always favor having consolidated lists of things. I won't use everything, but there is enough here that I'll be using a good chunk.

Also, the weremantis reminded me how much I love Portal, so I have to give it to them there.

Upward Trend

5/5

A wide variety of creatures with overall high quality artwork. I like the inclusion of the numerous high CR creatures.

Bestiary 5 and 6 have been my favorite Bestiary books by far.

Unusable

1/5

So me and two other guys from my gaming group ordered this book from amazon. WOW, all of us have missing and or scrambled pages.

I have over 17 missing pages (most of the archdevils content)and more or less 20 pages out of order. I don't know if they are sending all the "special" books down here, but I can assure you I will never buy a physical book from Paizo anymore.

Well regardless I need to not get my hopes up to much, I have been disappointed before, and If I keep getting myself hyped then I will never be satisfied with whatever the final product will actually be.

Tawil at'Umr!!!!
I am very pleasantly surprised.
It makes sense, as James has been telling us to read Through the Gates of the Silver Key. as of now, the only other things I can think of that one would need to run that story as an adventure would be "Vaporous Brains from the Spiral Nebula" and the "bearded and finny Gnorri". won't keep hopes up about the Gnorri, though, as they'll be in a 3rd-party book (Sandy Petersen?)

Anyone know if there will be any new Titans. I just finished organising my setting's cosmology and there ended up being three titanomachy's.... even more titans would be hard to fit in.

No new titans:(

New Oozes types, Blights, look cool. and yet another reason why the serpentfolk civilisation is a shell of it's former self. Snakefolk druids messing with the mojo of the land and making an intelligent, Hateful, nature-fuelled, protoplasmic menace.

Now all we need is to have someone apply the right templates/varients and give it the voice of Tim Curry, and pseudo-HEXUS can be the villain in a Ferngully styled campaign.

Legendary foes. A large amount of high CR creatures.

I miss the "Satanic Panic!" tagline. Maybe it got moved to the Book of the Damned...

We generally don't re-use taglines for ads. They're a fire-and-forget sort of thing.

B3's theme was "monsters of the world". Lots of folkloric stuff.

Will there be any new Familiar candidates in the book?

A very few, but yes. They won't be listed under the heading of "familiar" but will be monsters that can be selected as familiars. We've already revealed that the mockingfey from Inner Sea Bestiary is being reprinted in the book, for example. There's at LEAST one more, but since being a familiar is not the primary purpose for them it's hard to recall off the top of my head if there's more than two.

The blight oozes are somewhat interesting but I am more interested in the other 7, especially the grand-mama of them all.

Good, I don't need a lot but it's always nice to have new options :) Even if it's 2 or 3, I'll be happy.

And I do have a preference for "creature who also happens to sometimes serve as a familiar." The purpose-built familiars (like the Ioun one) may make sense, but I have more fun with the more organic ones.

Would of liked a few familiar choices but the book does have a lot of two page monsters so no surprise there.

My only hope for this is that the Empyreal Lords won't be wimps this time around. After the disappointments of Cernunnos/Korada/Vildeis and then Andoletta in Chronicles of the Righteous this is the last chance I give Paizo to stat paragons of righteousness.

At least Ragathiel needs to be challenging. He killed the previous Lord of the First, Typhon.

I wonder what Pathfinder's version of Typhon looked like.

I have no problems with Good being wimpy. After all, they always lose.

Isn't that from Kobold Quaterly?

...Wait is magazine articles canon? Because if they are, thats confusing to me

Was it? I don't really know. Paizo mentioned Typhon in Hell Unleashed for the first time, confirming his status as the deceased previous Lord of the First, and I remember reading on pathfinderwiki that Ragathiel did kill Typhon (the General of Vengeance also maimed Deumus, and infernal duke ;D ).

EDIT: According to the wiki, this information is indeed from Kobold Quarterly 22. However, I don't know if it is cannon, or if it was made cannon.

I hope at least one of the previews talks about something we didn't know was in the book.

IIRC, those Kobold Quarterly articles were written by Wes Schneider, who is also the overlord of Hell for Paizo. I think they count as canon, and I think the article even lists that info as Paizo product identity

Are there very many new dinos? I loved that therizinosaurus got some love last bestiary, and I love how formidable they are. Makes me feel like whoever statted them plays Ark Survival Evolved. :)

They aren't official canon, since they're not in a Paizo product, but they're close enough that if you use them as canon in your game you should be fine.

Four dinosaurs, as in the case of all the other Bestiaries. I've been the one to stat up all the dinosaurs so far, but I've not played Ark. It's not really my style of game... not a huge fan of MMOs.

So I think I can assume from the way it's worded that the Devil Monkey is an animal-type and companion compatible.

It could be an animal companion...or maybe that is what it wants you to think;)

With the complete understanding that the creative director has spoken, I am still going to provide a counter point. The Golarion articles that appear in Kobold Quarterly issues and on the Kobold Press website are technically canon. The articles were approved by Paizo, they have permission to contain Pathfinder Campaign Setting IP, they were written by Paizo staff or freelancers who work closely with Paizo, and were written specifically to discuss events, characters, or issues that occur in the Golarion Universe.

That being said, it is not unheard of for Paizo to revisit earlier topics and provided slight changes or edits, and in extreme cases change canon to more closely align with their vision for Golarion (see creative director above). So I personally consider them canon with the realization and acceptance that should those topics be revisited (and I hope they will be) there might be changes. :-)

Eh the way I play it I can hardly call it an MMO I play on my own map with just me and the dino's I'm probably playing it wrong but there ya go.

Four new dinosaurs and I believe there should also be some new megafauna as well.

Sovereign Court

Always nice to see prehistoric animals in a bestiary! :-)

New player-friendly races, like the... wolflike rougarou,

Thank gosh, I was dreading that they'd look like French poodles or something. Thank you Paizo!

There is nothing wrong with French poodles except how humans style their fur.

"Some creatures, such as the capricious taniwha, the mysterious green man, or the powerful empyreal lords, might even be willing to provide your heroes aid—if they deserve it!"

Am I the only one that though the taniwha could be a quasi-deity creature? I mean, the other creatures mentioned along it (green man and empyreal lords) are a quasi-deity and even demigods.

After reading about than, you will learn that they were respected as guardians - like the green man - and that there were many distinct members of their kind.

I'm now really interested to know more about the taniwha and what type of creatures they are.

Really, what is their creature type? XD

Taniwha, I would suspect of being magical beasts, given they usually appear as sharks or lizards, but I could also imagine them as native outsiders, dragons, or possibly fey or aberrations...but we shall have to see.

If I had to guess I would also choose something between magical beast, outsiders and dragons.

The taniwha is a water monster from Maori legend, so at least we know what plane and environment it's probably associated with. If it wasn't associated with water, I'm sure someone would have a fit.

They probably fit the idea of quasi-deity/ demigod given their immense power over nature, able to shape room for harbours or cause natural disasters like landslides. The capricious part is probably in relation to it acting as a guardian to those that earn its respect, or as monsterous and terrible foe to those that would threaten either its life or the lives/livelihoods of their chosen people, with some taniwha being true monsters, attacking and devouring all that cross within its path, or kidnapping women and men for its own purposes. Either way, this thing is at least a large or huge, because WHALE sized giant lizard/dragon/serpent creature that can devour men, beasts, canoes, etc.

They can be reasoned with, and with sometimes offer a boon or spell in exchange for a gift.

We will just have to wait and see what the Taniwha will be like, it could be just about anything really.

I confess that even knowing it likely won't ship yet for some time, I still can't stop myself from being a little excited everytime I come to the website.

Am I the only one who's surprised that Pathfinder is still going on as of today? They're already at the SIXTH Bestiary and STILL have lots of rulebooks to publish... and that's 10 years AFTER the end of D&D 3.5 ^_^

Speaking of D&D 3.5, WotC released 6 Monster Manuals, if we include Fiend Folio ;)

It definitely will be. There are people still playing 1e and 2e.

Yeah people are still playing 1e and 1e, that doesn't mean they are still making products for those editions.

So, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book, so that I can spend a week or two reading every single page, and promptly forget some of the creatures, even though I want to remember all of them.
