I found this box on sale and thought I would get it simply for the price, but was incredibly pleased by the quality when it arrived! They are possibly the largest of the Huge figures in my collection and much more detailed than I had seen in pictures. The frost worm looked silly to me in pictures, but it's actually quite beautiful in person. The figures are very well presented in their box and don't have to be removed if you're just a collector. I do agree with one of the other posters about the twisty ties though. Redicously tied up in inconceivable ways. >:(
Criticisms of the packaging and the spear both have their basis: the packaging takes care and effort to remove, and is not suitable for keeping or displaying. And it is annoying that the spear's plastic is so bendable that it won't stay straight. I will admit I don't really care about the first issue.
However, the spear is not the deciding issue for me. There are larger considerations: the sculpt, painting, and conception of these two monsters is so strong that they are worthy to stand among the best miniatures of this size in the line. Not to mention, frankly, that we really needed a giant worm.
The two miniatures you get here are fantastic. Lots of detail, bright colors, and sure to elicit gasps of awe at the gaming table.
The main irritant with this product is its packaging. It's got secret twisty ties everywhere, and you literally have to rip the box open to get at them. Even then, some of the ties are tucked away into crevices that you're basically better off with wire cutters. Have you ever been so frustrated trying to open a package that you literally rip it to shreds? That's what you're in for with this box. Good luck. Oh, and forget about preserving the box as a display case after you take the miniatures out. Ha.
Saw this in my brick and mortar store and had to buy it. This means once my order ships here I'll have two of each so does that matter? No way, I may even push for a third if my pre painted plastic allowance can afford it. These are fantastic minis and if this is the start of a line of huge figures I have real hopes it will continue. Lets look at each.
Frost worm: The detail on this is beautiful, right up top the ice clinging to its body as it bursts from the ground. Mine is extremely well painted with good clean edges and detailing - perfect no, there are spots were the paint is applied a little haphazardly, the mouth is perhaps the weakest point, the teeth could be more clearly defined and the mouth is an odd red pit. Overall this is a great miniature with beautiful detail and a good paint job.
Svatharim: Another triumph. This guy is really well detailed. The paint is applied really well on mine, and while the armour could have been lighter to separate it from he horses body more, the overall effect is still very good. The gold and silver need some shading. The biggest mistake I can see is the slight, and I mean slight, overpaint between face and beard (some blue on the beard). The face however is so expressive and detailed I can easily overlook this - that said I think the eyes could have been painted, they are large and clear enough. As it stands they are just the same blue as the face. I'm being very picky and the mini really has only one problem - the spear. Why do they insist on thin hafted polearms. The spear is so easily bent out of shape, and gravity quickly pulls it into a bowed shape. It upsetting to see a great mini holding a floppy spear! The Storm giant release with runelords has the same issue.
These are some truly nice minis and it will look very, very impressive the first time you put them down in front of your despondent players. As a start to what I hope is a long lived line I can happily give them 4.5 out of 5, but will round to 4 for the very minor issues and the thin spear. Buy it you won't be disappointed.
I am very happy with how often miniatures are coming out and I think the encounter packs are a great way to keep them coming without full sets too often.

Wow, nice to see the huge minis make it out, this is a really great addition to the encounter pack line and gives me great hope for the future of Huge minis. That said the two released are certainly not what I expected - the frost worm sounds cool but isn't the Svathurim the six legged frost giant like centaur? Seems an odd choice for a huge debut set, woudn't it have a fairly limited audience? What prompted inclusion of this over other huge minis?
Ar the two huge minis the only thing included in this pack? Because although we already finished the AP, I would hve liked to have some NPC minis as keepsakes.

Well, considering that the RotRL huge boosters went for $24.99 each for one huge, I am guessing since it's a $40.00 pricepoint for the encounter pack, there are probably only the two huges.
And maybe this is a great way to get us more huge miniatures even if they eventually put out a set for the AP. I would be happy to see more of these kind of encounter packs.
From what Erik Mona has said, the encounter packs (or similar type releases) will be the only way we will see huge minis. So I don’t think we will see huges released with a set anymore.
And that fine with me, just as long as we do see the huge miniatures as well.

Two questions which you may now be able to answer yet. Are the minis based on those two pieces of artwork? IF so bring on the Svathurim, if it resemble sthat particular version it shoudl be a truly awesome mini. Conersely I hope the worm isn't going to be sculpted bursting from the gound like that, I'd rather see a coiled beats than a half-worm with sculpted ground burst.

Just preordered, with subscriber discount and battles discount it came out to ~$29, not too bad for two huge minis. Keep em coming I say.
Is this like the dragon set: same minis in each box? If so, when are we going to get a list of the minis included? At the very least let us know how many come in the set...

You get 2 huge...nothing else.
For price comparison, take a look at the price on huge boosters for their Rise of the Runelords set. Individual huge minis were $24.99...so $40 for 2 is a better deal already.
I wish there was a chicken legged hut in there somewhere, but by Feb I should be able to afford this... and they should be JUST getting to Whitethrone by then!

Well I for one am very happy about this encounter pack for Reign or Winter (and also the forthcoming Reign of Winter PF Battles case in April) - is there ANY chance that we could see a second encounter pack for Reign of Winter with say Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut and one of those animated Russian Tanks? That would be fairly awesome (and it sounds like folks really want to see the Dancing Hut at least).
We explored the Hut extensively and couldn't come up with a way to produce it affordably. There are lots of models and toy options for tanks, so we'd prefer to focus on stuff that's a little more difficult to proxy.

For subscribers, we do not expect to have this in by the time we start doing the order creation for February subscriptions. If it stays in your sidecart, it will ship with March's subscription. If its in a regular order it will ship towards the end of February.
With the huge sized encounter packs it is cool to see 1 very useful mini and one more situational that may not have been made otherwise. I don't know if it makes sense for future sets but I think it worked here. Both minis are very solid with good detail and pretty much exactly what I'd want in a miniature of those monsters. I'd be interested in future huge sized encounter packs.
Not seen these in the UK yet. Local games stores don't have them on their distributors lists. Usual UK online suppliers don't list them and cant even find them on Amazon.
Hope these don't go the same way as the Skull & Shackles set which I was never able to order in the UK.
