Great value, great work

5/5

Great minis for a great price. I love the whimsical and detailed artwork. I printed these on some heavywieght matte photopaper and they came out great.

This is an amazing deal

5/5

This set was recently updated. It felt a little sparse before. I still enjoyed the product.

Now it has everything you need to run this book. It features an amazing 3D dust digger. The quality of Ashton's work just keeps getting better. A must for any Arabian themed adventure.

Perfect!

5/5

If you are running the Legacy of Fire, buy this and print them off - they will save you a fortune, look great on the table, and are easy to construct! A great buy!

Good but a pain to print

I like the idea of these minis, but when I went to Kinko's to print it, they at first refused because of the copyright stuff on the bottom. I then dug out the question in the faq that says you are allowed to print ONE copy of a Paizo pdf. So at this point, I have to either buy a printer or go to a variety of Kinko's to get multiple copies made. Or maybe Paizo really does only want me to print one sheet of the minis. It seems like it would be easy to put "permission granted to copy for personal use" on the bottom of the sheets along with the copyright information. Either way, I like the idea, but won't be buying any more because of that issue.

More like 4 1/2 Stars out of 5

5/5

Another nice set from Ashton.

The Minotaur guy and Bug Demon (I forget what they are from the Module) as well as the Harpy and Ogre are great. The right size, with terrific Menace.

However, what the other review has to say also has some merit.

1) The swordswoman could have used just a bit more detail. And, for my tastes, shes just a little too big compared with the other PF Papermini sets. (But only slightly). That being said, she'll make a good Paladin of Sarenrae in my ROTR campaign.

2) The Pugwampi King is just a bit too small. I picture him a bit rounder and taller.

3) The Axe-guy. (I forget his name). As the setpiece main villan, he could have used a bit more menace (look at the Minotaur and Ogre!) But he is suitably big and the axe looks cool.

And there are only 7 minis. Maybe this should have been a $2.99 set.

All that being said, however, this is stll a great deal. For less than $4, you get some new monsters that you can print over and over again (Guess what's going to show up during the Hook Mountain Massacre) and soem things that haven;t been done well as paper/ cardboard minis before.

and with this set and the other PF Paper minis, you get almost everything you need to run the first 2 books of the LOF AP!

Keep it up Ashton.

One more thing.
When I personalize my pdfs, there will be a line added to the pages.
This time, this line is printed partly over the bases of the minis.
Not sure if this is a DINA4 (european paper format) problem.
Does anyone else experienced this?

The personalisation is on the pdf, has nothing to do with european paper formats.

Same problem here.
It's only the base though, so a bit of correction fluid might do the trick easily.

Liberty's Edge

It's no problem for me, presently. I was just telling it, so that we don't have those lines on the minis itself one day!
I am glad it has nothing to do with paper format. Thanx for telling!

Can somebody post exactly which npc/monster minis you get with this set. This might be something nice to have in the description of this and future products.

Thank you, guys! I was worried that without the Paizo e-mail announcement and Store Blog, these bad boys would wallow in ignomity. Now, obviously, they didn't get that initial sales boost, but they're chugging along at a good clip, so I guess the word got out just fine.

But don't hesitate to tell your friends. ;P

And feel free to throw whatever feedback you want at me. Love 'em or hate 'em, it's hearing from you guys that helps me make them better.

Yup. I'll be keeping some extra space on the top and bottom from now on. I totally goofed on that. The next sets will not have this problem.

But thankfully on this set it's only on the bases, so it's pretty easy to cover up/ignore.

My concern exactly, Montalve. I'd really like to let folks know what minis are in there, though. This pack contains:

Spoiler:
* King Mokknock
* Kezurkian the schir demon
* Undrella the harpy
* Hurvank the Strangler
* Kardswann
* Haleen
* Xulthos

In the future, though, maybe I could make some kind of vague reference that GMs might get but would leave players in the dark. What do you guys think? Give a full list? Allude to who's in the pack without naming names? Hop on shortly after the set is released and put the minis in a spoiler tag? Or just make a vague comment about a couple of them like in this set's description?

As an aside, future monster or race sets will have a listing of what's in the packs, since they're not strictly AP-specific and thus contain no spoilers. For instance, the gnoll set contains 3 standard gnolls, two gnoll archers, a gnoll priestess of Lamashtu, a flind, and a hyena. I won't list specific classes, since they're for you to use in whatever way you want in your game, and I intend that packs with playable races be vague enough that they can double as PC minis if people so desire (no mini labeled "Shoanti Barbarian", for example).

Two things:

1: The personalization problem. Is it possible to get this PDF revised so that that space is left blank? It's kind of annoying to have that text on the mini's base. Also, this may just be me and my printer, but I could print the first two sets just fine with scaling set to none but this set has part of the last few figures' bases cut off if I do that. The margins seem just a little too tight on this set, probably due to their being more put on a single page than in the previous ones.

2: Would it be possible to go back to the black bases or to maybe have the PDF include both versions on seperate pages? I prefer them over the white ones, personally.

I'll see what I can do; honestly, both of those things have been scratching away at the back of my brain, and I really just want to get them fixed. I'll try to have them done for tomorrow sometime. Just to warn you: the minis might end up on two pages, if that's not too much of a hassle. They're really cramped on that one page, thanks to the two Large figures.

Waspinator wrote:

I'm working on something to that effect; I can't guarantee when, but at some point in time, I hope to make the minis with layers that can be toggled on and off so people can have black and white or color minis with either black or white bases as suits their needs. Nothing on the immediate horizon yet. But some time.

Thanks for the input!

I'd rather have two pages and have everything come out nicer than one and have them be squished like mad.

On the subject of toggling between different settings: why not just include each version in the file we download? I may not be a computer expert, but I really doubt a single PDF file containing the data for all of those options would wind up having much of a smaller file size than several separate PDFs, each with one of the combinations.

Love the pugwampi :) Can't wait to see the Bestiary selection!

Liberty's Edge

N'wah, sorry for buzzering you again, but is it a hell of a work to get uncolored version within the pdf as well, so we can color them on our own?!

I don't know if it is just Preview (MacOSX) but the pugwampi comes out really blurry. Has anyone printed him up yet? Is the lack of detail an issue at his size?

Dark Archive

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

The Tiny sized minis will initially look really blurry, since they were drawn much bigger than the final version. Also, the current PDF program I'm using (hopefully soon to be replaced with Adobe Acrobat) makes things come out a little fuzzy. However, the printed out versions should come out quite nice, even Kink Mokknock, who is about as big as my pinkie nail when he's done. I'm working on a few different methods of doing Tiny minis so that they're appropriately sized and still look good on the PDF, but alas, at that size, detail is bound to be lost. As the AP progresses, though, things only get bigger, so Tiny minis will probably only be an issue again when Council of Thieves starts up (since you can't go to Cheliax without running into an imp, I'd bet).

Also, still planning on a redone version of this PDF where the watermark doesn't run through the Large bases; scheduling to get that uploaded on Monday. Either Vic or I will let you know when it's up. Sorry for the trouble. This is all pretty new to everyone involved.

On the color issue, the hope is that with Acrobat, I'll be able to set colors and black bases as a layer you can toggle on and off. If that for some reason fails, I'll start adding a sheet of black and white minis to the final product, but hopefully this will be an easy and elegant solution to the b&w vs. color issue.

I'll have to wait until I've got the available money to pick up Acrobat, though- hopefully by June this technology will be available to me. :P

I just printed out and put together this set - love 'em! Very cool stuff. I think the harpy is my favourite so far.

I'm running this AP as a pbp game, so I don't strictly need the minis ... at this stage I'm giving them as toys to my 3 year old son!

By the way, I printed them on normal office paper rather than cardstock, and they work alright. They won't stand up to much wear and tear, but they do stand. I think if you were using these just for a single game session they'd be fine on normal paper.

Glad to hear you love 'em, Mothman, and I hope the wee one loves 'em too! Yeah, they hold up fine for a game or two with just regular paper, and are a bit easier to cut out. A lot of glues might be a problem, but I could see double-sided tape serving quite well in this regard.

Glad to hear about a field test with regular printer paper, sir. We here at Paizo Paper Minis appreciate quick and cheap solutions for the home gamer. :D

Something I'm doing with these and have done in the past with other paper minis: hot glue guns. You can use normal printer paper plus a hot glue gun to build the miniatures and they turn out pretty sturdy. The glue, when it cools, makes a solid enough plastic that they work well.

The updated file is UP! No more watermark troubles. There should be an e-mail sitting in your inbox with the updated link. Enjoy!

Oh, and good call on the hot glue gun. I hadn't thought of that, but that's probably because I haven't used a hot glue gun in a while. I might have to pick one up and try that out. Thanks for the tip!

In future releases, could you make sure that the minis have a clear facing?

The gnolls should be okay, since they are drawn in profile... but for many of the minis that are not, could you consider drawing a back-side?

The only trouble with doing art for the front and the back of minis is that it essentially doubles the art workload, and in a pain-in-the-butt way (getting the fronts and backs to match up exactly can be... troublesome). It's something I've considered, and when/if I get a tablet, it might become more feasible. For now, though, I'm hoping to go for the next-best thing, which is the profile-view art (or at the very least, a 3/4 view with a decipherable facing). I'll talk to the other artists about making less forward facing guys to make the job a bit easier.

It's not a perfect solution by any means, but it's what's possible for us at this time. If some of the minis are causing a problem and you're using facing rules, I'd say make a mark on the base to denote where "forward" is. Again, not perfect, but it should hopefully work for you until we're able to make double-siders.

Believe me when I say that two-sided minis are on my future wishlist, and if I do 3-D minis they'll definitely be part of the set (I'm working out the basic concepts for turning my to-scale rune giant minis into a fully 3-D downloadable kit in the back of my head, and I hope to have more monsters like him available some day, since the 3-D guys are just cool).

Oh, I agree. That's the plan with the mirrored double-siders that we've got available at the moment (I love it so much that I've been re-doing my player's minis because the mirrored double-siders are so cool, and they make for better mid-combat pictures. :P )

One comment (for all the paper mini sets, really). It would be helpful if the figures were labeled in some way with the names of the NPC's and monsters. I know I can figure it out myself, but it would just be more convenient if they were given some off-figure labels so that I could go. Okay, that's a Pugwampi, that's so-and-so, etc.

I really like the idea of having all of the miniatures you'd need for an adventure path available in an accessory supplement like this. It will really add a lot of flavor to the game. I encourage Paizo to expand this accessory so that every adventure path volume has a set of paper miniatures that can be purchased separately.

...and even better, printable maps and terrain for the AP!!!

Thanks!

I spent part of my day off working on these minis. So much fun. Between this and World works games, I'm getting pretty good at paper crafting, something I never thought I'd say.

How about a simple "Black Sihouette" image for the reverse side. Several of the other paper minis that I get use this method. (Just a reverse Image of the front, all black...)

And any chance that the paper minis youmake for character will ever be available (we could use a good PC paper minis set and the ones you've done for Deviant Art look Awesome...and you already have them done!)

The update is awesome, but doesn't it kind of negate the need for a separate Caravan mini pack?

It had been a while since I looked at them, so I forgot Crystal did the other set. I don't mind having different versions of the 'same' character, as I can re-use some as other NPCs or whatnot.

Do you have a link to your side biz minis? I may have them all, having been a patron for a lot of Open Design and Rite Publishing projects, I may have most of them already. Just wondering if there are any I've missed.
