Well, the director who has contacted us might try that, but my character won't accept it. I'll probably be backstage helping with the special effects.

and truth be told, I am going to ask GM if he would at least entertain the submission of a Sprite ... who, as a shapechanger, could be any mascot we wanted ;)

Basically he's a little guy who wants to be BIG

Like a big bathing sponge?

I was going to type something innappropriate, but we haven't had the session zero boundaries discussion yet ...

YES, just like a big bathing sponge!

I wanted to be in the queue at least.
I will finish my character in Pathbuilder

DM, are you allowing Legacy races or only what has been remastered?
Also, will you consider Rare Ancestry/Background, or do we have a quota of Rare & Uncommon selections?

Thank you all very much, as of midnight, submissions closed.

@Lucendar/Kazul the Bear: I am sorry, but this thread clarified a few times Magus was not an available class. I will therefore not be considering your submission.

@Zephyr Amir: I received your message that you were (re)building the character, but the character sheet on your alias is still not complete and I cannot find a link to it. Unless I've simply missed something (please let me know), we have now passed the submission deadline, so I am going to have to consider the application incomplete. I'm very sorry.

EVERYONE: Thank you, all of you, for showing up, engaging with discussing concepts and setting, and working very hard on submissions. I know building a 17th level character is no small task and I'm honestly, pleasantly surprised at how many submitted characters or even showed interest.

I know most GMs say this during PBP recruitments, but submissions are high quality and narrowing down will be very difficult. Thank you for making it hard for me in the best way possible. :) Please rest assured that even if I do not select you, I appreciate your hard work in preparing your application.

Here is the list of submissions as I have them. Please let me know if you spot an error or omission:

JohnGs -- Clarisa Blackwater, LN human fighter 17 Further build deets
Violant -- Krowys the Translator, LN Aphorite Pact Witch of Axis
Djack Nymball -- Thom Walker, Human Ranger 6/unRogue 1/Horizon Walker 10
andreww -- Mira the Obscure, N Human Wildblooded Sorcerer

At this point, I am grateful for the opportunity to have built him at all, many many thanks GM. I hope that everyone has a fantastic holiday!

Interest/Concepts
Djack Nymbal -- Brawler/unRogue
Andostre -- Gnome Barbarian (possibly very tall)
Lucian C. -- Rae Lighttouch, Druid/Wizard/Mystic Theurge
Monkeygod -- not sure yet
Violant -- Aphorite Pact Witch of Axis
Lucendar -- Some type of Melee Build
Ouachitonian -- Something gishy, like Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple, Vivisectionist/Master Chymist, or Warpriest
SuperTumbler -- ??/Mammoth Rider
Zephyr Amir -- "Sky Druid," possibly Druid/Storm Kindler (and because I forgot to answer: Mind Sword is not from an available source)

Did I miss anyone?

Sky Druid is the most solid of the 2: the sylph progression allows him to access a native ability to Plane Shift which seems themeatically appropriate.

Wow, maybe it's time to actually play my Sky Druid concept.
Storm Kindler is from an advanced guide, would that be allowed?
(It is tied directly to Gozreh so I'm not sure)

What about Mind Sword (a paladin archetype)?

The book floated gently to the floor as the Zhyen flew over to rouse his master; they had gotten home not all that long ago, but he knew that Jyn was tired from flying around Katapesh all night.

He shoved Jyn's shoulder while very quietly whispering, "Master! Master! Wake!! There is something on the roof!"

A burst of aether blew the bedding off the bed as Jyn awoke with quite a start; something was very wrong. "Lead, I will fly after you. Out the window, they won't expect us from the outside of the manor."

They quietly flew out the open window, and up above the roofline to see what was causing the noise Zeph had heard.

Salim Myr wrote:

Salim had entered the party in relatively simple clothes, a flowing robe of brown with a green head wrap to keep sweat and dirt away from his face. A slight shimmer of his cloak gives away its magic and on his head barely visible is a headband, with tunic symbols. Not enough to be readable but enough to tell it’s no mere ornament. However despite all this all he carries with him is a small dagger on his hip and a small stick sheathed as well, almost out of place compared to others that are more armored and armed.

He quietly follows the large Goliath into the library, wondering to himself what exactly he is getting into with this. As he slips in he can’t but help to mutter as the doors are magically sealed. “Oh all of us locked in here, that’s slightly concerning. Why all the precautions?” Just before Alexandria appears at the mantle, “What an ostentatious arrival.. he says backing up slightly.

Zephyr floats over to where Salim is, smiling, "I really think that has something to do with the plane-touched here ... but do let me know if my master upstages Lady Alex? Jyn can be very very competative."

Abyssal not Infernal. Just splitting hairs there.

As everyone that enters the library finds a seat you can see the doors start to become sealed as magic washes over them. The guard outside calls out loud, "Last call for the meeting of Fame and Wealth." Another minute passes then he closes the door. The last door is then sealed.

The fireplace's fire roars with a blast of heat into the room. Flames licking up past the mantle. Then almost as sudden the flames retreat leaving behind a cloud of black smoke. The smoke quickly dissipates revealing a tall female figure. Before the smoke mostly dissipates Alexandria steps forward.

The little genie slipped past the guard like a wisp of cloud. He backs away from the fireplace as it roars ... it was important that an Air Zhyen not get caught off guard while on a service mission.

There is a special material that was introduced in Adventurer's Armory 2 called Sunsilver.

(For example, a scimitar or breastplate can be made of sunsilver, while a quarterstaff or hide armor cannot.) In addition, items made of sunsilver are immune to rust effects (such as rusting grasp). While in an area of bright light, a shield or suit of armor made of sunsilver shines brightly, allowing the wearer to reflect light at nearby foes as a move action. When she does so, creatures adjacent to the wearer must succeed at a DC 12 Fortitude save or be dazzled for 1 round.

Armor and weapons made of sunsilver are always masterwork. To determine the price of a sunsilver item, add 25 gp per pound to the price of a masterwork version of that item. Sunsilver has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 8.

Obviously the Golarion-focused lore elements are subject to overhaul, and the abilities could also be changed, but I just wanted to offer an initial precedented option. (It's also very silly to mention that silver doesn't rust since it isn't ferrous, but eh.) This could have been a material (or process) that he was working on due to a potential flaw in the silver golems that Light was sending to the warfront, something unrelated to the eventual corruption.

(Maybe there was something going on with tarnishing, or a weakness discovered while they were in the heat of battle. Silver has a melting point of 1,763°F/961.8°C, so it's probably not at major risk of melting outside of insanely extreme...

He's also about to go on a diet ...

"Doesn't seem like too much of an athlete either"

"Hi, my name is Zephyr. How many gold pieces will it cost me to have my mouth wired shut so that I don't eat anymore and no one (else) will call me fat!?"

Huzzah for sylph goodness!

---

I'll work with Fluid and Zephyr on some potential backstory linkages as well! Fluid and I could have worked together on the armor, working hard to build trust despite their divergent backgrounds and beliefs. If Zephyr is from Light, he might not be an intellectual with the Int of 12. Doesn't seem like too much of an athlete either with the highest physical stat at 12. What is Zephyr's story?[/ooc]...

Zephyr's story could best be titled, The Passion of the Sky and while it's unlikely to be produced by Mel Gibson, it's a good story.

Zeph doesn't believe Fallen Sky is dead.

He believes the god of sylphs is disappointed, and withdrew himself until such a time as his children come through their identity crisis and own their power.
The power to connect everything.

Sky is the only element that can touch everything else. Sky sits above each element, and where the other 3 all consume each other, sky does not.
Zephyr is passionate, and while maybe not a zealot per se, he sees the ability of his people to be above everything, and understands that Fallen Sky might be ashamed of their laziness. Zephyr worked HARD to kindle his SkySoul and maintain a constant connection to the Plane of Air. He knows that if all of his people did the same, Fallen Sky would return to them, proud that they had freed themselves to once again soar above the Island.

Zephyr profoundly believes the answer is joy. Even with the backdrop of war looming over everything, he knows that those who fly will always be free. He hopes he can remind as many of his people as possible to reach for the Sky.

and tbh, druids without focus bug me too

zephyr amir, since I'm allowing a fair amount of craziness with the other potential PCs here, I wanted to reconsider your previous suggestion.

Druids bug me a bit because there are so many moving pieces. How about a compromise?

Modifying the "Sky Druid" archetype:

--->Let's make your animal companion awesome (like a hunter's)
---->Let's making your flying wild shape awesome (like a shifter?)

And let's lose spellcasting, just to simplify things. I think you would also gain some lightning-themed druid spells 1/day as you level, just not full spellcasting.

Thoughts?

This is some serious goodness. Let's call a thing a thing, Zeph wants a 2X Fly Speed (LVL13). He will pay the feat progression for Wings of Air, AND we could also just trade the spellcasting for the additional 6 hours he would need to always be Wild Shaped (and we could count up the levels lost and replace those with additional Breeze-Kissed & Wind Blast usage). If he can have the Small Elemental as his familiar, he's basically perfect ...

Well I think the 4 of you should all chat.
Essri & Ryu, thank you for coming to the server, I appreciate it.

As a player, I am content to play here, and let's remember, that's how this started. I wanted to PLAY this AP. As a GM though, I never wanted to GM here, and I want to GM here far far far far less now than I did before.

I had to beg for customer service to give me the game. I had to remind them. Even so, I still cannot do anything I want here. I still cannot have the quality I want. So yeah, I get it, Discord is different, but it's a good different, with me especially. I just don't think that I should have to jump through all the hoops this takes, which do not make it more fun, only to find that at 2am when I want to connect, oh wait Paizo isn't working ... again.

Guys, it's just Fists. There is a Fists campaign starting every 3-4 weeks. Some of you have done it, some of you are in them, and tbh, that has been part of my issue too; how to make this unique and special when the are no less than 5 of them happening right now right here.

I will not be butt hurt or feel maligned if anyone cannot handle an off-Paizo campaign. Let me know what you decide.

Essri wrote:
I haven't tried doing a PbP over Discord, but I could live with it. I do worry it might be harder to keep things organized/legible (since dice rolling bots tend to clutter up the channel they're in).

LOL I tend to be pretty organized ;)

I have a #dice chanell for rolls, and then ask players to cite their rolls in #gameplay (because yeah, I don't want to see command lines and dice posts either)

Here is what my Dead Sun's server looks like:
DEAD SUNS

Certainly my pleasure; nice to read :)

The only total NO to Dicord was Brainiac, correct?
The Dead Suns campaign I run is there, the new Wrath Capaign I am starting will be there, and I would really like this group to be there too. But I will defer in this case ...

Discord was really just a suggestion because it doesn't have platform issues all the time. No worries.

I placed Aaryn, I think we are ready.
The crowd is ready ...

I apologize for leaving you hanging as well.
Technical issues not withstanding (really hating on Paizo.com right now)

Please post or DM when you are ready?

I would also like to hear opinions on moving to Discord.
(I'm GMing Starfinder there and enjoying it more than here)

Please take care, and lmk.

Thanks!

For making the map the background: I actually just went ahead and did it for you here, but here's the process:

1) Click Slide
2) Edit Theme
3) A theme and a bunch of different layouts will appear; scroll all the way to the bottom for the Tactical Map layout
4) Paste any map you want in here
5) Once you have the map you want, go to the slide where we'll actually be playing.
6) Click Slide Again
7) Click Apply Layout
8) Select the Tactical Map Layout

Voila, you have a map that people can move their tokens around on without accidentally moving the map.

THANK YOU!

Yes, that is Zephyr in the corner :)

and

Yay @ the snipping thing!!!!!

I would totally accept help making a map at this point.
Clearly I am too stupid to figure out how to crop from the PDF

(although now that I said, that, I guess I could screen shot it and paste it into Paint)

Give me a minute.

But I would like to hear the "right way" to do it from anyone who wants to tell me.

I will have it for you guys this weekend.

The gift Ryu received really is one of a kind:
RING OF THE WEARY STALWART

This ring combines the effects of the Ring of the Weary Traveler AND the effects of the Stalwart's Ring

The ring is fully active now: track your 5 temporary HP please

Team Alternate:
Zephyr amir

an obscure part of the Tournament Rules allow for teams to have an alternate. They do not allow for more than 4 opponents to enter a match, but the alternate can solicit, the alternate can heal, the alternate can "combat" the environment on Bonmu, and in many ways allows a team to continue even if someone were to be incapacitated or killed in the course of the competition. It is not a concession or special case, other teams could have one as well. One team does ...

Initiative:

The team was given an enormous time to strategize: you will use that.
(I hope)

The rolls will be presented as follows:
STRONG JAW
ESSRI
TINO 1
TINO 2
RYU
TINO 3
TINO 4
AARYN
This is so that you will make decisions based on strategy, not on preventable meta-awareness due to gaming mechanics. If you're going for the strongest, go for it, because they're strongest, not because they're first. If you want to eliminate the casters, do it when YOU want, not when you think the dice have allowed for it.

Essri wrote:

Can't actually do anything that specific, unfortunately. We'd have to operate the spoilers on the honor system.

The primary way that the subclass uses Stealth is to become Hidden or Undetected to enemies. Usually, this just means they're flat-footed to my first attack from hiding, but it also has interactions with the Vital Shot and Ghost Shot abilities.

I won't have Ghost Shot until later, but I do have Vital Shot now. If I hit a flat-footed target with it, the attack deals an extra weapon damage die and they take 2d6 persistent bleed (3d6 at level 15).

There's other ways to inflict the flat-footed condition on someone, but Stealth is the easiest one for me. I can still use the ability even if they're not actually flat-footed, so knowing whether they're flat-footed to me or not mostly just tells me if I should roll the extra damage separately or include it in the total.

I seriously appreciate you bringing it up though, and I have just done a massive amount of reading about it. Yeah, it matters, especially given the progression in this AP: you will be 15th by the end of the frist module, and that 3d6 is a big deal. You need to be able to create the FF as often as you can.

LOL I guess we should have the hide-in-plain-sight discussion ...

Essri wrote:

Essri prepares this spell every day

GM, question: my gunslinger subclass is very, very reliant on Stealth checks. Do you want me to roll them in the open, roll them in a spoiler (that only you can open), or do you want to roll them after I tell you the modifier?

I would love to know how to create user-limited spoilers for sure.

Let's do them that way for now, and I will also committ to reading about the class some more.

Okay ... please set your buffs and discuss tactics, either in or out of character. I will have a Rules of the Island post for you today, I will have notes on Ryushi's ring today, and I will explain how Zephyr will work as an APC later today as well.

and yes, I think I either invented or at least branded this concept: we have player characters, we have non-player characters, and I finally came up with what Zephyr is - an All-Player Character.

OH

Did you pick a trait that connected you to the Tournament Essri?
I can go take a look in a bit, but I didn't recall.
I just want to make sure that comes to light as we move forward.

I think it's brilliant that in all this time we have NEVER had a discussion of who "the leader" is ... and the little kobald shows up and decides it's the goblin. You can't make this stuff up. (I mean, we are, but yeah)
