I added an example of a previous exploit to Mira's profile.

@Djack Nymball and Monkeygod: No. No custom items. No homemade spells in a can. No combined items. Existing items in allowed sources only please. You want a spell cast on you, your options are potions, scrolls, oils, any existing magic items that do that, and, most importantly, your fellow party members who are there to buff and support you.

Let's keep it simple, folks, and remember you're working with a team.

This is the last day, applicants! Please submit your final sheets by midnight, U.S. East Coast Time.

Well that's super unfortunate, as that removes a lot of the fun, interesting items that aren't stat boosters. Which, you kinda have to have at this level, because the game was designed with those bonuses in mind when it comes to the CR of encounters. "

I totally get what you're saying about us working as a team and potions, scrolls, oils, etc as our options for getting spells cast on us,

But I was looking to also combine a Belt of Security with a Belt of Dex, cuz the former is rather thematically fitting for my concept.

That's where the no combining items really hurts. We're forced to choose between items we must have to be a functional character, and ones that are unique and flavorful for *who* we are playing.

Anyways, super bummed, but it's not that important. Just one of those usual things that's allowed(by the core rulebook) at high levels.

Hi, I am building a halfling Lore oracle/loremaster with the deaf curse. Does your world have sign language that I can pick up with a rank in Linguistics, or can I learn to read lips somehow? I was planning on taking Leadership and having a telepathic cohort who could pass along the conversations around me, but I don't think I can finish building the cohort before the deadline, so I am looking for other means to facilitate communicating with the party.

Yes. Vinnick is NN/True Neutral, with a slight tendency towards good. Anything in the profile related to the character's crunch should be ignored atm. I was going to update it if selected, but I can update it prior if you would like.

Nah, you can leave it, I wasn't sure if the profile was supposed to match; if I should just look at the Mythweavers sheet that's all I need to know.

I think assuming some kind of sign language exists in the world is safe, probably developed and taught by Aurit. You could also spend a point of Linguistics to learn to read lips.

About 6 and a half hours to go!

Are characters locked in, or can we tweak (not overhaul) gear after acceptance?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Folks admitted to the game can certainly tweak their character sheets afterward, both to adjust gear and adapt to the particular combination of PCs that come together (or correct any mistakes, as can occasionally happen).

Once the story begins, early in the adventure there will also be a brief but clearly pointed out opportunity to purchase from a (limited) city store inventory in case it occurs to someone they might need a very particular thing that they had not yet purchased.

I've updated vinnick's background a bit with what we discussed.

Haven't really had a chance to finish him off but the basics are there: stats, main gear, feats skills. Still needs some gear and formula and more background. If it's not enough I under stand, but here is Lazur Anil

It's The Final Countdown.

Here is my last minute submission - a magus who can buff and attack with sword or magic.

Awesome all, glad to see everything come in. Submissions close in one hour! Will post the final list of complete applications in the morning.

I've more or less finished up my statblock, but I'm not gonna be able to write up too much of a backstory before the midnight deadline. The last several days(since mid last week, really) most of my free time has been spent helping my mom get our house ready for both Thanksgiving, and a special open house style party this Sat to celebrate my Grammy turning 100 on Dec 3rd!!

I'll do my best to cobble together some important bullet points:

Knox was born among the Skarrin States, to a fisherman father, and mother who practised herbalogy. He heard the calling of Lees when he turned fourteen. While he worships and draws his power from the Shadow Master, he also pays homage and respect to Varan the Wanderer.

Joined an adventuring guild a year or so later, and on one of his first missions, infiltrated a smuggling ring. Turns out they were involved in humanoid trafficking. Upon freeing all of the captive slaves, he took up the cause of freedom fighter, swearing to never allow any sentient being to be owned by another.

Met, fell in love with, and eventually married an elf by the name of Morriana from Greengate. Morri, as she's affectionately called, is a witch of Tira, and as such the couple has gone on many a crusade against both the undead and aberrant creatures.

They have a home in Haven, but also spend a lo of their time aboard Knox's ship, the Windrunner. He leads a small fleet of good-natured pirates who also seek to end slavery and humanoid trafficking.

Finally, Knox is a high-ranking(or maybe leader?) member of one of the main adventuring guilds based in Haven. It also doubles as a begin thieves' guild, whose members aid those down on their luck or in need of help but can't afford legal aid.

Bruwyn, Seer of Aurit is mostly complete; I leave it to you to figure out if he is complete enough. I wish I had joined the forum earlier so I could have had more time to work.

Ack, I was in such a rush to get my PC posted by the deadline, I forgot a rather important part:

I will do my utmost best to meet the posting commitments, and will make sure I give a proper heads up if I can't(barring any emergencies).

I have run or played something like 10 APs to completion. Not once have combined items been allowed by the GM. Not once have we failed. I think the CR ratings will be just fine without needing this sort of thing. Heck some of the APs didn't even have crafting, and we got by.

Thank you all very much, as of midnight, submissions closed.

@Lucendar/Kazul the Bear: I am sorry, but this thread clarified a few times Magus was not an available class. I will therefore not be considering your submission.

@Zephyr Amir: I received your message that you were (re)building the character, but the character sheet on your alias is still not complete and I cannot find a link to it. Unless I've simply missed something (please let me know), we have now passed the submission deadline, so I am going to have to consider the application incomplete. I'm very sorry.

EVERYONE: Thank you, all of you, for showing up, engaging with discussing concepts and setting, and working very hard on submissions. I know building a 17th level character is no small task and I'm honestly, pleasantly surprised at how many submitted characters or even showed interest.

I know most GMs say this during PBP recruitments, but submissions are high quality and narrowing down will be very difficult. Thank you for making it hard for me in the best way possible. :) Please rest assured that even if I do not select you, I appreciate your hard work in preparing your application.

Here is the list of submissions as I have them. Please let me know if you spot an error or omission:

At this point, I am grateful for the opportunity to have built him at all, many many thanks GM. I hope that everyone has a fantastic holiday!

Just a quick update: I am doing some final review and hope to announce the player group by tomorrow night (so you don't have to wait so long!). Please stay tuned!

Scarab Sages

Woot!

Reviewing 17th level characters is a chore.

Oh yeah, I don't envy you at all in that regard

Tum-da-da-dum!!!

Would the following five players please report to the discussion thread:

Violant: Krowys the Translator, LN Aphorite Pact Witch of Axis 17
Trawets: Lazur Anil, NG Human Empiricist Investigator 17
Stormraven: Ariston, CG Aasimar Cleric of Varan 17
andreww: Mira the Obscure, N Human Wildblooded Sorcerer 17
Kazmanaught: Trer, CG half-elf invulnerable rager barbarian 17

For everyone not listed: making this decision was difficult, and again I thank all of you for putting a lot of thought, time, and energy into your applications. There are a lot of folks I would have liked to have included in an ideal world. If any of you are willing to be on a backup list in case unfortunate circumstances lead to me needing more players, please let me know. I will reach out to you.

Good luck to all of you and happy gaming!

Thanks for the opportunity! Have fun, everyone :)

Scarab Sages

Please keep me as an alternate.

Enjoy all.

Dark Archive

Congrats to everybody that got in!

But hey, if you ever need a filler in the future, feel free to keep Mieosa in your Rolodex and hit me up when the time comes.

Thanks Rosc!
